    • A. No, this laptop does not have a webcam. But from personal experience, this is a good thing. Most webcams used in laptops are not high quality. I would highly reccomend a logitech quick cam pro. Item number for walmart is 960-000045. Probally the best you can get.

    Nice Surprise

If you don't care about media card reader and webcam, this is hard to beat as an all purpose laptop. It's fast, Windows 7 intalled a plus, and the graphics were my biggest pleasant surprise. Handles World of Warcraft at medium/high settings like a breeze and will play even the tougher games - some at low settings like Crysis, but you can still play. Comparison shoppers be advised that these Compaq CQ62's are not neccesarily the same as ones reviewed on other sites. The 'WM' I assume means Walmart and the differences can be significant (early CG62s were NOT dual core for example, so be sure you are comparing apples with apples on sites like Cnet). Couldn't be happier with this purchase, and as a new piece it knocks the socks off of similar refurbs you may find on newegg or circuitcity websites.

I bought this laptop on a dads and grads sale, and it was well worth the price. Pros: * The laptop is a dark grayish black color with some sort of triangle pattern running across it, which isn't really a plus or a minus on appearance. But the advantage of the pattern is that it doesn't collect fingerprints easily, which makes it a good laptop for everyday school use. * The screen is LED backlit, not LCD, which means no lines running across the screen and no visible flicker, providing clear and beautiful video watching or game playing. * HD widescreen screen configuration: The resolutions supported by the screen peak at 1366x768, but this is HD widescreen, which means that any HD movies or TV shows will play in the entire screen, without any black bands at the top or bottom. The screen's layout maximizes usable space. * 3 GB DDR3-1333 RAM: This is almost as high as you'll get for this price range, the highest being 4 GB. But the important factor is that the RAM is DDR3, which makes it much faster than an equal or greater amount of DDR2 RAM. Plus, 3 GB is more than enough for most applications. * AMD Athlon II X2 P320 Dual-core processor: Having a dual core processor decreases the likeliness of the computer hanging or freezing if you're running high-processor-use applications, like movies, video-editing, or games. * ATI HD 4200 graphics card: For a laptop, that is a surprisingly good graphics card. It'll play Blu-ray quality movies without a glitch, and even run some games at the lowest graphics quality. I was able to get CnC Red Alert 3 going at low quality without a hitch. * DVD burner: This is what pushed me to buy this laptop instead of a more expensive one. This burner can read and burn dual-layered DVDs (DVDs with data on both sides), and has LightScribe support. If you buy the right DVDs, you can *burn* the labels onto the discs directly. I haven't tried it yet, but the OS recognizes the LightScribe functionality. Cons: * No webcam: I thought this was standard on laptops nowadays. A little disappointing, but nothing I didn't know already. Even so, for $15-20, you can get a very decent external webcam. * Touchpad: I personally much prefer IBM's old red pointing stick, so my opinion is biased, but the touchpad on this laptop is really bad. The touchpad is flush with the rest of the laptop and is therefore difficult to locate without looking down at your fingers, and the button (not buttons, mind you) is difficult to depress and keep depressed. I found myself double-clicking when I wanted to click-and-drag. Do what I did and buy yourself a decent wireless USB mouse for $15-20. * Lack of external ports: A variety of ports, again, I thought was standard on most laptops. There are only 3 USB ports and nothing else, which, when using a mouse and a flash drive, doesn't leave you with much more expansion options. There are no media card readers, no Firewire/IEEE ports, no eSATA ports and no PS2 ports. Your only video output is VGA. It's really a stripped-down laptop, but again, nothing I didn't know when I bought it. Other points of interest: * Comes with a full set of games: If you're one to get bored of playing minesweeper 80 thousand times in a row but don't want to spend any real money on games, this laptop comes with many casual games, including my favorite, chess. * 64-bit OS: This fact alone makes the laptop much faster than any 32-bit machine, which is a BIG plus. * Comes with HP Advisor: Not really useful to me, so I disabled it, but for a novice computer user just trying to perform basic functions, the HP Advisor can help you get around your computer.

Pros: The newest mainstream AMD vision package makes this laptop really powerful for a dirt cheap price. Plenty fast enough for the basics (internet, email, music, movies, etc) Able to run any source game (half life 2, team fortress 2) at full resolution on highs without a problem. Cons: bloatware bloatware bloatware.... be prepared to sit for 2 hrs uninstalling all the bloatware that comes with this laptop. The battery life is miserable... but then again, are you really going to use it for more than 3 hrs without plugging it in... Other thoughts: Although once you are done cleaning this thing up you have one cheap powerhouse... because honestly, you are getting quite alot for $400!

This notebook definitely meets my expectations superseded by it's price! The only reason my overall is one star short is because of it's 2.1GHz processor, but for most users this won't even be noticeable. Coupled with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, specs enough for the most experienced user, with a price of a starter model for those who are not as experienced. I would recommend this for almost all computer users. Added bonus is that it's RAM is upgradable to 8GB for when the time comes to do so. Find the full specs at HP: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02159506&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN Happy Buying!

I just got this laptop tonight. I wasn't even planning on getting a laptop but the salesman at WalMart convinced me it was such a good deal! :) So far I like everything (I have had it about 5 hours). The only thing I don't like is all the Compaq/HP/Norton/etc software that comes on it. It's like a digital advertisement device! ;) So I have spent the last couple of hours uninstalling all the useless stuff that came with it. As I uninstall software the startup gets faster and faster.
