    Delicious and easy to prepare

I was happy to find this product- as other large containers of dried easy to prepare hash browns has become unavailable at SAMS clubs in my area. These are just as tasty and easy to prepare as the other kinds, and in fact we prepared them the same way, disregarding the instructions on the package and achieved perfect results. Use a 1:1 ratio of hot water and dried hash browns to let them rehydrate for 10-20 minutes and drain off excess water, then cook them up with a little bit of oil on medium heat. After I tested them and found they are just as good as the other popular name brand type, I ordered two more cans for my parents.

Just like Waffle House hash browns

When I found out the Waffle House uses dehydrated hash browns I was a woman on a mission to recreate them at home since we have no Waffle House restaurants in Mass. I started with some they sell on Amazon that come in small cartons, you open the carton, fill with very hot (boiling) water, wait ten minutes, drain and then fry. They were very good. But these Emergency Essentials were at a much better price so I gave them a try. Way better! They have less additives than the Golden Grill carton ones and are far less salty. To make them taste like Waffle House, fill a mug with these. Then pour boiling water (I actually used very hot water from my instant hot tap but you could microwave water to near boiling) Fill the mug to the top. Let them sit for about 10-15 minutes, I put saran over the top so they would spill over. They swell up and absorb the water. Spoon them into a skillet, cook on Medium high to High in olive oil (or vegetable oil) with a pat of butter (Waffle house uses butter flavored oil) For the first two minutes, gently stir them around. Then get them evenly dispersed and let them cook without disturbing for another two minutes or so to get the undersides golden. Then use a spatula to gently flip them , let those sizzle for two more minutes or so. Turn off the burner and if you like your hash with Cheese like "scattered and smothered" at Waffle house, you can add a few slices of American on top...BUT it tastes much better if you don't use American, try using shredded White NY Sharp cheddar. Any brand is fine, but sharp and white brings these to a whole new level. Lightly sprinkle, let it melt and serve. I do not tell anyone these are dehydrated, but they are so good I could serve them at a restaurant. I have hand shredded my own, they are always too soggy. Frozen are OK but just not great. These are the real deal!!!

    Fantastic product & taste

Just saw the Emergency Essential products on Walmart.com - fantastic. The Hash Browns are easy to use and have a great taste. This is a great product!

    Essential hashbrowns

These hashbrowns are absolutely full of flavor and easy to prepare. I soaked them in hot water and 2 tablespoons of freeze dried onion bits, drained and they fried to a beautiful golden brown. These are excellent for everyday use or long term storage. I absolutely love the flavor and would recommend to anyone.

These are TRIPLED in price ... $7 to $20 !

I have purchased these several times. They are decent hashbrowns, but the fact that Walmart has TRIPLED the price, it is not worth it. I am now buying Golden Grill or Hungry Jack, same product and way more in line with the price they should be. Not sure why Walmart would do that. Quite frankly, the Golden Grill in the individual boxes come in a multi box shipment and you can make smaller batches easier buy adding VERY hot water to the carton, let it sit for ten minutes and they are fluffy and ready to cook. I only switched to these in the large can because they were priced a little better, but now, there is no comparison and they end product is the same. Just shop around.
