I've wanted a Dyson for years and finally decided to get one of the stick vacuums because I have a very bad spine and can't carry a regular vacuum up and down the stairs in my house. I bought the V7 Animal since we have a dog with a double coat and are constantly fighting to keep her hair off the floor. A few days before I used this the first time, I had my son vacuum with our old style machine and it seemed to get most of the hair up. Then I used the V7 and what you see in the photo is what happened. I was SHOCKED at how much hair it pulled up. And this is a stick vacuum! I literally couldn't believe it.
What's just as great about this is that I also have terrible allergies and I tend to have problems with my asthma after I vacuum. My allergist even told me when I was 14 that I should never vacuum again because of all the allergens that get kicked up into the air for hours after vacuuming. When I've used this, I can only tell the slightest increase in my allergies. It just does not kick things up like other vacuums do. It may sound silly, but I almost consider this to be a sort of medical necessity. Anyone who has respiratory problems like me will understand what I mean.
The power and convenience this possesses absolutely blows my mind. The stick and all the handheld accessories do such an incomparable job at cleaning that it's almost not a chore. I just regret that I waited so long to get it.
I ordered the Dyson V7 Animal vacuum, since my previous battery operated vacuum (from another manufacturer) continued to disappoint me. I heard great things about other versions of the Dyson V series, and I wanted to give the V7 a try. What first impressed me, was the packaging. Most people would not even notice it, but the packaging was made of recyclalble cardboard, and the items were carefully wrapped in plastic film. This kept the V7 vacuum in perfect shape when it was delivered to my doorstep.
When I opened the box, there was no complicated assembly instructions. Basically, just charge the battery, click on the attachment, and off to the cleaning task. My first task was to clean the blinds for my 20 windows in my home. The V7 vacuum has two suction power levels, and I found that the lower setting did a great job. How could I tell? Well the blinds were cleaned, with little to no dust spread in the air. Using this setting, I cleaned all of the window blinds.
After a quick battery recharge, I went to my second task, cleaning the carpet underneath the dressers and bed-frames. I used the motorized direct drive cleaner head attachment and started to clean the carpet on the lower setting. While this setting did a good job, I switched the unit to the higher setting to help speed up the process and remove all of the dog hair on one pass! Even at the higher vacuum setting with the motorized head attachment, the V7 vacuum held up to its 30 minute run time promise.
Overall, I am very impressed. The lightweight vacuum is very quiet, and very powerful. I have used it on carpet, tile floors, and window blinds. It captures all of the dust as it collects the dirt and dog hair, with no dust being released into the air around you. So far, I have not found a task that this vacuum can not do in its 30 minute (or longer depending on the vacuum power setting) run time.
I bought this a month ago as I wanted the convenience of grabbing hold of it and getting to work. Now that I've used it a bit I am amazed by how much it picks up. The ability to see my cleaning effort in the canister is a big plus and the attachments on my model are super.
It didn't take long to break the "sweep the kitchen floor" after dinner habit and replace it with "Dyson the kitchen floor" after dinner. So easy and convenient. Love not having to touch the dirt and crumbs. Surprised at the power of a battery operated appliance. I am sorry I didn't buy one years ago.
This vacuum is the best ever. I still have a regular vacuum that my housekeeper uses. A day or two after she cleans I run my vacuum and am amazed at how much dirt it picks up especially in the carpeted area. I love this vacuum so much I bought two more... one for my upstairs and another for our vacation home.
I had an earlier model of a cordless vacuum from Dyson that stopped charging all the way about 6 months ago. It was about 6 years old...so understandable. I decided to just get a cheaper brand of hand vac figuring it wouldn't matter too much. Boy, was I wrong!! It had the worst suction ever! So I decided that I would have my old Dyson fixed... I called the number and was told that I should take it to the store in Schaumburg and they would diagnose the problem for free. Long story short (kind of) I ended up leaving with the Dyson V7 Animal and I am so thrilled. It does everything my old one did plus so much more. I highly recommend this model and Dyson in general. Love this company!
It is very light weight and easy to use. Cleans well and the charge lasts longer than I need. The charging station /hanger keeps the vacuum out of the way whole not in use. I know they make other models with a bigger canister but it is not needed if you empty it after each use.
It does do a great job, however, the battery life is very short. On the high setting, I can only vacuum about 25% of my home before it dies and has to be recharged. I like the maneuverability of the machine and it's fairly light to handle. I just wish the battery lasted longer.
Bought this primarily for the cordless feature and from day one it was a disappointment. Suction is sub par and when using the high suction feature, the battery lasts less than 15 minutes...more like 10. And now, 8 months later, it has stopped working at all. When pressing the trigger on high suction, the motor shuts on and off and then after a few minutes stops completely.
