Talk about a beast for a good price.

This is my first alienware, when purchasing the m14x you have 4 versions to build, I built the second option and upgraded the ram to 12 gigs and added a few other bells and whistles. I was able to play wow on ultra with 90latency and 89fps while downloading my entire iTunes library from icloud and downloading league of legends. That's insane! Not to mention the size, its so mobile and I'm constantly gaming at various friends houses. The lighting zones is hours of fun if your waiting on bg ques and such and the soft touch finish is icing on the cake. I will say that if you are going mobile, switch to power save mode though, it will kill the battery fast on high performance, but honestly most gamers are plugged in as is. m14x is definitely exceeding my expectations.

    Game Victorious

It delivers exactly what it claims. Can go into a lot of details and explain everything but lets keep it short. This a machine built to offer performance while still making it portable. The Nvidia 650M GT @ 2GB is more than capable at running the games you love at a good framerate. There has been no game as of now that showed a sign of deep stutter or lag (occasional frame rate drops were observable few time but very marginal). The games I tried are (Crysis 1,2,3, Battlfield 3, GTA 4, COD series, NFS series, Asassin's Creed Series, Batman Arkham series, Farcry 3, Tomb Raider and few more). All were run on high settings. A friend of mine wanted to play on my system while i was away and when i returned he was running 3 games at once (Arkham City, 2012 NFS Most Wanted and Dead Space 3) and yup, no lag! All 3 games were running without any hiccups. Leaving the more inept details aside, it is clear of this systems potential. The next thing to talk about is the portability. Yes it is an alienware so it is not light. But it makes up with its compatibility in terms of fitting snugly into laptop bags. The dual GPU setup is extremely power efficient. As suggested by Dell, you do get 6 hrs of battery life provided you keep things to a minimum (enabling power saver to operate the i7 clock speed to 1196MHz, brightness low and use less intensive apps (no gaming or CPU or GPU intensive apps like Photoshop and other editing software)). All in all it is one of the best laptops out there which offers you the power with portability and I am very satisfied with my M14XR2. Specs: Core i7 @2.30 Ghz (turbo boost to 3.40 Ghz) 8 GB 1333 Mhz Nvidia 2GB 650M GT 500 GB 7200 RPM HDD

    Excellent product!!!

Excellent product but does have its share of a small amount of flaws. Maybe its just me but I do look forward to Alienware to fix any such flaws because I am lovin' their product and looking forward to recommend it to others. Pros: -Excellent graphical processing power -Outstanding audio from the onboard Klipch -The keyboard (absolutely love it) Cons: -Audio system sometimes shuts down completely and have to restart a couple of times to get it running again -Freezes sometimes during the shutdown procedure Bottom line: All in all an outstanding product but it would have been even better if the glitch with the audio was fixed - but who knows (as I said before) maybe its just me. Would definitely recommend.

Awesome gaming platform, but with slight issues.

It looks awesome enough, it oozes awesomeness and there's no game that it can handle. But, I had my fair shares of slight lags when playing games. Its not something that is too serious but needs to be dealt with, because sometimes the lag can pop-up at the worst time possible. Haha, I had my fair shares of that. Hope that this issue can be resolved. Besides that, I highly recommend the M14X model for its sheer performance and ultra-portability. RED is the colour you should seek for.

    AMAZING!!!!

Finally after a long summer of working I got the computer I always dreamed of and it was worth every penny!! Nothing can slow down this computer with 16Gb of RAM, 2Gb NVIDIA GT 650M GPU and 3rd Gen Intel® Core™ i7 processor. Top of the line!

    Alienware's shame

I have been an alienware user for a while and have seen the quality and reliabilty gradually go down. The sytem i am using now i.e. the M14x r2 started off with being a pretty decent system but after a few months its marred by lack of quality components. I have had to replace the charger couple of times as they fail to charge the battery after a while. The screen has developed a bright patch, the speakers crackle even at 30% volume. The keyboard automatically starts to capitalize the letter unless i strike the shift button to get it back to normal. The laptop produces immense heat even when its idle and the fan never turns off. There are frequent BSODs because of some hardware issues. Worse of them all is the trottling during gameplay which is bizzare for a gaming laptop, after that i feel like i am gaming on a netbook. Overall my latest experience with alienware has been a really expensive nightmare and i would now never ever venture to opt for an Alienware product ever again.

