Over all, a pretty good computer for the money. Putting up with a slow hard drive and 1, 4gb stick of memory really slow this potiental âbeast of a computerâ down. I replaces the orginal hard drive with an 1tb ssd and addes an extra 4gb stick of memory in the empty memory slot and now tje xomputer runs fast. From power on to comppetely started is jist umder 6 seconds. Now the compiter is ready to do some work and gaming.
So I had the laptop for a week and its been pretty good. Although the battery life is bad, i would definitely trade battery life for performance because this laptop is a beast. But if you want to game and want to make it god level you should slap in 32 Gigs of Ram and a Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 for a better performance. With this upgrade i was able to play fortnite at medium/low settings.
This is a good low end laptop. It is upgradable. I added more memory and a nvme card (this is the best upgrade you can make). Runs super fast compared to the older i3 Lenovo (upgraded with ssd) I was using. I use it for work and for internet. It is not a gaming machine though light games may work, gaming laptops start out about 400 dollars more. This laptop is light weight and has decent quality screen. Con for my use is that it sits in my work truck and may be hot or cold depending on the weather and if I take it inside the house or hotel it has to get to room temperature for the touch pad to work properly, minus 1 star. But once it does it works well.
I'm guessing price is so low ($330) because of several bad reviews (runs hot, very slow, etc.) so it is not selling well. It comes with a 5400rpm HDD and only 4GB of RAM. Buyers knew it is equipped like this. Why would they expect it to be fast? It IS a great buy. When I first turned it on fan was running at max speed, lots of heat, CPU throttling back to protect itself. Add this to the slow drive and minimal RAM and its performance was abysmal. BIOS showed CPU base clock speed set stupidly high. I updated BIOS, problem solved, base clock now correct. CPU runs as designed, fan runs occasionally at normal speed when under above average load. Much better, but still slow. How can this laptop be improved at low cost? One of the better things about Dell is you can download the Service Manual for this computer and it shows you how to remove and install components with pictures and great directions. All you need is a couple of different sized Phillips screwdrivers. Please don't rely on YouTube wannabes. I installed a 256GB M.2 PCIe drive ($38) for the operating systems and replaced the HDD with a 256GB SSD ($30) for data storage. I installed a second 4GB DDR4 SODIMM ($19) for a total of 8GB 2400MHz RAM in dual-channel mode. I installed the removed HDD in a USB 3 external case ($9) and now have a 1TB portable drive for backup. With these upgrades this system is now equivalent to a system costing 3 times what I paid for the laptop and upgrade parts. (Prices don't include taxes or fees). I did clean installs of Windows 10 v1903 and Linux Mint Cinnamon v19.1 without any issues. I can boot into either one. Now this system is fast and reliable. I'm a happy internet surfer, movie watcher, and game player! (Don't expect to run super HD, fast action, multiplayer games on this machine. Duh!) One star taken off for bad BIOS and for not having an access panel for upgrades. You have to remove the entire bottom cover CAREFULLY. If you plan ahead, this is a one-time effort.
What stands out for me is the Ryzen 5 CPU w/Vega 8 graphics, the Licorice Black color, and the number pad on the keyboard. After I opened the box and configured Windows 10 Home, this Dell laptop did not run bad at all. Yes, it was a little slower than usual, but this is what I paid for, knowing that this would change after a couple of upgrades to this machine. I've seen the bad reviews for this laptop and I think these people either don't know what they're talking about or they got a lemon and should of returned it. Like the specifications say; this laptop only has 4GB of memory and it had a 1TB SATA Hard Drive. So far, I just replaced the hard drive, for a Sandisk SSD Ultra and this thing is moving along quite well. Browsing the web, is very smooth, boot-up is quick, apps start quickly as well. People have to remember that upgrading Windows 10 and other apps, etc., is very important for a smooth running machine. This laptop came with Win10 version 1803 I believe which had updates available for. Since then I upgraded to version 1903 which is what's current right now. So this will take a couple of days as the updates are available to you. Keep going back and look for them. With just 4 GB of memory, if I were an everyday user, I'd be very happy, but I will be upgrading that too at a later date. I gave this laptop 5 Stars because it out weighed the negatives of the SATA hard drive and the 4GB of memory that came with it, but it was still by far worth the money. I would like to Thank Walmart for providing this laptop at this price. Only you can do this for us. Appreciate it!
Screen is Awful for saying it is HD... Twisted Pair Junk from Dell. Putting a Spinning HDD with a Ryzen 5 APU is really dumb. Unless you like waiting 3 or 4 minutes for it to boot up.
I probably should have paid more attention to the bad reviews, this laptop is not the best. It gets very hot very fast, the battery life was maxed out at an hour and a half, and it's ridiculously slow. Very laggy, and bad graphic display. If you're looking for a good deal, i'd recommend saving your money for something a little less cheap.
This was a birthday gift that i hoped would be nice to use for games. This laptop is garbage ive tried wired or wireless its connecting to internet but getting speeds too low to do anything ive updated everything and after 2 days trying to get this machine to do anything its going in the trash bin. My phone works more efficiently than this
After initial updates created a recovery USB drive. Took over 4 hrs. Web pages loaded like it was using dial-up service. Tested speed on FIOS. Wireless was downloading at 4 Mbs. Used Ethernet cable. Download at 4 Mbs. I read the other reviews where Dell explains all the possible fixes for the possible problems. How about shipping a product that doesn't need to be fixed before you can use it? Great return service from Walmart. Bought a Lenovo that worked perfect right from the box.
