I bought it on July, 2014. When I got it, I felt that is very nice. but now i just wanna say I am very disappointed because I had used four months, but now the monitor has flicker, white bar, and blurred screen. I can't believe I bought it from dell online, this quality is really poor. I has only used it four months !!!

I've had this laptop for a little over a month and I have to say, I had reservations when I read about some people's horror stories. However, the only horror I've experienced has been from the DVDs I've watched on this powerful machine. Even the lowest-priced unit, with an i5 processor, delivers outstanding performance even a month later. A few minor glitches here and there, like a problem with Internet Explorer crashing every time it was opened, but that was easy to fix with online advice. I advise you to download one or two other browsers so in case IE has a problem, you have another browser to fall back on. Great frame rates in Second Life and The Ship. Having used Windows 7 on my old computer, I had reservations about 8.1, but it's been smooth sailing and I now prefer 8.1 to 7. The "horror stories" some have experienced with these machines have apparently been exceptions to the rule. I haven't contacted customer service, so that's the only reason I rated that 3 out of 5.

This is the best computer iv'e own. I use to have a alienware 14x and i thought it was the best laptop ever, untill i got the new AW 17. The keys are nicer then the last AW model and it looks freshing and more agressive then the last model. I'm glad they remved the layer of glass from the X series (though i do miss it sometimes.) because now theres never any glare on the screen. The touch pad took a while to get use to, but i do like how the whole thing glows better then the trim now. Any way if your looking at buying a new gaming computer I recommend you go for a AW 17" laptop. The 14 doesnt have a full size keyboard or macro keys and the 17 is perfect for gaming and transport (if you have their briefcase.) I cant say anything bad about this laptop now that i have it because it was worth any extra money. Specs -17 laptop -i7 4700MQ 2.4Ghz -16 GBs of RAM -Windows 8 (highly recommend) -Nvidia 765 w/ 2 GBs of GDDR5 (Can handle high/ultra untill 2016 or so, can always uprade.)

I have recieved my Alienware 17 about a week ago and here what I can tell sofar: Specs:17inch FLH, 750G hard d, 16 Gram x1600, Geforce GTX 770m the rest is a standart at alienware you can check it on their web. Design is absolutely breathtaking , high quality materials all over the place. Please to touch and true intertainment to the eye! Screen colours are warm and clear .Sound coming out of klipsch built in speakers is phenomenal!! Just to mention I'm using Focal speakers as my pc sound unit for 650$.. Sound from klipsch both crisp and loud ,joy to the ear! Gaming experience is bit different for some games...But here I'm not sure if it has anbything to do with alptop itself, but with Vcard..Geforce 770m should be dynamite ,but its just a bit less than that.Worth to mention that even fter long hour of gaming it gets just a bit warm on the left side ,but mostly keeps cool and quiet ,which is very important especially for laptop gamers. I would deffinatly suggest it to anyone, but if you can afford gtx780 go for it!

Alienware 17 Laptop

This is a solidly built laptop. There is almost no flex under pressure and the monitor section is secured very well. The packaging it comes in is equally impressive, almost more like a big black suitcase than a box. The performance itself is what you would expect, it's fast, it's powerful, it can run games with quite high settings. The HD+ screen doesn't have the best viewing angles ever, but it's not bad. This computer does not come preloaded with a bunch of garbage. It has some Alienware software and that's about it. The Alienware software is quite useful, open up the Command Center and tweak your system until it's just the way you want it. The only real downside I've found so far is that I cannot update the drivers for the graphics card because of the dual set up with the Intel card, which allows you to switch to the Intel card to save power, which you'll want to do if you aren't gaming when it's unplugged because this laptop does chug some power.

I have had my Alienware 17 for 2 years 10 Months and it is still going strong. I have traveled most of Africa spending days over terrible roads and this machine has survived without even a groan. I replaced the Keyboard in Year 1 due to a faulty key and the service guys were amazing, I received a replacement in 3 days. If you need a reliable laptop I would recommend this one. The only disadvantage for travelling is the weight almost 7 kg with peripherals, but the newer models are lighter.

I have the top of the line Alienware 17, and it's quite nice. Computing and graphics performance are very nice, the keyboard is pretty much full-sized, and the display is spacious as well. The display itself is OK; the viewing area is not bad, but the image quality is not amazing. The hybrid graphics system -- using the on-board intel chip for some functions and the souped-up discrete graphics for more demanding applications is a good idea, but it can confuse older programs, causing them to fail or to run slowly. The sound card/speakers are very nice, but I have had problems with occasional crackling audio in specific programs (not static but something else), and I'm not sure where the fault for that lies. It's a heavy computer, and in these days where we're moving towards small and light, it's a bit of an aberration. But if you use it as a desktop replacement or don't cart it around too much, that's not a big deal. Also, it ships with Windows 7, and I'm not sure why that is so nearly two years after the advent of Windows 8.

I wanted to really give this rig a shake down before writing the review. I have had it for 3 months now, and I have to say, this laptop is it. I have had 2 Alienware laptops before this and both had various issues that needed to be corrected, however this one is perfect, absolutely no issues at all NONE! The build is fully loaded top end CPU, RAM, Video Card, SSD 256 Boot and 3D Bundle. While it does seem a little high on the price side, you get what you pay for and this is an amazing rig. One mistake I made was getting Windows 8 pro. I reverted it to Windows 7 Pro OEM, which yields a much better experience. It is possible to get it back to a complete Alienware look and feel with Windows 7 Pro should you find yourself in the same situation. All the issues that I read in the reviews that were identified by others, I had no issues with. I think they got it right now. I can confidently say this will be my PC for at least the next 5 years.

my system is an M17 - i7 - 780m - ssd - full Hd, I love the performance of the machine but it would mean nothing to me if it didnt look this good! I feel sad that all other computer brands just try to look like apple, and they do, only they look and feel cheaper. The build quality on this Alienware is much better than most and the design has its personality. CONS: the screen :l The 17 inch model comes with a TN panel instead of the IPS one seen in the 14 and 18 model, I saw the 14" at a store and obviously take as given the rest are the same, so vertical viewing angles are not as good and for some reason I can spot "SCANLINES" on it, sort of like vertical interlaced refresh rate related artifacts, I had this problem on my m14x but not on my m17xR3, and its back. So bottom line, you cant go wrong with this, I am and have always been IN LOVE with alienware laptops but expect a not that great screen in an otherwise perfect package!

Alienware 17 long haul

I have owned the new Alienware 17 for about a year and a half (I got it right after they came out). And on the whole I bought the unit with a high level of skepticism as not only it was a new model but the customer feedback was not particularly high nor inspiring for the brand name (post selling to Dell). On the plus side, the machine has done exactly what I have asked of it, with little or no drama which is very good. I was looking for a laptop machine with desktop power at the time I was a college professor teaching IT classes (Linux, information security, digital forensics to name) and needy a beefy machine with gobs of horsepower. The hardware was up to the task and the design permitted the installation of an SSD alongside the HD. The rig while not cheap, is probably more than what the casual gamer would require. (if you are gaming, get or build a desktop!) I would recommend the build if you requirements are similar to mine.
