As others have stated, if the head of the shredder doesn't line up just right with the basket, the shredder doesn't work. I have talked with Fellowes about this problem with the first W11C shredder I purchased. I was advised to flip the switch to R, take the head off, and use a pencil to hold down the switch on the under side of the head. I did all this and the shredder blades moved, telling me that the motor still worked. However, when I put the head back on the basket (carefully placing the right side of the on top of the basket first - right side is where the switch is located that triggers the motor) and tried to run the shredder (I or R), NOTHING HAPPENED! I am on my second W11C and have the same problem. Conclusion: poor design. This piece of equipment is too temperamental and unreliable to be of use in my home office. I will look at other brands and particularly for one with a different design. Don't waste your time on this piece of junk.
