Tedious
This did not work as well as I thought or wanted it to the tape is a total waste you definitely have to measure and cut precisely and blow drying it was even more annoying to add insult to injury a store around the corner from my house had it literally the same box for only $3 I gave it 2 stars because once I brought my own duct tape it did stick and the draft stayed out a bit not sure if it was this or just the darn tape but never again for all this throw the whole window away but if your stuck in a rental you cant oh and by the summer you'll be replacing this and the tape IRKY

Cozy windows

Verified purchase

I adore this stuff. I cover every window in my house every fall. Once you run a hair dryer over it you can not even tell it's on! It doesn't hinder your view at all. It's also really easy to use. Keep those drafts out!

bought ACE hardware brand first. They were so frustrating. Tape wouldn't stick. Plastic barely shrank when heated. Ordered these instead. Really easy to install and work well.

easy to use with immediate benefits

This worked really very well. Beyond expectations. Preparation of the surface is key to success- clean it with something such as isopropyl alcohol (not included in the box), warm it up with a hairdryer or hot air gun then apply the tape. Works well. Cut the panels with about 1- 1 1/2" excess all around and stick on- its easier than you think. Be patient with the shrinking when using a hair dryer. Too much heat will perforate the panel. Clean your windows before putting this on- a dirty window behind the sheet will just irritate. Takes about 20 mins per (large) window including cleaning. If you have larger than standard windows (I do) then the panel width is too small so you need to cut it lengthwise- which is wasteful as you end up with thin unusable strips but it doesnt seem to come in the size I needed (70" tall). But at the price, that's not an issue. Noticable difference immediately. Been about a month and it is still working well and the tape is on solid

Great way to save on electric bill!!!

I like the film a lot! The installation was real easy and quick. I have old wood windows in my apartment which are nowhere near to be insulated and I constantly have moisture accumulating on them every morning and dripping down. So, the film on bottom of my windows have fallen off because of moister dripping down, but I have put a duck tape on the bottom and it holds! Be careful installing the film, do not over use the blow dryer otherwise the film will shrink so much that it will come off the sticky tape! But you wont believe how much cold air that film holds, on a windy nights I can just hear a wind blowing through my windows and making the film shake, but guess what? None of that cold air is coming through! Wonderful way to save on winter electric bills! I highly recommend it!

New window to reduce your heating or cooling bill is more likely the best solution. Unfortunately I do not have the $15,000 they quoted to do this. This is a fantastic much cheaper solution that works for both summer and winter and still looks as if its not there. Even if you redid it each year it would take 300 years to cost the same as new windows. I will stick to these until I sell thank you.

Does what it claims; careful with pets

This is our second winter using window film and we are very excited to be doing so. It can be a tad tricky to apply without wrinkles. Nothing fatal, but you will have to spend more time with the hair dryer on windows where you left a wrinkle near the edge. We're a lot better at it now. They go on faster. Two of us get one installed in about 15 minutes (that includes measuring the window, measuring and cutting the film, cleaning the window (since you won't be able to clean it on the inside till spring!), cleaning the edge around the window where you'll tape it up (so the tape will stick), putting up the double-stick tape, stretching the film over the tape and sticking it, cutting off any larger overhangs, and tightening it with a blow dryer. It's hard to say _exactly_ how much it helps, but we have measured heating costs fairly carefully and tried to compensate for variations in outside temperature. We know for a fact that our home retained more heat on cooler but not frigid nights, meaning the furnace did not run at all on many nights with temperatures in the 30s. This year we are covering the windows in the basement as well. Great stuff. Short of buying new windows, which is on our list, but would be almost five thousand dollars, we're very pleased with the film and will continue to use it. Gotcha: animals can be a problem. Not a huge one, but a problem. We have a dog and two cats. The cats will probably be responsible for about 20-30 tears over the winter. The dog will do one or two. The tears are trivial to fix with clear packing tape, so it's not really a problem as long as you catch them fairly soon. We've never missed a tear long enough for it to become a huge problem.

Plastic Waaaaay Too Thin!

The quality of the plastic in this kit has declined! I used this kit before in the past with the same window treatments(mini blinds) and the plastic NEVER tore. I will not get 10 windows out of this kit because I had to double each window. Not only did I double the plastic, but I had to to seal off the edges with clear packaging tape. Save your money and buy drop cloths or another brand! I wish I could get a FULL REFUND only because I spent so much time and it was still an epic fail!

1. Stated on box; Pre-taped film: 65.1 sq ft (7ftx9.3ft), 6.0m2 (2.12m x 2.84m) I have used this 3 years now and it does pretty good. I tried using a thicker plastic film but could not get tape strong enough to hold it up. The double sided tape just couldn't hold up. Good luck.

3. The film is a little sturdier than good quality plastic kitchen wrap. It shrinks to fit with the hair dryer and is very clear. Hope this helps!

6. Not very thick. Its just like a normal kitchen trash bag, not heavy duty.

7. It is not that thick at all maybe 1 micron but it works very well and cannot be seen at all once you put the hair dryer on it. The question is a bit obscure. If the issue you are trying to address is included you may get a better answer.

8. It is 0.7 mil. It's thick enough so you can push it without fear of breaking it, or you can flick it with your finger to create a sort of drum sound. It won't really break without coming in contact with something sharp - like an animal's claws.

1. Thank you for your question! The tape is recommended for use only on painted wood, aluminum, vinyl, and finished/varnished wood.

2. I had the same issue- textured sheetrock on one edge of a window- I cleaned it with alcohol and warmed it up with a hairdryer, applied the tape and it seemed to work.
by P19M

3. Sheet rock is paper so it should stick but you say you don't have wood all the way round. I don't know how effective it will be because of the transition between wood and sheet rock. Maybe take the wood off. The product is so cheap is is worth giving it a try. Or go to the manufactures webpage and ask them

4. I haven't tried it, but I doubt it. It's pretty standard double stick tape. Nothing particularly special.

1. Thank you for your question Dale! Our Window Kits are intended to be used in the cold seasons. It will block any air flow that you may have if you have drafty windows, but it does not provide any heat absorbing insulation qualities.

2. you would be better off getting something that reflects the heat or new windows with argon e in them.
by fishstocktonlake

3. Yes it will work as with double glazing will do both. don't expect the same results but will make a significant difference. The difference hugely out ways the results you will get in heat reduction
by happyasapig

4. We use it to keep heat in and cold out, which is the opposite, so you'll have to keep that in mind for my answer. It does insulate. That is, it forms an extra barrier that makes temperature move more slowly. But it is not reflective, and it is not darkening. So it lets ALL the light in. I wouldn't think it would help much for you.
