  • A. Hi bll, I just got a Coby MPCD285 for playing MP3-CD's. Yes it will play MP3-CD's. I only tried MP3. I don't have any WMA files. I don't think they work BUT. If any of the MP3s are VBR (Variable Bit Rate) then you will just get on the display: NO I had to find a very old MP3 that was Variable Bit Rate and not copy that onto the new MP3-CD I burned and it worked fine after that. I did put up a review of the player on Walmarts website. I forgot to copy it before I submitted it. But I'm very satisfied with this player. This is what Coby's website says: Any Coby player that has a model number that begins MPCD will play MP3 discs. Please note that if your MP3 disc will not play, there could be an error with the format. Make sure all the files have a MP3 extension and are not audio, wma or zip files. Make sure to burn the files at a constant bitrate, 128 is recommended. Separate folders may be used and if given the option to burn "track" or "disc at once" choose disc.

For the price of the Coby MPCD285 Portable AM/FM Radio/MP3/CD Player, the sound is fantastic. I have only played CDs on it and am fully satisfied with the performance of the product. The lyrics of the CDs sounded crisp, sharp and could be heard very clearly.

Ok, for price. I use it in my office and even the cd's have a buzz/noise. I believe it is the equipment around my desk but it is still not as good as I would like. It would be nice if it had something that would block out the static from computer or lights. I did use a personal cd player and there was no noise but wanted something a little bigger.

Very Good with small issues

Its a solidly made system that is small/compact boombox. The CD Tray is manually opened and closed and is very good. CD / MP3-CD is manually placed onto spindle and is easy to do. Playback sound (physical cd spinning) is almost non-existent except on initial scan of a MP3-CD and the Audio playback is very very good for a system that is so compact. I was very surprised how good the audio sounded. The Main problem is the size of the Display to see CD / MP3-CD playback. A Quarter will cover up the display. Also the display is at an angle that makes it impossible to read if viewed from above. The system has to literally be brought up to slightly above "Eye-Level". Also the display is not back-lit at all. A second smaller issue is the Radio station dial. Its analog and its all over the map as far as the tuning wheel matching the station to what the wheel says. BUT the stations come in very well and the antenna for me didn't need to be up. That was surprising. The Buttons for playing/accessing the CD / MP3-CD audio are very well done and with very little practice made sense and are easy for moving between songs. Or in a MP3-CD the different folders and the songs within each folder or songs at root of the MP3-CD. BUT something to note. If you have any VBR ( Variable Bit Rate) MP3's on your CD the display will simply say "NO". So make sure you don't have any VBR mp3's or VBR wma files (I only have MP3 files and have only tried MP3 files). The instruction manual is very thin, but pretty well written. but just experimenting will made using the system pretty easy. The time it takes from closing the lid to being able play a MP3-CD is 30secs. That is very good for a value priced system. Overall I am very happy with this system and am quite please with it for the value price I got it at. I just wish the display was larger.

I love the small size. I bought it to listen to my mp3 discs of old radio shows while I'm outside. They played great on this boom box. The sound is really good. The price was good and I'm very satisfied with it.

This little stereo boombox seems to be a perfect gift as a portable music player (CD, MP3s on CD, radio) for someone kind of old-school and still uses CDs and want the portability. Bought this for a relative. It is plastic constructions and the buttons are plasticky, but it is a great value. Thinking of buying a second one for my office. Will be able to tell how much I like this product over time, but I'm optimistic..
