Demons, gargoyles, and romance oh my!!! JLA provides another heart stopping, kick butt, sexy read with White Hot Kiss. Layla, half demon and half Warden, has been raised with the Wardens for seventeen years. Her best friend, and secret crush, is Zayne a hot 21 year old Warden. Layla is constantly fighting her demon side until she meets Roth, a sexy and dangerous demon. As more and more demons appear topside, Layla learns the truth about her past with the help of Roth. Torn between her loyalty to the Wardens, and Zayne, and being herself with Roth, Layla has to make some tough decisions, especially when her life depends on it. *This is such a great beginning to the series! I'm so torn between Zayne and Roth!*

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Wonderful story that was fun and fast paced. Jennifer Armentrout has done it again, pretty much everything she writes is golden, and White Hot Kiss is no exception! Opening Sentence: There was a demon in McDonald's. The Review: Layla has never really fit in. She was raised by wardens who are a race of gargoyles that hunt demons. But Layla is only half warden and her other half is demon. While there are a few wardens that treat her kindly, like Zayne, the boy she grew up with and has been madly in love with ever since she was a little girl. Most of the warden's fear her and keep her at a distance, and they should since a slight kiss of her lips can suck out their souls. She has fought her demon urges her whole life, but the temptation has only heightened over the years. Soul sucking isn't Layla's only talent, she can also sense demons and has the ability to tag them (or in other words make them light up like a Christmas tree, so any warden can easily find them). She has been "tagging" demons ever since she was 13 years old, but she sticks to just lower level demons. But there has been a surge in demon activity lately and Layla runs into a upper level demon. Roth is gorgeous, dangerous, and someone that Layla should steer clear of, but that's easier said than done. Not to mention the fact that Roth doesn't have a soul, so kissing him is not dangerous, well at least not to his health. Layla always thought that demons were the enemy and that you can never trust one, but the more time she spends with Roth, the more she starts to question everything she has been taught. Everyone seems to be keeping secrets from her and it turns out that there is a lot more at stake then Layla could ever imagine and she is the key to saving the world. I adored Layla. She has a great personality with lots of spunk and attitude, but she is also a really good person. She has spent her whole life wishing that she could just be a full blooded Warden, it would make things so much easier for her. But I love that even though she has had it rough, she never gives up and even though she will hide her nature from others she always strays true to herself. I just loved Layla and being inside her head was very entertaining. Zayne is such a great guy. He has been like an older brother to Layla even since she came to live with him. He is the only person that has fully accepted her for who she is and doesn't want her to be anything different. They are best friends and he is the one person Layla can always rely on to be there for her. Of course there is also some serious attraction between the two, but it is impossible for them to ever be together. Zayne is so sweet and I am hopeful that we get to see a lot more of him in the coming books. Roth is your average hot bad boy, well except for the fact that he's a demon. It's in his nature to be deceiving and cunning, but Layla seems to pull out the best in him. They have some pretty amazing chemistry and I can see why she had such a hard time resisting him, I would too. He is charming, funny, and did I mention that he is just totally dreamy! I instantly loved Roth and the more I got to know him the more I liked him. In true Jennifer Armentrout fashion, White Hot Kiss is an excellent read. Filled with adventure, hot guys, and a witty protagonist, this is sure to please YA paranormal fans across the board. It is very fast paced and was pretty much impossible to put down. Armentrout does a wonderful job implementing steamy romance, but not overdoing it since this is a young adult novel. I loved the characters and just the whole idea was great. The ending was pretty torturous, so now I am dying to read the next book, but luckily it comes out later this year. One of the things I love most about Armentrout is that she can really write anything and it is amazing. She can do any genre and her works range from YA to Adult, I just think that is impressive and she will forever be one of my favorite authors. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun young adult paranormal story. Notable Scene: He dipped his chin again, looking terribly innocent. "You've never been kissed before, have you?" "That's so not your business." I folded my arms as Roth waited for an answer. "I think it's obvious. I can't kiss anyone. You know, the whole soul-sucking thing makes it difficult." "Not if you're kissing someone who doesn't have a soul." I made a face. "And why would I kiss someone who doesn't-" He moved unbelievably fast. I didn't even have a chance to react. One second he was standing a good three feet away from me and the next his hands were gently clasping my cheeks. There was an instant when I wondered how something so strong and deadly could hold anything so carefully, but then he tilted my head back and lowered his own. My heart rate kicked into hyperdrive. He wasn't going to kiss me. No way- Roth kissed me. FTC Advisory: Harlequin Teen provided me with a copy of White Hot Kiss. No goody bags, sponsorships, "material connections," or bribes were exchanged for my review.
I received this free A...
I received this free ARC book from my work at the public library at the beginning of the month and snatched it up in a heartbeat! I was so excited to see this book! I just read the prequel and was wanting to continue the story, so this was a God send. We met Layla very briefly in the prequel novel, but I absolutely adored her in this novel. She knows she's not the most liked person in her world. She can't fit in with the humans, demons or the Wardens. Her normal is not very normal. But being able to tag demons for the Wardens gives her something to do and a "responsibility" in the Warden world. And Roth. Oh Roth. Love me some sexy, bad-news demon! But he definitely wasn't like the other demons and the reader could tell right away. The way he handled Layla was so sweet, but also so hot at times. Zayne was cute, but also annoying for me. He was the "big brother" but most of the time it was also jealousy. And he was being petty for some of the novel. Petty and childish. But he loves Layla - anyone can see that. He just has to figure out who he wants to help the most: Layla or the Wardens. I have to say, as well, that since I know JLA is a huge fan of the show "Supernatural", I most definitely laughed out loud when she referenced that show! Amazing book. Amazing new series that I think will capture a lot of readers attention. This is a new genre with a different "supernatural" creature that might intrigue a new audience. Definitely a great novel and I cannot wait for more! So sad that I have to wait forever - specially since I got this a few months ahead of time!

This was a first reads.White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout is a great, well-written book that effectively combines romance and fantasy.Layla feels like a misfit. She is half demon and half Warden, a gargoyle being who can choose to look human. To make things worse, she can pull the soul out of anyone with a single kiss. She loves Zayne, the son of the Warden that adopted her, but she cannot get as close to him as she would like. Then she meets Roth, a full-blooded demon who doesn't have a soul to worry about. Layla has to come to terms with who and what she is, as well as participate in a good vs. evil battle.White Hot Kiss is a great read for any teen or young adult who like to read about first love, demons, and gargoyles.
This was my first book...
This was my first book by Jennifer L. Armentrout and I have to say I'm really confused right now. I mean, I likes it. A lot. I finished it in a couple of midnight hours. I liked the story (I'm a sucker for paranormal most of the time), I liked the plot, the way she used the different creatures in her story... It was a nice read I didn't want to finish. And there's Roth, who is ma' cup o'tea any day of the year. Roth was probably THE reason I finished this book so fast. Still, there's something nagging me in the head. I think this would be a better book if Armentrout had taken a little more time (and pages) to explore the story. It is the first book in The Dark Elements trilogy, but I like it when my first book leave me with the feeling of a fantastic new door opened in front of me, waiting for me to cross into this new dimension. WHK didn't do that, but it didn't make me want to run away. It's more like an in-between: I want to know more, but I don't need the information now, nor will I suffer if I don't have it. I felt like some characters didn't match their said personalities, too many parts of important stuff got minimal descriptions while the kisses could have 4 paragraphs... Small details that trigger pet-peeves. However, I DID like the book (hence the 4 starts). I just think it could have been much better (or maybe my expectations where to high, seeing as this author is adored by so many people).
