Excellent monitor at a good price

Customer review by WeiLi

This is the 3rd monitor I tried for my new computer. I returned the other 2 (HP 2311gt and Viewsonic VX2453mh) and will keep this one because it is so much better. Pros: - Amazing color. Colors are authentic. With deep black and true white. - Display of text is very sharp. Good to your eyes. - Fully adjustable monitor stand. The other 2 monitors are very short and the height is fixed. Why pay extra to buy additional monitor stand, if you can get this one? - The default setting are good enough. I barely did anything before feel satisfied with the image of the monitor. Not like HP and Viewsonic: both require significant amount of adjustment. - The IPS technology does give you consistent image qualify from all angles. Much better than TN monitor. - Nice build quality. Extra feature such as USB ports. - Price is right considering all above. Cons: - I did notice the response time is a tiny bit slower than the Viewsonic display. When I watch videos. No a problem at all. You will focus on the beautiful color more.

Really Good, Really Inexpensive Monitor

I ordered this monitor for its very low price and its promise of good image quality. I was not disappointed. Out of the box it was bright! Oh my, it was bright! After dialing the brightness down to about 20%, I found that a Photoshop image of one of my photographs looked close enough to a printed image hanging on the wall. I know that the color will be fine. My standards are high. I normally work with a higher-priced color-calibrated monitor. When I finally get a chance to calibrate this monitor I know that it will be fabulous. There are no Mac drivers for this monitor, which means that some of the functionality is not available. You can't rotate the monitor to Portrait mode. This doesn't trouble me. When I called support to find out if there are Mac drivers, I found support to be a little lame. It took two guys far too long to tell that Mac drivers are just not available. So, if you're looking for really good value, I would recommend this monitor. This monitor does not have a service tag, so I am not sure that this will get posted.

Fantastic photo editing monitor.

I needed a professional quality large monitor for photo editing work, but without the professional monitor price. The Ultrasharp U2312 fit the bill perfectly. Color and contrast reproduction is faithful at a wide range of viewing angles and is comparable to monitors many times the price. Power consumption on the LED back lit screen is extremely low, an important feature to me as I work from home and am at my computer a large part of the day. The resolution is exactly what I would want in a monitor of this size. My favorite feature for photo editing is the ability to rotate the monitor to portrait mode, which finally allows me to see a full size representation of those photos. Only minor issue that I notice is some slight light bleed at the bottom right corner, but it's only barely noticeable on very dark scenes. It's also not an optimal monitor for gaming as the response time is noticeably slow.

Absolutely best solution for picture perfect display

I've been using this monitor for almost a year and here are my greatest points about this screen: 1. I can work for over 12 hours on it. 2. Picture is like everyone states - superb...and I mean razor sharp images, crisp and accurate color, and high contrast ratio. Blacks are black and whites are white! 3. Perfect height/tilt adjustment for any desk. All my monitors are Ultrasharp monitors from Dell. I have over 25 years experience in computers and tech. I would buy this again and again.'s worth the extra cost for a reason. The difference between the Ultrasharp series and standard is a dramatic difference. This doesn't have an HDMI port but that's ok because it has a a Displayport; besides, a Displayport is a more advanced port. A simple adapter for $5 will allow you to connect an HDMI cable. Anyway, you're using this for your probably wouldn't be connecting HDMI to it.

Beautiful colour - terrible bleed

I purchased this monitor at the beginning of November 2013 and received a revision A00 panel manufactured in September 2013. The menu is much easier to use than my Asus VH242H monitor, has a great stand, and several connection options. Although a displayport cable wasn't included in the box, both dvi and vga cables were. Upon plugging the monitor in I was treated to wonderful colours and a bright display. Unfortunately, the panel had significant backlight bleed in the bottom left corner of the panel, even when the brightness was turned down to 0. Dell sent me a new panel which had even worse bleed than the first one. I've spent approximately 10 hours on the phone with support to rectify this situation and the end result was that I returned everything and received a refund. I'm not sure I will buy another panel from Dell after this experience. Their customer support staff were excellent. The panels don't seem to be. Playing games or watching movies with any significant blacks or darkness is somewhat pointless because of the bleed from the panel when looking straight at it. Really too bad.

Great Monitor

I bought the U2311H a year ago and it's a great monitor so I bought its successor the U2312HM for another computer. There is backlight bleed (more than on the U2311H) from all four monitor edges but it's only really noticeable on a dark screen. The monitor is set up way too bright out of the box but that's easily fixed as the on screen menu is easy to navigate and to adjust the settings. IPS is the way to go on a monitor this big. I looked at some TN type screens and the colour shift is very noticeable even when looking at the edges of the screen from the seat in front of the computer. No problem with an IPS monitor! The response times aren't as good as on a TN monitor but I haven't had any issues when gaming or watching movies. Topping it all of is Dell's 3 year Zero Bright Pixel warranty. This is hands down the best monitor on the market in it's price range.

Great monitor

Just got the monitor setup and so far really like it. Other than the normal stuff like surfing the internet, e-mail etc. I do weddings for friends and family and a few paid jobs, so that is what I bought this monitor for, photography. I had a Dell 23 inch monitor before this, which I thought it was nice, but it was no comparison to this monitor when it comes to photo editing. My FXS simulator looks great also and I see no problem with the 8ms response time. There are two things I do see and that is. There is a small led bleed in the upper left hand corner, but is only noticeable when looking right at it. The other is the pixals can be seen when setting too close, that is not much of a problem because I never set too close anyway. It should only get better once I get my graphics card in sync with the monitor. Over all this is a excellent monitor.

UltraSharp U2312HM -- good looker but puzzling

This is one lovely display, which I really appreciate for photo editing. The colors are true, with very little calibration needed right out of the box. The flexibility in adjustment is also a nice feature. So why would Dell not provide an HDMI input, requiring me to use a clunky HDMI/DVI adapter to connect to my Dell laptop (which is all of 1-1/2 yr old)? Interestingly, this digital input did not improve the picture enough over the VGA input to warrant all the extra hardware, so I stuck with the analog input. The other (little) design flaw is the location of the power switch. It's not a big deal, but it's too easy to turn the unit off when you grasp it at the two lower corners to change the angle of view. But the main thing is that the display is very nice to look at and plenty big enough, even for using Photoshop.

Very nice response time even for games. I do occasional graphics artwork so the color reproduction matters and this does that rather well. The stand is solid and does not feel particularly flimsy and has many options for angles (horizontal and vertical). Customer support is top notch if you have any issues. Only con I had with this is a manufacturing defect which is back light bleeding. The one monitor I did get without that had an electrical issue that caused the screen to flicker. Those issues are likely easy to resolve with whoever is in charge of the workers that assemble these. Overall very impressed with the monitor. Side note: No service tag on monitors so can't do verified buyer thing and it means going through more menus on support calls. It is worth it though.

I purchased a Dell "P" (professional) model a couple of months ago and it was junk. More money than my old Acer but a lot worse image. Luckily Dell allowed me to send it back for full credit and took care of the shipping. I purchased this unit after reading the reviews and I love it. I use it on my work desk for hours and the text is sharp and easy to read better than anything else. Colors on the better Acer models are good, but this is a little better yet. I do not use this at home so I don't know how my racing games would react, but I am thinking about buying one for there also. The previous Dell Pro model was tweaked and tweaked and tweaked to try to get a good image. This was great out of the box. The buttons are easy to use for tweaking, but it doesn't need it.
