So you play lots of games... you hear about this super computer... you finally jump out and get one! Well... the first surprise you get is this gian-normous box... not your regular computer packed in a box... but a box worthy of an 18 wheeler in the world of computer packing! Double packed... I was not even worried about damage! And this puppy is wider, taller, deeper than your average CPU box... so the footprint is bigger... all to take care of the performance you are expecting... and wow... when you have it automatically re-configure your games... well... let's just say even a guy who works with graphics was impressed!! Almost real life visual of far far away places and crisp real vision when at a location. Very impressive package... all stats in gaming were increased... fps, no lag what-so-ever, video sharpness... made the old games feel and play like new again... all of that made the experience excellent and made my concerns on spending this much go away... worth it totally!!!

This was the first (and last) time that I purchased an Alienware, and I was quite excited when I received it. On the surface, it looked sleek and fancy and looked incredible. Naturally, I had purchased an Alienware with high performance expectations given the hefty price tag. Immediately upon setting it up, I installed several games, and turned up the graphics settings on them to test out the abilities of my new Alienware. Approximately 15 minutes into playing, my computer completely shut off. No blue screen of death or anything; the power completely cut off. After several more attempts with similar results, I can began to run various tests to figure out the source of the issue. Turns out that the computer was overheating, and was shutting itself off as a failsafe. I tried adjusting the pre-installed Alienware Thermal Controller, using 3rd party fan controllers, and turning down the graphics card settings in attempts to cut down on the amount of heat generated, all without success. For whatever reason, either due to poor design, improper installation, or the particular graphics card that Dell allowed me to "upgrade" to, this computer is incapable of running anything without overheating and shutting down. Something as simple as playing a Youtube video beyond 15 minutes brings the GPU thermal sensor in excess of 70 degrees celsius. Overall, I have been extremely disappointed with this computer, especially in light of how much it cost. One would have expected much better quality control.

I've had the R4 for almost a month now. I haven't been able to find a game that won't run perfectly at full graphics. I am surprised because I didn't completely deck it out as I am no longer a competitive gamer(just a weekend warrior now :D). I opted for the 2X500gb ssd, single Nvidia 680, 16gb RAM, and the quad core oc'd to 4.1ghz. The one thing I was surprised to find is the lack of heat spreaders on the RAM - temps seem fine even while playing beta crysis 3(which is so sexy, buy it when it comes out). I guess the only thing that may make prospective buyers hesitate is the price. After pricing out a similar system online, it turns out the Aurora R4 was only a few hundred bucks more. I think this is completely worth the piece of mind I get with the warranty. I also think that just the look and feel of the case and exclusivity of Alienware products speaks for itself. This is the first desktop that I have elected to purchase instead of building myself(since 6th grade, anyway), and I could not be happier.

I have always wanted an Alienware computer. I wanted a no hassle gaming machine. I wanted a computer that could handle anything I threw at it and I didn't want to go through the effort to buy all the parts online and have someone throw it together for me. I wanted to make sure that my gaming PC didn't have any hardware compatibility issues. So far I am very impressed with my Alienware computer. A lot of people feel that they are paying too much for an Alienware computer and I agree that they are overpriced. However, I can't argue the fact that the build quality and performance has been more then satisfactory and I have had no issues with my PC. There is plenty of room to upgrade which I like as well. I feel my computer needs an SDD and that would make it run so much smoother. Dell was asking too much for it but I can upgrade that on my own. Great PC, great looking PC and well built. I can say that i'm glad I have one and would consider another one in the future.

Great PC, the Model is built with percision and perfection. iv'e had mine for 2 years now and the only problem i have had is getting one sooner. The light at the back makes it so easy to re-attach your ports. the cooling is just umbelivable i even have it down to 20%. in the summer it hardly knows what heat is?; on the inside the cables are all held together without force, the parts just slot into place and the way the case is desigend makes the hot air flow away. my room is the warmest in the house and i'm the one who's having no problems. upgrading parts is a pice of cake as you unlock then slide off the side Pannel and hey presto it's the easiest tower to upgrade and replace parts. i now have all my Games on Ultra Graphics, iv'e picked up 24GB of Memory from Aria to upgrade, yet again upgrading is amazing. i would never put this PC down as it's simply one of the best. thoughout the whole villige my Pc always comes up as the Mean machie! "i call her Sindy"

Aurora R4 Problems - Right out of the box

I purchased an Alienware Aurora R4 system on 4/11/13. Immediately out of the box, the Command Center thermal controller displayed either 32F or 149F on the three sensors, the CPU pump showed failed, and the fan displayed a low RPM. Also, after I shut down the system, the front lights would stay on until I unplugged the power and discharged by pressing the power button. I have had Alienware attempt to fix this issue 3 times now. They have replaced the power supply, master I/O board and light controller. Both the I/O board and controller have been replaced twice. Also, the front bezel simply fell off the computer, and was replaced. Alienware asked me to install the latest version of Command Center 3.5, which doesn't work. I had to go back to 2.7 just to get it to run properly. So, over a year and still no solution. The only good thing is the computer actually runs, and is fairly fast. I cannot recommend the Aurora R4 to anybody until they fix these issues.

I have never felt compelled to write about a product that I have purchased, however I am extremely happy about my system. I had waited for about 8 years to make my puchase of the Alieanware Aurora R4 system. I compared it to everything that was out there. I almost built my own system even but I just had to have the alienware casing. When I think back through all my systems, this one has made me the happiest. I have owned 3 versions of the XPSs and several custom systems... This is by far my favorit. If you have always looked but never made the leap from air cooled systems to liquide cooled. Then you have no idea of how nice the noise reduction is. This has been the best system yet! No issues from ordering to gaming... everything pluged in and played well together. Incuding the two headsets that never played well together on any of the other systems. No, I dont try and wear the two headsets at the same time. One set is for movies and one set is for the gaming. I am an extremely satisfied customer of the Alienware system!

I purchased the R4 for gaming on April 19 2014 and received it 10 days later on April 29 2014. The first computer I received tanked after just weeks of use. Turned out the video card was having overheating problems. Dell scheduled a tech to come to my house and replace it but I was informed later the video card in my system was out of stock and they were waiting for a new shipment to arrive. They were also going to replace the motherboard. Well because my order was less then 30 days I had the option of a full computer exchange instead of parts replacement. The second computer was ordered on May 13 and arrived on May 22 2014. So far it has worked flawlessly in all aspects without a single crash yet. Just for your information the R4 with the Radion HD8990 will run battlefield 4 on Ultra settings with about 130 Fps average with peaking at 179 Fps. However Arma 3 is such a beast of a program It will run at 60 Fps on ultra settings and down to about 40 Fps on multiplayer servers. Turns out Arma 3 is CPU intensive and not GPU intensive.

I use this thing daily to crunch massive datasets, running computationally expensive algorithms on the data. While playing Battlefield 4 on ultra settings.. no slowdown oncesoever at a solid 60fps. The computer case itself is incredibly sexy, with the simple act of turning it on you're greeted with the noise of a jet engine (but nowhere near as loud) and it just sounds.. so satisfying. Runs right through pre-boot bios tests like nothing, with the windows login prompt appearing approximately 15 seconds after hitting the power button. It's everything I could have asked for in a computer. Sure, the computer cost a bit more than the parts themselves are worth. But you're not paying for that, you're paying for the brand and the support. And it's so much easier to answer people that ask what computer I have with "Alienware" than explaining what exact parts I built the computer with. People know these are top-of-the-line no matter what.
