Gaming Beast

As its my hobby and small part time business I have used and sold many Alienware laptops. Its always my best mate. I am a IT Hardware professional having knowledge on to Chip levels. I would blindly recommend Alienware to any person who don't speak stupid " Build a desktop for less price" Why can you carry your desktop in your backpack around with you??? So weight is not a problem at all You should expect this weight if you require power. I really liked the Old Alienware 18 R2 as it has more HDD connections Separate HDMI IN and OUT. Low profile as compared to this one. I have fixed hundreds of laptop and like to do modification (no modding i.e Bios or GPU) like add Finger Print Scanner, Add touch Panel etc etc. I can say Its extremely bulky and could be easily made in much low profile.

Gamer Games With One Massive Problem

....IMO... I have owned my Dell Alienware 18x for 2 years now, first year i complained because its very heavy to pack around but it's built very well. I love the brutal power behind this laptop, powers threw everything I have thrown at it with my online games. Tearing apart the laptop is easy to go in for cleaning or upgrades if you need. My ONE and ONLY complaint is that with all the thought and care in design with the power and almost perfect beauty is that my PORTS ARE NOT LIGHTED!!.. This is something I noticed and the more I think about it, the more it annoys me because If you are reaching into you're pocket that deep then everything should be perfect. minor thing that soon I will be modding to blend in color change lights for all my ports.

Very stable. Small issue bugs me with external usb wifi antenna's not working but in terms of gaming NVidia has come along way with drivers being more optimized for SLI. Came with a hitachi hard drive which I removed and replaced with 2 scorpio black 750gb's in raid 0. Will upgrade the memory and install an msata card later. Dual 770m's SLI 3GB each runs most games on ultra with butter smooth framerates. Call of duty ghosts runs smooth as well as assassins creed iv. Pcsx2 runs great with avx plugin. Dolphin emulator runs great. Chassy feels very solid nothing in or outside this computer feels cheap like other notebooks that claim to be gamer but have keyboard ghosting issues or overheating issues. I can game for hours on this laptop without having to break for cooldown though I have to give me hand a rest after a while lol. I am very picky with framerates and having to lower graphic settings but not in this machine it chews up and spits out anything you throw at it. +1 dell good job!

I am rating the product I have compared to the new design. After I heard that there was a new Alienware laptop coming out, I became excited! Being an existing M18x owner, I was very happy with my laptop, but decided to give it to my girlfriend as a gift and just buy a new one. Unfortunately, once I saw the design of the new Alienware laptops, (missing some serious signature features, even if they may only be cosmetic) I decided that I would not buy one until they brought back a design that made an Alienware stand out, and not look like just a fancy Dell laptop with pretty lights. The one I own has the Alien Head power button, and the full front light panel. It makes for a great conversation starter, and just looking at this design makes other non-Alienware owners curious as to just how powerful it actually is. This version looks like it eats high powered desktop models for breakfast! The new one looks like a laptop waiting to evolve into the old model. Definitely dropped the ball on this design.

I recently bought this Alienware 18 for my son in college (IT Major). Even though I'm a "computer guy" in my own regard (my first PC was an Altair 8800 that was replaced by a TRS80-III), it's not hard for me to accept that he is now the acknowledged expert in the family. I can only offer here what was expressed to me the day he opened the package (it was a surprise) and now again, a few weeks later. Day 1: WOW! Day 28: MASSIVE WOW! I think it's best illustrated by the following anecdote: I asked him if he had taken it to work yet...and if, on that day any work actually got done. Basically he told me he had people from all over the building making a trip to check out the new machine. All were blown away. This is a building full of IT guys/girls. I bought my own (Alienware 14) a couple of weeks later. I received it a few days ago and haven't recovered yet. Please note that I can't provide a service tag number to make this a "Verified Buyer" review because the laptop was shipped directly to my son.

