Farberware 4 Liter Dual Deep Fryer
I like the ideas behind the Farberware 4 Liter Dual Deep Fryer. I do not like the magnetic plug. It is a hassle & in my attempts to get the darn thing to stay on I become frustrated. I know it was done for a safety upgrade, but there are other more serious issue with the unit than a clumsy fryer cook tripping over a cord & spilling hot oil over everything. The basic fryer has many good points & a few bad. Lets cover the bad points first. The entire unit breaks completely apart for cleaning. This is a big plus. However I want to point out the flimsy & bottomless outside stainless steel frame. The only real support the frame has is the removable inside oil tub. I really do feel if they would have had a bottom on the frame, it would be less flimsy & more stout. It is very important when you put this back together that you would double insure that the inside tub is seated correctly, as that is the only support holding the whole unit together. When the tub is not properly seated, it actually as an opportunity to fall right thru the bottom of the bottomless frame. Just image the disaster of somebody moving the fryer in the middle of a fry & having the tub drop thru the bottom. Double check the alignment & make sure the tub is properly seated on the frame prior to frying & once you start frying, I would not move the fryer until after the oil cools down. Keep plenty of paper towel with in hands reach to wipe the condensation off inside of the lid. Each time you open the fryer you will need to do this as condensation builds up quickly, & it's going to be hot. The whole unit gets very hot during the frying process as this unit has only air for insulation between the frying tub & the stainless steel frame. If you touch any part of the fryer other than the handles, you are going to get burned as it is very hot. Think about it as a stainless steel pan on the stove. If you need to touch use the handles & wear cooking mitts. The 2nd issue was the magnetic plug. It is going to be tough to keep the plug plugged into the back of the fryer. The weight of the plug by itself is enough to cause the plug to fall off the back of the fryer. Once you set it up do not move the unit, because the plug will fall right off. Also make sure you set the fryer up so you have easy access to the plug, as it is going to fall off during the frying operations, & you are going to have to plug it back in. Now for the good points of the fryer. I do like the fact of the complete breakdown of the unit for cleaning purposes. Also for repair of unit as you could easily replace a part vs waiting for a whole new unit to arrive. The lid is also some what flimsy but in does set down correctly on the frame, & has a nice site glass to watch the frying. I love the 3 baskets. The handles are removable & are not dishwasher safe. You can put the baskets & the tub (after you remove the heating element) in the dishwasher & hand was & wipe the rest. You will have to use care, grace, & caution when using this fryer, but with a little oversight, it should give you a great deep-frying experience.

Nice for the Price
...but I live in an apartment with a smaller kitchen so counter space is always challenging. I like that it was large enough to do the amount of food I needed too. I didn't like that it didn't have the "cool to touch", as I have younger family that will use it too. Overall, good product though.

Great fryer

There are 5 people in my family and we are always on the move so I was looking for something that would cook up quick meals. We used to fry in the kitchen, but I HATE the smell of the frying oil in the house. We got this frying to be able to plug in outside and needed something big enough to feed 5 people. This fryer is great. Large basket does hold quite a bit although we do have to fry multiple times, but fryer is quick, heats up quick, and stays heated to the temp you set. Food comes out crisp, yet not greasy. I think that is due to the steady heat so food cooks quickly and doesn't absorb much oil. So far it has been very hardy although it doesn't look so. My husband wants to fry every day now. He even experimented with fried hot dogs on a stick. They came out great. Hopefully this will last us for some time as it really is a handy machine to have.

Fast cooking and easy clean up

My only regret about this product is that it does not go up to 400 or 425 degrees, which would help the food to absorb less oil. With health concerns and the price of peanut oil these days that would be a plus. The fryer cooks very quickly, which makes it possible to precook foods at 300 degrees and then finish them off later at the highest temperature for a wonderful crisp on the outside and just-cooked on the inside presentation. I get the impression that the food fried with this product is healthier and absorbs less oil than the stovetop method I was using before. Three baskets included with the product are a plus and the unit is easy to disassemble and clean, especially when compared to the stovetop method. The price is right and the product is well made. I highly recommend it.

Great Fryer with 2 year Warranty!

I just received this fryer as a Mother's Day gift from my daughter, who owns the 2 Liter Farberware. I have not owned a fryer in many years and had been using skillets and pots to fry. When she reminded me about her fryer, I realized I was missing out and doing things the hard way. I like to eat healthy and grill a lot, but my family absolutely loved the fried chicken wings and shrimp I cooked. Since this fryer heats up to a high temperature, (I ignore the recommended settings per food item) and use the highest heat setting to get less greasy, delicious food. Just watch to avoid burning. Highly recommend, for a change from grilling. You will enjoy the quality.

great unit for the home

Hi, this unit is great. i had a different make that i won in a contest at work and this unit was a HIGH end piece that i couldn't ever afford to buy, and i thought i would never find something i felt i could afford to purchase. this unit fit the bill, the price was great, the unit works fantastic, it heats up quick, it maintains it temp. well, clean up is a breeze, sure do hope it lasts as long as the other one did, so far, do not worry about buying this unit, it is the biggest bang for the buck.

1. Yes you must use the baskets or your food will stick to the heating elements
by fryingaway
2. I would think you would need to use the basket as the heating element sits on the bottom of the unit.
by Hersheykiss
3. This is designed to be used with the basket.
by CommunityAnswer
4. You must use the baskets
by usry28
5. I would not advise using any fryer that has in-oil elements without the baskets. There are 2 probes attached to the element that, if damaged, could cause failure of the unit. 1 probe is for the thermostat and the other is for the high limit safety thermostat. The basket would ensure that these probes would not accidently get snagged and damaged.
by DaOutlaw
6. I believe the basket is there for a purpose, if not than why not just use an ordinary large pot. The basket keeps the food from touching the bottom and therefore less likely to burn meat, and the meat or whatever, cooks with a more even tone, plus it's easier to lift out and drain oil.
