Awesome. No more ice
It works best with things that are already cold but will bring everything to a good cold tempature but takes a little longer than a refrigerator. May even bring ice crystals to some liquids. I love it. Been using it for years. Fuse may need replaced once in a while. 7.5 amp. Hard to find but just call coleman. Well worth the money and no more money for ice unless you don't have an electric connection

not a good selection
This cooler seemed to achieve only about a 15 degree temperature differential. The 12 volt connector failed on the second day.It has a little spring inside to engage the plunger when it's plugged into an outlet and the spring flattened out on it's second insertion.Overall, this product does not perform as advertised.I returned it within four days of my purchase.

performs better than expected

I just wanted something to keep in my semi that would keep bottled water cool, and prevent sandwich meat and cheese from spoiling. I had been using a Coleman chest cooler filled with ice (in which the ice lasted about four days), but emptying the water after the ice melted was inconvenient and cumbersome. I calculated the cost of ice for a year versus the cost of the Coleman PowerChill, and even if the cooler only lasted a year, it would clearly cost less than continuing to purchase ice. I placed some blue shop towels inside the cooler to absorb condensation or incidental spills, and added some packets of desiccant. I reversed the position of the door opening so that the cooling vents would be facing outward when I placed the cooler under the sleeper bunk in my truck. I placed a two-by-four under each side of my bunk platform to raise the bunk enough so that the cooler would slide underneath. It fits perfectly! I am so very pleased with this product because it actually freezes my bottled water, keeps meats and cheeses very cold, and because it fits under my bunk, there is no floor space wasted in an already scaled-down living environment.

Great Product!

We purchased this cooler for, and just got back from, a 16 day family vacation across the Desert Southwest and California. We used it to keep various lunch meats, drinks and cheese fresh for daily lunch picnics. Our trip included a daylight drive through the heart of Death Valley (I think that is about as severe a test as it can get) and multiple days in the deserts of West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Everything we took stayed fresh and cold. Several people have posted that it drains batteries rather fast. I was careful to unplug the cooler anytime we stopped for more than 30 minutes or so but one time I accidentally left it plugged in for about 4 hours. My van started with no problem. One hotel we used did not provide a refrigerator so the AC power cord was a great bonus. If you are looking for thermoelectric cooler, you should give this Coleman a serious look; it has worked great for us!

Love it!

I got this powered ice chest about 5-6 years ago and have used it about 12 times a year, sometimes for a week or more. It finally bit the dust just as I was starting my last trip. I went ahead and threw in some freezer packs since the trip would only take one day and when we reached our destination, I got online and ordered another for site-to-store purchase. I love it! No ice, no mess, just put drinks, snacks, fruit, etc. in and plug it into the cigarette lighter and go. It even comes with an ac-dc converter for use in the house for parties or condos/hotels when traveling. It's light enough for me to lift in and out of our van and carry for a short distance (20 feet) and I am a 65+ female not in particularly good shape.
I'm deployed and the rules are no refridgerators in the rooms they provide us to live in during the deployement. So this was a great way to have something in my room to keep drinks cold. thanks for providing a means of getting this great little cooler. thanks again

1. No. Ours does not. When plugged in will cool to the max in 3 hrs. If the temp is 80 degrees F, the cooler will be about 40 degrees F. On average the cooler will be about 40 degrees F.
by 8888willy
2. Not that I am aware of... Chrissy, if you desire to have such a switch on any unit you purchase, I would suggest contacting Coleman and ask them what products include such a device...
by BobnJen
3. I don't think so. It is made to automatically keep inside temp cooler than room temp.
by rabbittracks
4. No, it has to be unplugged.
by GardeneGal
5. i dont see any switches at all on this cooler
by atmmt
6. No. You could plug it into a timer if that would help.
by Louie222
7. The Coleman PowerChill does not have a temperature cutoff switch, nor does it have an adjustment switch for greater or lesser cooling capabilities. You plug it in, it's on; you unplug it, it's off.
by Sweetness543
8. No. It's not needed, as it never gets cold enough to freeze. If ice does collect on the heat-sink fins inside the top, turn it off for 5 minutes, and it melts off. It will be about 32 degrees cooler inside, than the outside air around it.
by JkwFox
9. No, this item does not have a temperature cutoff switch. It is recommended to keep cooler full so items will not freeze. Not for use with ice. Water will damage motor.
by TruckerSpouse
10. It does not and runs continuously, altho, not noisily. If you use it continuously, you should open it a couple of times a day so it does not freeze up and, especially, do not keep it outside running in cold weather since it cools to a certain number of degrees below current temperature (I forget exactly how many, but it's about 20-30).
by MomAtlanta1972
11. No it only cools to 40 degrees cooler than the outside temp. so if the air outside the cooler is 80 than the cooler will cool to about 40

9. No, it does not. A friend told me they had one that cooled and warmed and sometimes they got the connection wrong and arrived at their destination with cooked contents when it was supposed to be cooling. I pretty much have access to microwave ovens when I travel so I'm glad I didn't get the heating one.