I have been a long time looker of the Alienware laptop line. I never purchased because I was of the belief that when you see a similar laptop, with similar specs, it is just as good as the high priced Alienware. How wrong I was. I just received my Alienware 18, the new 2013 version, today. I am an Executive in the computer industry. I can tell you within the first few hours of ownership, this laptop is something otherworldly. Cliché? Maybe, Honest? Absolutely! The Alienware 18 is crafted extremely well, the screen is incredible, they keyboard response is perfect, the lighting is amazing. The performance of the processor and GPU's is nothing short of stunning. There is no flex in the keyboard, no noise from the chasis, no light leakage from the screen. I could write all day about what an incredible laptop this is, but you won't believe it until you get your hands on one! I am extremely hard to please on laptops. Spend the money, they do not come any better than this.

2014/5 18"Alienware R Windows 8.1 Pro 32MB Ram 1TB HDD@7200 and 256MB SSD 2X2GB NVidia GTX 860M After much debate and online comparisons I chose my 18" Alien, and from the moment the suite case arrived and got lugged in the door (yes it comes in a box the size of a suite case) I was astounded. I've had 2 other Dell laptops before which were supposedly "TOP OF THE LINE" but as Sinead O'Connor sings.. "NOTHING COMPARES", and trust me I've looked at current "Gamers" out there, sorry, not in the same league. It's been a year of every day use, from spreadsheets to WORLD OF WARCRAFT, and with 9 apps running this beast keeps accelerating. Its almost daring me to find it's limits.. "yeah bring it on sukka I'll show ya" Ok, bottom line, this is not a toy this is a computer that rivals a top of the line desktop. With any current software it keeps on running, there is no bottoming out. It's been dropped its been left running for days it just never says NO!

A great workstation on the go

Forget about games. This laptop is an excelent choise for those who want a workstation in a laptop form. Although heavy to carry around, this can be negleted when start working with it. Fast cpu (for a laptop), 8 threads, 32GB Ram, dual SLI GTX780 cards, fast SSDs, a second hard disk for storage, bluray, the list goes on. I can run 3D applications, simulate and render on this laptop, like with any mid-ranged desktop workstation. The battery drains quickly, but that's expected with this power. The only bad thing about this laptop is the low resolution of the build in screen. Although normally you would want to connect with an external monitor to work, the onboard screen's 1920x1080 resolution is lower than my Samsung's phone and pretty much unusable for apps like 3DSMax or Maya. But, when you connect this laptop to a propper external monitor, you'll forget you work on a laptop. Highly recomended on proffesionals who work in the DCC field and are on a budget...

This is my second Alienware computer, the first on was still current after 5 years and this one should be the same. Of course the journey was not smooth. The one that I had delivered initially had a problem with the screen that was intermittant and keep dropping resolution on me. Dell tried to fix it and could not re-create the problem and sent the computer back to me. When I got it back it started the same problem again. I contacted dell and they offered in home service this time. After 20 minutes they realized that they could not replace the screen and called me back right away. Dell informed me that they would replace the computer completely for me. I have been a dell customer for the last 6 to 7 years and I will continue to be a dell customer, they did a great job, new system works great and the service was fantastic and friendly.!

I recently bought a new Alienware 18 laptop with an i7-4900MQ & dual GTX 780M graphics. It is the most amazing mobile gaming machine I have ever seen. I can max out almost every game I throw at it. I am an extreme gamer with over 100 hardcore game titles installed in this laptop so I have thoroughly tested my rig. My Alienware 18 got a Passmark rating of 5525 & a 3D Mark Fire Strike score of 8078. The build quality is excellent. Extremely high quality screen, & very sturdy hinges. Great venting with plenty of airflow that keep the temps low enough that performance stays stable even during long game sessions. The lighting looks awesome, & isn't so bright that it interferes with viewing the display. My only problem I have had is I ordered this laptop with Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. I hated that OS so I reverted back to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. That is why I gave an average rating for the OS. Now everything is great with Windows 7 installed!