Best laptop I have ever owned

I bought the AW m14x laptop on December 27 and got it on January 15. It was a very long, hard wait but when I finally got it, I was so soooo happy! it was more than what I expected. the performance is extreme and the laptop itself looks AWESOME! I loved how the power button changes color right as I plugged it in. The first test was Minecraft and the m14x was flawless when it came to FPS. I then bought Skyrim from EB games but there was no activation code included which made me super mad because i coulden't play it! but that is another subject. It had better sound than my Sony 50 inch flat screen!!!! was jaw rattelingly loud! the fan was good, not too loud but keeps it cool. Pros: sleek design Amazing performance Amazing sound Lots of hardware ports (love the sd card slots) USB 3.0 Good touchpad (I dont know why everyone is so picky about it, it is great) AlienFX much more CONS: ...UM... Having to wait 3 weeks! Also, im not a big fan of macafee or whatever. Just download MS Security Essentials.

    Amazing system, Top notch

Ive had this system about month and half now. Like many people mentioned my expectations where moddest because coming from building gaming desktops I did not expect much from 650m card in laptop. Needless to say I was amazed at performace from this little 14" gaming laptop. Farcry 3 plays maxed with no lag. Its really stunning piece of hardware. Mine has upgraded video card, Upgraded screen, 128gb SSD boot drive with 750gb storage drive and 12gb ram. I would not personally buy the base model but thats just me. The Battery life is very very good also ~6hrs. Only negative points I see are these... -Glare on screen -The keyboard is high enough to leave fingerprint oil on screen sometimes when closed -Only GTX 650m option, Love to see more high-end cards and maybe option for 2 ssd's in raid 0 plus storage drive in 14" notebook. Other then that its amazing notebook, my wife wants one too so I hope the r3 is really good cause I will give my r2 to my wife and buy r3 for myself.

    Exceeded expectations

Performance: 9/10 Absolutely brilliant. I play some fairly graphic intensive games (SWTOR, BF3) and my m14x can run them on almost the highest settings with 60+ fps - amazing for a laptop. I was expecting much lower fps than i got so very impressed. Design: 8/10 Looks amazing with the lighting zones, feels well made. It gets a little hot but agian less so than i was expecting. Fingerprints tend to show up but again not a big deal. One thing to note is that it is fairly chuncky (as expected) Display: 8/10 I got the 900p display and it is great - some complain that it isn't bright enough but i think its fine Battery: 8/10 Again many people criticise the battery life but i have found it brilliant getting over 6 hours when not gaming Overall Rating: 8.5/10 An awesome laptop which definitely met and exceeded my expectations. Upgrading from an Alienware m11x R2 which i also found amazing (and which i actually won in a competition =p), I think i will be a dedicated Alienware customer for years to come

    Great Laptop

Pros: From the moment I opened the box I was impressed. The laptop looks way better in person than it does over the web. I was also impressed by how sturdy it felt. The keys feel really nice and the AlienFX feature is awesome. As for performance I was impressed as well. I went with the base version of the M14x except I went with the recommended processor and I also went with windows 7 professional. I was unsure how it was going to do in the gaming realm but it did not dissappoint. It plays Skyrim and Battlefield 2 Bad company flawlessy on ultra settings (this was after I updated the nvidia drivers). The system is just quick with really fast boot up and shut down times. And it has not overheat at all! I have a stand that it sits on but the stand simply raises the back of the laptop to let airflow through. Cons: The only con I can think of is the fan noise. They do get kind of loud however it doesn't bother me that much at all. Overall this was a really great buy and I was extremely impressed with it.
