This laptop is simply the best you can get. I went with the 3820qm i7, 6GB RAM, GTX 680m SLI, 750GB HDD, & the DVD-RW drive with Windows 7 Home Premium and it is amazing. I turned it on right out of the box & it lit up with a Borg-like neon green. After doing Window's first time set up, I was online, downloading Chrome, Firefox, & Steam. I got Arma 2 & ran the built-in benchmarks on near max settings with 30+ fps (with more tinkering, I'm sure that could be improved). I've also downloaded BOINC (a cloud-computing research program that uses your PC's extra resources to crunch data for scientific experiments, like SETI), & this is blasting through ClimatePrediction. As for the sound, it is the best audio quality I've heard out of a laptop. But the best thing is its looks. The 18.4" monster screen is gorgeous, the front grill looks like it's straight off of a UFO's grill, & the completely customizable lighting lets you truly make it your own. Overall, this M18x is the best computer you could get.

It is now about a year since I bought my computer after being so frustrated with the Asus I had. I would tell anyone who likes to game and likes to use their computer for whatever other uses, that you will never find any computer - desktop or laptop - better than this one. I added some extras and spent about $4,000.00 to get what I really wanted. It may sound like a lot, but let me tell you, this computer is fast, gameplay on it blows everyone away when they see it. No lagging, no crashing. I have no telling how many mods on Skyrim and never have problems like everyone else complains about. I could go on and on about this computer, but I listen to music on it, have family photos on it, but really game on it the most. The smartest purchase I have made was investing in an Alienware computer that is geared to last a long time. I have no regrets and would advise anyone that is tired of being aggravated by their computer to choose Alienware.

For those looking to invest in a monstrously powerful gaming device, the new Alienware M18x is probably the biggest and baddest monster in the closet of high performance laptops. Packing a walloping 3rd Gen. Intel core i7 Processor, with optional 4.1GHz Ram. Smoothly running Windows 7 Ultimate and armed to the teeth with a 1TB Hard Drive and 32 GB memory drive. This beastly machine whisks me through the cataclysmic lands of the World of Warcraft with ease. Empowers my champions with the might to stand strong in the Summoner's Rift in a game of League of Legends. Whether, cruising the universe with Shepard and his crew in Mass Effect 3 or battling it up colonial style in the new Assassin's Creed, my M18x launches me into virtual bliss like the Millennium Falcon into Hyperspace! You if you're unsatisfied with your gaming set up or have just been wanting an upgrade, the new Alienware M18x is what your gaming life has been missing!

First of all I want to say that I bought several Alienware systems since 2007 and I cannot stop buying them. It is like an addiction... I really believe that they deserve what you pay for. I know, it's expensive but is by way far in comparing them with other systems: looks, performance, durability etc. etc. Ofcourse, like all systems out there, we face issues and that is why Dell technical support is there for us. I had several issues here and there and always was saved by the customer service. Wonderful team, I like the way they follow up and make sure everything is completed, even if your problem is solved, they will still check on you to make sure everything is ok. I am not bragging about anybody, I am just giving my serious opinion I always had with Dell. I hope they will keep their wonderful team as it is, they will always have their customers come back to them more and more... I totally recommend it, but focus very much on an extended warranty (as much as possible - according to your budget). Thanks Alienware / Dell for making our dream come true!

The Alienware M18X R2 can only be described as one thing: "A beast!" Overall Impression: The laptop, or more accurately, desktop replacement is big - very big. Well built, constructed from an anodized aluminum body and high quality plastic accents, the laptop screams high quality. The chassis does not attract fingerprints and looks cool while staying cool. Ventilation and cooling is efficient with very little heat felt at typical locations (wrist rest, keyboard, etc.). System runs quiet as well. DIY upgrades are easy since major components (ie hard drive, ram) are easily accessible. Synopsis of Pros/Cons Good: Top notch build quality, , easily upgradeable, lightshow, great cooling system, high end components, good speakers, good screen quality. Bad: Expensive, heavy (roughly 11 lbs), power adapter big and heavy, may not be suitable for individuals looking for a highly portable PC solution. Bottomline: Yes, it's expensive, but this is a case where you get what you pay for. In a fleet of formidable laptops by Alienware, this is the battleship. Expect nothing but brute force.

