We received this product from Educational Insights, but all opinions are our own. My 6 year old son has been asking for a solar system model for a while now. This one is great. It took about 5 minutes to put together. The booklet it came with is very informative and has some great information on each planet. The constellation projection is a huge bonus and was a great addition. He and my 3 year old daughter loved staring at the ceiling!

Awesome product, works great. It requires 4 AA batteries - not part of the product.
Such a fun and interactive product!
My daughter was so excited to see this fun Motorized Solar System in action! She quickly identified a couple of the planets - "Look! Here's Saturn! Jupiter! Uranus!" She stated it was the "best day ever" when we turned the lights out downstairs and watched the constellations light up the ceiling and walls. I can't wait to incorporate this product into our homeschooling. I noticed it could be considered "flimsy" in the wrong hands. My daughter is generally careful with items, so I don't foresee it being an issue for us.
Awesomeness for kids and parents
This is a great item. It engaged my 3 year old, my 6 year old and my husband and I. The booklet enclosed provided great learning lessons-perfect for this homeschooling mom. My 6 year old was able to assemble it with very minimal help and immediately recognized most the planets. My girls love to use it as nightlight with the constellations on their ceiling. It has opened the door for many educational conversations.
Out of this world!
The GeoSafari® Motorized Solar System is a fantastic educational tool for kids of most ages! It is easy to put together; I think it took about 5 minutes. It comes with an instruction booklet explaining how to put it together, but more importantly, it has a teacher's guide to give ideas of ways to use the solar system and fun facts. The solar system itself can be viewed in a stationary setting or while rotating. The group of planets closer to the sun rotate faster than the group further from the sun which is great but my science guy husband says he wished each planet would rotate progressively faster to make it more realistic. Personally, I would have liked the planets to be more detailed and realistic looking, but otherwise love this product. The way the system is set up, you can use it with the sun or the constellations projecting. The package says the recommended ages for the product are ages 8-12 but I've actually been using with with my soon to be 5 year old. She has always loved the moon and has more recently become interested in the stars and the planets. This model solar system is the perfect way to visually explain to her how the plants move and why it gets dark at night (a question she asks often!). Kids should be able to grow with this product. Younger kids can learn a little about the earth's rotation around the sun and use the constellation projection as a nightlight because it has an automatic shut off after 20 minutes. As kids get older, they can learn about where the rest of the planets sit, how quick or slow they move and learn the symbols for each planet. All in all, we love this motorized solar system and know we will use it for years to come. We received the GeoSafari® Motorized Solar System from Educational Insights to try out for free but all opinions are my own. #educationalinsights
Great way to introduce your kids to the solar system
I recently purchased Educational Insights Geosafari Motorized Solar System to introduce my kids to what lies beyond our planet. Also, with the solar eclipse happening, I wanted to show them how our planets move in relation to one another. The manufacturer recommended age is 8-12, but it's never too early to introduce the basics to your children. Right now, we're focusing more on the names and order of the planets. As they get older, we'll get into more complex information. I loved that the model came with a 28-page guide, and included activities to help introduce the planets and explain the mythology behind some of the constellations. That's another thing, you can remove the top to the sun and put on a piece that turns any room into a mini planetarium! My kids LOVED this, and my son goes to sleep with it on in his room every night! The only downside to this model is that the planets do not spin as they rotate, and if you're not careful, they can fall out of the model quite easily. Still, it's easy to put the planets back in place, and for the price point, I would recommend this to anyone whose child has an interest in astronomy!
great homeschooling tool
This came just in time for the eclipse and it was a great teaching tool for out science lessons. My kids loved the constellations as well and we will get plenty of use out of it in the future. As its a permanent fixture on our shelf now I wish it was a bit sturdier and more aesthetically pleasing but otherwise it has worked great for us!
Unfortunately it doesn't work. Tried multiple times to make it work, no luck. Changed batteries multiple time. Still no luck
Motor doesn't work!
The motor doesn't work! We tried everything, including two different sets of batteries, which we tested on other devices.
