We just bought this system for our house and it was pretty easy to install. The picture quality is pretty good and the software is user friendly. We ordered 2 more cameras for the inside of our house so hopefully that works out just as well. Much better than systems I've installed in the past with running wires and such. So far a very good purchase.
I bought this system about 6 weeks ago. The initial set up was not as "intuitive" as my Pheonix 2 system, but this system does far more. The customer support was a huge help and had me up and running very quickly. I am still playing with some of the settings, but had it running well enough to use in no time at all. I am very happy with the system so far and am sure I will be for a long time.
I bought this about a month ago. Setup was really easy. Good quality cameras. I am having an issue with the app crashing and also losing my cameras on occasion. I think i need to move the DVR and and WIFI adapter closer to the cameras. I have tested and this seems to fix the problem. If i ever want to add more cameras, then i would probably have the same issue. I wish the cables on the DVR and WIFI adapter were a little longer.
Over all I am happy with this system. Have not had a lot of time to play around with the DVR settings. Still need to setup email alerts. Has everything i was looking for.
Bought through Best Buy shipping was fast but box was damaged. Pretty easy set up as cameras come paired and don't require Wi-Fi. Recommend downloading the manuals online as the quick install guide in box doesn't have sufficient instructions. Picture quality and FPS is ok during the day, night vision is not as good but useable.
DO UPDATE the software via an Ethernet cable to your modem, the software that mine came with pre-installed was an older version that caused it to reboot every few hours and erase the motion activation settings. The new version fixes the reboot issue and updates the motion sensitivity setting, plus I can now use a wireless mouse. The motion activation setting now is less sensitive to the point someone can walk through half the screen and it won't activate (even set a high sensitivity). See attached photo. Hence, you should run the system to manually record all the time.
Hard drive is quiet but you can hear it write to the disk sometimes, mine occasionally buzzes sometimes too, which I'm not sure is normal or not. The software is pretty user friendly. Defender should provide instructions on passwords, there are restrictions to the hardware and app but it's not listed anywhere, you just get an error message when you try to set it up.
I get full strength strong video at 50ft away through 1 exterior wall. Once you go past 50ft, I find the camera cuts in and out for a few seconds every few hours. Not a big deal though. If the camera has to go through 2 exterior walls, the camera will black out a lot more often for longer periods of time. Hence you need to really plan out where stick the camera. For me that meant I couldn't stick it on the back side of detached garage.
Overall a good solid system for $570 and better than the other wireless security cameras I've tried before. You will need to know how to install it (which takes a full day) and be ok with its short comings.
My last system was a lorex and I was constantly contacting there support people for help with play back issues, plus the night time recording was not as advertised.
I was updating the unit constantly I even sent it in for them to fix but I continued to have issues. Then the warranty expired and so did there desire to help me, they didn't care that during that warranty time the unit had failed several times :(
Now I have the Defender and I am happy to say that I no longer have playback issues the night time recording is awesome and there support team is fantastic.
And a special "Thank You" to Darrielle for all your help and support in getting me
what I needed to keep my WHD1T4B4 in tip top shape.
This is the best packaged item I've ever received.
Set up wizard was super easy, wireless signal for the camera's is strong and night vision is great.
I'm still playing with the settings but the contrast between light and dark areas on the same camera is either to dark or too washed out.
Haven't contacted customer service yet but will for help with this issue
I have other wired Defender systems but these are my first wireless ones. I bought two of these to provide good coverage inside. It sometimes takes a few minutes for a camera to be online once powered up but the wireless range has been adequate for my application. Great way to keep an eye on the dog when we're out.
Bought it several months ago and didn't set it up other than just through the window of the house looking out and in the same room as the DVR. They all worked fine.
This weekend I mounted two cameras outside approximately 25 feet from where the DVR is located (and its a regular house with basic walls and doors and no items that may interrupt a wireless signal). One of the camera's live video signal immediately turned blue and the other wouldn't get signal back to the DVR. The one with the signal loss was literally outside the house and 3 feet away from the one inside the window that worked. I couldn't get either of the two outside ones to work properly. The two in the room with the DVR still worked properly.
Did a firmware upgrade to the DVR as per the websites instructions hoping that would resolve any problems and now nothing works, I can log into DVR and access all the adjustable functions but can't see, or pair cameras. The info window says cameras are offline??? Tried everything in support troubleshooting to pair cameras, even one that I placed 3 feet way from DVR and nothing works. Also can't find anything under support for "cameras offline". Will chat with support when they are open and see if they can help me.
I will update this review with an updated detailed, fair and honest review depending on the the support received to see if they can resolve the issues. I hope that they help me and can report back with positive results and a positive review and confirm or not if the company and support stands behind their product
I will also update the review and comment on the extended one year warranty which Defender says they give if you leave a review. I trust this will not be an issue.
