    instant display.......
This "Innova" battery monitor is a quick way to check your "battery voltage" and "alternator voltage" all in one package. Before starting your car (when the car is not running), this monitor easily plugs in to your cigarette lighter, and you get an instance display of your car battery voltage. As you see in my picture, it show's 12.70 and a "green" light, indicating "full voltage". "Yellow" light would indicate "low voltage" between 12.1 to 12.4 volt's in your battery, and "Red" would indicate, get help quick before you drain your battery and "time to locate the problem". Then while the engine is running/driving you will see the "voltage display" spike in voltage (13.3/14.4)green light, indicating " your alternator is working ", anything below 13.1 yellow light and a big red light 12.6 you might need to check your alternator or just use the helpful quick tip's included in package, to locate your problem. Great battery monitor to have onhand and can be used/switch from car to car to check your charging situation, in any vehicle. with a cigarette lighter. This would make a great gift, for the car gadget's person.

An inexpensive way to monitor my RV batteries , very accurate when i compare volts with my Zamp portable 180W panels. While i am using power inside i can see dips in the monitor keeping my usage in check

My volt meter in my 03 Silverado 1500 HD quit working about two years ago, I checked battery and alternator voltage peoridocally with my multimeter, but it was unerving to be miles from home and not have constant monitoring as I pull a 25' fith wheel camper, now in excess of 90,ooo miles across the US and Canada. (yes ninty housand) tip-use 3rd gear not drive. I was doing a intrnet search lookind for a better way than replacing the instrument cluster, when I saw this device which plugs in the lighter receptical, reading the instructions, specifications and reviews, this shoud work great. and it does, very happy with this product. ordered on line from Wallmart, it arrived at my local store in bout one week.

    Exactly What I Needed

    Verified purchase

My Hyundai Genesis was giving intermittent "Battery Discharge Warning" error messages. The car does not have a volt meter & the dealer said everything tested fine. So I purchased the Equus Innova 3721 volt meter & plugged it into one of my power ports. It didn't take long for this little device to pinpoint that the Genesis charging system does not charge based on electrical load but rather on operating settings. So far the only times I have observed it charging are when the headlights are on or if the headlights are off, when the car is coasting with a closed throttle at speeds greater than 5 mph. So now I burn the headlights on all the time, the system charges all the time, & I have not seen any more error messages. The volt meter was well worth the $10 it cost.

    Super Value and Accurate

    Verified purchase

Bought for its two decimal readout and adjustable head. When I checked its accuracy against a $150 Fluke DIgital Multimeter, the Equus voltage was within 0.02 volts. Wow! Exceeded my expectations, and at $13 it is a great value. Every RV or Boat should have one as a primary or secondary battery monitor.

    1. Not directly. But if you have a power drain, your battery voltage will fall over time when the engine is not running. This device will let you observe the voltage and determine if it is falling. Basically, if your car can sit overnight or for a couple of days and the device is still indicating a full battery, you probably do not have a significant drain.

    2. I believe it would because it will display a decrease in the available voltage.

    3. Yes, by monitoring the voltage over time you would see a voltage drop. This monitors voltage to .00 volts so a drain will so up almost immediately. You will need to wait for 10 to 20 minutes with the battery at rest before testing.

    5. Sorry for the delay in giving an answer to you and hope you have (by now) found your problem. BUT, if not... to locate battery drain it is better to use an inline amp meter to check for what are called "phantom loads". These can be as simple as the radio memory or clock circuits and as complex as a stuck relay or a wire that has pinched and is bleeding to ground (hopefully not the latter as they are usually difficult to find). Anyway once you have a reading on you amp meter you can then selectively disconnect items to see if the draw diminishes or disappears - do this by fuse pulling or physical wire disconnection (hopefully through plug connector or spade terminals). GOOD LUCK !!

    6. No. This is a volt meter, and will only read the voltage present from the battery and/or the charging system. To detect excessive power drain, you will need to use an ampere meter to read current draw.

    7. I agree with those who answered "yes, but not directly". And probably not right away. Depending on the current draw of whatever is draining your battery, it could take from a few minutes to a few days for it to show up. But, if there is a drain of any significance, it will show up in the form of reduced battery voltage over time. Note: that test must be done when the engine is not running. If you start the engine, even briefly, the alternator will at least partially recharge the battery and you will not get an accurate reading. I used a similar battery/charging system tester to help determine that my mother in law had a slow drain on her battery that was causing the voltage to drop significantly when the car sat for 2 or 3 days. The problem turned out to be the glove compartment light that was not turning off.

    8. All this battery monitor does is measure and display the voltage. It does it three ways: with a digital readout, "idiot" lights, and a voltage indicator. All batteries lose voltage over time, but a significant loss of voltage could be indicated by regular monitoring of the system voltage.

    9. Well sort of. If you become familiar with the normal voltage drop with engine off. you can notice a draw when you step on brake or leave headlights on. There are better methods and tools to find a parasitic power draw. In a pinch it could be done.

    1. With the engine running, the charge indicator indicates alternator output voltage, not battery voltage. That is why you are reading 14 volts or more. The graph in the middle of the range means not too low, not too high. With the engine off, battery voltage is being read and a reading of 12.6 volts should show a full or nearly full battery on the graph, which is good. (See the package illustration.)

    2. I think it could be the alternator, just check it, u don't have anything to loose.

    3. If your reading was 14 Volts, then the battery monitor should have had displayed a small circle with arrow icon showing above the voltage reading. This indicates it is in Charge mode and the indicator on the right side of the screen has nothing to do with the battery. If you were to turn the car engine off and then turn the ignition to the on position (but not starting the car), then you would see a little battery icon showing above the voltage read-out, and your voltage would likely show 12.6 or so volts. Now the indicator on the right would help you "see" the state of your battery's charge.

    4. With the engine on you are reading the alternator voltage. If you want to test battery voltage turn the engine off. The half way point means not too high and not too low.

    1. I believe that the battery symbol indicates that battery voltage is being read with the engine off, and the circle with arrows indicates that the engine is running and the alternator voltage is being read.
    by Doneright
    Helpful?
    2. This has two modes. One mode is active when the engine is running and it is testing your alternator output. That is indicated by the symbol with two arrows. The other mode is active when your engine is stopped and it is testing the voltage of your battery. That is indicated by the battery symbol. It switches automatically between modes. Note that some cars have an alternator that drops its output at times to save gasoline. This device will give you a red warning light at those times and you might think your alternator is failing. Turn on your ventilation fan and you will see the alternator output return to normal.

    3. The meter has two modes for the colored lights at the bottom: one for battery voltage and one for charging voltage. The circle with arrows shows when the meter is in "Charging" mode. The image of the batteries shows when the meter is in Battery mode. Green light shines in Charge mode between 13.3 & 14.4 volts. Green light shines in Battery mode at 12.6 volts and over.
    by b6fischer

    4. The battery means voltage with engine off, so you can tell if the battery is charged up. The circle denotes voltage with engine on, so you can gauge alternator health.
