Do NOT buy these batteries!

These batteries are basically AA batteries inside a D casing. It's not even about how long they last, they just don't have enough juice. My new elliptical trainer needed 4 D batteries, I bought the charger and 4 of these. After installing them, the console wouldn't turn on at all. I charged them for 24 hours... nothing. I went and bought 4 alkaline batteries and now it worked just fine, so save yourself the trouble and find another set.

Low capacity

These batteries have only 2500 miliamp hours of capacity. Most NiMh rechargeable D batteries have about four times this capacity. Even most nickel-cadmium D batteries have higher capacity than 2500 mah. This battery is simply a sub-c or AA battery enclosed in a plastic shell the size of a D battery. In other words, this battery packs as much power as a AA battery. Stay away from Energizer D batteries. Get another brand such as Powerizer, which has four times the capacity.

worked great for the baby swing

We had 8 of these batteries for our daughter's baby swing - it needed 4 at a time, so we would charge the extra set while she used the first set. Regardless of how often we changed them (depending on how much she used the swing, it varied from 3-7 days) we always had a charged set ready. Since she used the swing daily for nearly a year, we would have spent a fortune on regular batteries even if they lasted a day or two longer than these!

I have used rechargeable batteries for many years...the NiMH's usually perform quite well. This particular brand and battery size has been very disappointing. Originally used in a light duty hot wire foam cutter it works well. But for anything beyond that light usage, my experience has been that it does not maintain a charge for very long under any other kind of load. Tried to use in a battery operated ornament spinner but it will only last about 1 hour before it needs recharging. Can't vote thumbs up on this one.

I bought these batteries for my daughters baby swing. The batteries last for maybe 6hours on a full charge. I was hoping they would last like normal batteries (15+ hours), but they don't. These rechargeable drain so fast that I had to buy a whole new set just to swap them out while they charge. I wouldn't recommend these batteries.

  • A. Yes, buy the Energizer charger sold by Walton-Mart. It will charge these batteries in about 3 hours and the rechargeable batteries can be recharged over 100 times.

  • A. Ummm yes! Why else would you buy re-charable batteries, if you can't re-charge them. They aren't very expensive. Personally I love my Energizer charger, I have saved lots of $$ going this route!

  • A. Yes. Be sure the charger will fit D cells. Because most rechargeable D cells are merely AA cells in a bigger container, you may want to buy some AA cells and an adapter like this: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/soshine-2xaa-to-d-size-cell-battery-converter-case-2-pack-7031

  • A. Yes - be sure the charger you buy will charge the size and type of batteries you have. Ex: AA, AAA etc and if they are NiCad, Alkaline (rechargeable) or NiMH's.

  • A. The NIMH battery self-drains by nature. Since these D2 rechargeables are actually AA's inside, they may be a poor choice for your needs. For maximum reliability, replaceable alkalines are much better.

  • A. Yes, I have charged these weeks in advance of use and found them to have retained a charge that allows many hours of use (10 or more hours) depending on the load.

  • A. Yes, NiMh batteries can be charged when they are not fully empty as long as you use a smart charger (one that detects that the charge is complete as opposed to using a timer). If you use a timer-based charger (often called an "overnight" charger), you will need to drain the battery to 1 volt before recharging, or you risk overcharging the battery, which will destroy it or reduce its lifespan. I would not recommend Energizer rechargeable D batteries as they have about 1/4 the capacity of other brands.
