I'm not sure if Zinc actually keeps you from getting a cold or not, maybe it's just luck. My kids have brought home a few colds this year and as soon as they started, I started taking these. The one cold I got, lasted one day and wasn't nearly as bad as other colds that I've had for a few days with lingering affects for weeks. The flavor is pleasant and the cost is so much cheaper than the name brand. If I start to feel a cold coming on, I pop one of these every 3-4 hours. Not sure if they work, but so far so good.

    • A. Actually, Craigerama, it's more complex than that. The label on the Equate box actually does NOT list an actual amount. The reason is that both products are categorized as "homeopathic," and therefore fall into a special (and extremely unethical) branch of woo that is able to skirt around FDA regulations. Both labels say that the products contain "Zincum Glucconium 2x." Which, you might notice, is not an amount. That "2x" means that the active ingredient has been "diluted" two times. Usually, that means a solution is created, and then almost all of it is poured out. And, then the container is refilled with water. In these products, this is done twice. This operates on the unbelievably ridiculous notion that water molecules have memories, and that medicine can be created by teaching water molecules to fight against toxins through this process of dilution (yes, homeopaths actually believe this). Cold Eeze claims that despite this dilution process, their product still contains ~13.3mg of zinc. However, as a homeopathic remedy, I don't believe the FDA checks. At most, I suppose they could be sued for false advertising if the amount is found to be significantly different. The Equate brand product makes no such claim, and so the answer to the question above is "There's no way to know." It could actually be 0mg.

    • A. 13.3 mg, same as the nationally advertised brand name Cold-E*** but it's about half the price. For the record, I was just shopping @ Walmart and read the labels of both products to get this info, you could do the same in the future :-)
