I purchased this item in April 2013. Put it right up. That was a breeze. Loved it! Put it away until yesterday 8/31/13 I removed it from the carry bag and proceeded to spread it out to pop up when I noticed one of the middle arms just fell & was broken. Then I noticed the very top was shattered & all of the middle frame structure was broken. Taking it back & hopefully will at least get a store credit, as I want one of these but not this model. It was stored proper & even if it fell over or was dropped, which neither happened, it would be impossible for that very top piece to be just shattered like this

Coleman 12'x12' Canopy Worked Terrific!

My husband and I purchased the Coleman 12'x12' Straight Leg Instant Canopy/Gazebo for our annual family camping trip to The Lantern Resort - Motel & Family Campground, Jefferson NH (located diagonally across from Santa's Village). This Coleman 12'x12' canopy was terrific! It was the best purchase we've made so far towards our camping equipment. The canopy went up quick and easy with no problem at all. We used the stakes to secure the canopy legs and that worked fine. The canopy provided shelter from the sun, wind, and rain. We were dry the whole entire 7 day camping trip! We placed the canopy directly in front of our family tent (like a porch). I also separately purchased (Qty 3) Coleman Max Shelter Sun Wall Attachments for our Coleman 12'x12' Canopy in order to give us a little privacy with our campsite (Walmart # 550903880; http://www.walmart.com/ip/Coleman-Max-Shelter-Sunwall/23428072). These too were very easy to attach. I ended up using only (Qty 1) Coleman Sun Wall for this camping trip. We received a lot of compliments from the other campers on our Coleman 12'x12' Canopy. At the end of our camping trip, this Coleman 12'x12' canopy was very easy to take down quickly and put back into it's storage bag. I absolutely love tent camping with this canopy! I highly recommend this product.

Great shade, lousy durability. Had it and treated it with TLC for 2 months. A tear developed along one side where there was a velcro attachment to the frame during a light and I mean light wind on an otherwise calm day. Asked for warranty support from Coleman since we had only had it 2 months. We filled out their online form and sent pictures but got no response for 2 weeks. We we called to check on the status they said it "is not a warranty issue because the canopy is only for shade and shouldn't be used in wind". I objected asking if I am supposed to take it down every time a breeze starts to blow. Their answer was YES. What a joke. The only thing that sets companies apart these days is customer service. Well Coleman seems to be lacking this and to their loss. We've already started telling friends and family about our experience. Do yourself a favor and go with another brand. We will.

Do not buy this item. I bought one a year ago and used it flawlessly the first time. I was extremely impressed with how sturdy it was and how well it held up to the moderate winds on the beach but when I took it out to use it again this year it was a different story. there is some kind of engineering defect and during storage four of the plastic parts that support the middle section were all broken. I am an avid outdoorsman and take good care of all my equipment so I was really surprised to find it damaged. Non the less I had bought it in part because of its name (Colman). I don't know what happened but this is not the same Colman I grew up with. I called customer service to order the parts but like I said this is not the same Colman. I was told that they do not make or sell replacement parts except for the canvas. So disappointed. $197.00 plus tax and only used it one time for abut 2hrs. DO NOT BUY THIS,

We purchased this 12 x 12 canopy to place on our deck which gets battered by the sun. Set-up was easy but definitely a 2-man job and easier with 3. Read the instructions and remember to open the top vents in the canopy BEFORE set up as they're too high to do afterwards. Has large buttons on the poles to make it easier to heighten/lower the frame. When the frame is to the full height, my 6'4" son can walk under the canopy without ducking his head. Velcro tabs secure the canopy to the frame. This is made of substantial material and appears well manufactured. Poles have some heft to them, I don't think they'll be snapping with the first wind. As it's BIG would recommend you at least lower the canopy should a storm blow up. The legs of the frame do not slant out as some do so you can actually use it in a 12 x 12 ft. location. Anchor pins are included if you're using it on the ground.

  • A. It is fairly waterproof. We had a good hard rain the other day, and when I went out, I noticed that some rain had come in from the center top where the air vent flaps are. So a few things that were under the middle got damp. However, we've sat under it in the rain and really had no trouble and didn't get wet. So I think a few drops may come in to the center, but not too bad. Not perfect, but good enough for us, and we live where it rains quite a bit!

The shelter says easy and instant-I have another shelter that is not a Coleman and it is almost impossible to set up alone-

  • A. I set my canopies up alone frequently. It takes a while, but if you just go around the canopy and keep tugging out each leg a little bit at a time, you'll have it locked into place after a few minutes. Then you can raise each leg to the first detent one at a time and then take them to the desired height. The key is to make sure you're not putting too much stress on the other legs when you're pulling one out.

  • A. It advertises 3 quick steps.... Well, that is true. Expand frame, put on cover, and elevate legs right? Well, it took myself and my fiancé about 20 minutes to finish.. I am 6'2" and she is 5'9". I would advise having some help. If you go this route, remember to open roof vent BEFORE raising canopy.. Hope this helps....

  • A. You can do it! The best way to do it is to stand the base up straight, and then one corner at a time pull outward a couple of inches, and just keep walking around the outside and doing that until it's most of the way up. Then put the tarp-piece over it, and velcro it down, then continue to walk around the corners pulling a bit at a time on each until it's all the way up. Should be no trouble and will take you less than 10 minutes. :) Good luck!

  • A. Yes you could set it up by yourself if you were leaving it where you are setting it up. It is very easy to assemble. 2 people would be better. It comes all together. The top you have to lay over the structure & Velcro before you higher the sides. The trick is keeping it all uniform. In another word each corner must be lifted to one click at a time.

  • A. No, this shelter is rather large and it is definitely a two person (three is even better) job. But that being said, it is one of the best canopies I've purchased. Plenty big, and when anchored properly, will hold up in nasty weather.