Alien18X Thus Far

After one month, including two weeks on the road: Very nice machine (of course I expected no less). I ordered my 18x with two video cards, 3 ssd drives ( I should have read the message boards first on the ssd, as they only run at 3Gb instead of 6Gb due to how the RAID0 was setup with the drive chassis limitations) and 32GB RAM. Very pleased with drive performance for my day to day chores. Playing D3 mostly and loving having all the graphics turned all the way up. Sound is great as well with the built-in speakers. Traveled from the US to Australia on vacation and took the laptop with me. I'm used to having a heavy laptop with me as I have had several XPS and Alienware laptops over the years. Got several thumbs up at TSA and security checkpoints. The Alienware backpack works well with this laptop for its side. The high memory allows me to run many virtual machines for labs that I use when teaching and consulting in the virtualization field. The ssd drives work well here as well. Negatives: obviously price for what I spec'd out. Pros: speed, graphics, truly a desktop replacement.

I am 3d character animator, besides my work in the office I also participate in different projects as a freelancer. Last years I began to feel that average usual 'good laptop' is not good enough for me, (I also own Dell XPS17) as animation tasks become more and more complex, number of polygons increase and 3d software becomes 'heavier'. Yes, you can say - 'hey, man, buy a desktop, laptops are not meant to be professionally used with 3d graphics!' But due to several reasons desktop is not suitable for me, it is LAPTOP I needed. It is great that now I can have all the power or professional desktop in form-factor of a laptop! (Well... a laptop with almost 6 kilo of weight, but STILL it is a LAPTOP ;)) I got Alienware m18x r2 with Intel® Core™ i7-3840QM, Windows® 7 Ultimate, 32GB (4 X 8GB) Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz, 256GB SSD SATA 6Gb/s, Dual 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 7970M. This machine is a real crazy beast, it tears apart any complex task I throw at it. My animation work process was never flowing as smooth and as fast as now. So there is only one thing I can say: If you can afford it - buy it! That's it. Really.

I travel quite a bit, so I wanted a gaming laptop to compliment my desktop system when I am on the road . . . now I don't even use my desktop! Alienware laptops are not cheap, especially when you get the upgrades you need to build a truly exceptional system (extra memory, SLI, etc.). But, my God, what a system. I play the lastest games on ultra high settings, get desktop-worthy framerates, and portability to boot. I can't tell you the number of times I have been playing Call of Duty, Skyrim or some other AAA title in an airport lounge and have had people gather around me amazed at the output of my M18x. The other thing is Dell customer service and tech support. I have read other reviews of bad experiences. Not for me. A service tag number unique to every system gives Dell support you exact system specs. They can access your system remotely and try to fix problems online. I was having some graphics issues. When the Dell tech support could not fix it remotely, they sent a technician TO MY OFFICE to replace both installed videocards and the SLI bridge ... THAT is customer service! Dell earned my loyalty for life on that one. Highly recommended. Expensive. But in my opinion, worth every penny.

Ok so it started off a bit bumpy. I had an issue. It was Window's related. What Alienware did for me... They remotely fixed the Window's error. It does happen. I was upset. But they got it done. Then they noticed I had downloaded something incorrectly. They fixed it! Customer service tries to get it right. It took them a while, but they delivered. This machine is powerful and well built. The design seems to be VERY functional, as I have not heating issues at the moment or since I got it. BF3 has it's own lighting FX that blink according to your characters health status. It freaked me out, because I didn't know it came with that feature. Alienware= CRAZY MAD SCIENTISTS. My friends had their doubts, but now they see me having fun and enjoying this BEAST. They all came in and drooled all over it. I'm sure Alienware won't let customers down. You do get what you pay for... I've spoken to the reps, and they want to make sure I keep having the BEST gaming experience on pc with their product. I suggest expressing issues with their staff if something go's wrong right away, and if you're not happy with something, they really want to know. So far so good. It doesn't weigh that much at all. I went SSD! GO SSD! Keep it up GUYS! Game on...

pro:Large screen, nice appearance, nice experience when playing a game. All these deserve the price though! Con:It will be expensive if you need more, better video card, better processor, that would cost more money than upgrade by yourself. One more con: I do hope that Alienware will have the button to forbid the WIN key! That's what a gaming laptop should have, in my opinion. And I've found that in some games, the macro keys won't perform that well. I'm still looking for solutions. Anyway, that won't stop me buying it:) For experienced player, I'd rather suggest upgrading by yourself, or upgrade in the future. The M18x is really awesome. I'll never regret buying it. And for sure, I'll recommend it to my friends.
