they would be in front. mount a seat and these rods look like they would hit a persons legs.

  • A. they do stick out ad you could catch your legs on them i suggest that you cut them to fit under the seat in have done this and works perfectly

  • A. Not at all. It clamps on the bench already in the boat and is flush with that. Nothing pokes out to hit the legs. I have this clamp and was surprised at the fit and lack of feeling like it was going to fall off or come loose. It is great.

  • A. Since the swivel base rotates a full 360 degrees, the adjusting rods can be used side-to-side or front-to-back (depending on your own application needs). We installed the bases on a fiberglass bench seat on our vintage boat . . . and then mounted folding Atwood plastic seats on top of the swivel bases. The new plastic seats extend well past the adjusting rods in front and so the rods do NOT touch your legs at all. Hope this helps !

  • A. It mite bother some people but not me YET. If it does i would cut the rods down abit and put a plastic or rubber cap on the ends, the wingnutts will still have plenty of thread to adjust, the rods are long enough to modify. Just remember if you change boats you need to be able to adjust the bracket so dont cut TOO much off and dont damage the remaining threads...

  • A. I solved this problem by mounting the seats to the swivels in my garage and then measured by benches. I moved the seats in a 60/40 position and solved the rods situation...The extra length is in the back.....

  • A. The seat for the most part covers the rods so they don't hit your legs. I bought the cheapest seats that Walmart sells. I have had no issue

  • A. I used these on our 14' aluminum boat. One bench seat in the boat was 14" wide and the other seat was 12" wide. They clamped down fine and the adjusting rods did not stick out beyond the seats that I bought from Wal- Mart also. I made a tool out of a 8" long piece of schedule 80 PVC pipe to get back under the seats to tighten the wingnuts down. Just cut a slit on one end of the tool to go over the wing nuts. Works great!

  • A. No drilling at all! Clamps right on the bench and doesn't move. It is great. We have this in our boat and it never moved even on choppy water. I was worried it would come loose or move and it didn't budge.

  • A. No drilling is necessary with most typical, fold-down, boat seats. There are pre-drilled & tapped holes in the upper section to screw your seat to.

  • A. We have a vintage (1955) fiberglass boat and did not want to drill any more holes into it. The base does indeed clamp on to an existing bench seat . . . and then you can mount your own new seat on top of that.

I read many reviews on these little guys before purchasing them with the molded plastic Wise boat seats. I read how the clamps are hard to install and hard to turn the wingnuts cause they are placed in a hrad to get to area etc... After using them myself I think people are pretty particular about expecting ULTIMATE PERFECTION from everything they buy. I find it pretty easy to turn the wingnuts and only spent about 4-5 minutes to install the clamp onto my boat bench. I made extra sure to tighten it down really good, and haven't had to adjust it since. It creeks a little and made me nervous at first, but if tighhtened down really good it is super stable and has not fallen off. I have used the clamps with my boat seats about 5 times now and haven't had to adjust mine since the first time I clamped it on. It swivels 360 degrees and does everything I was expecting out of it. It is perfect for me as I have a smaller 14' boat so I can bring myself fishing, or 2 or 3 people and have the versatlity of being able to place the seats in various positions at any time to fit the need of the fishing party.

I am a 65 yo 210lb man who has a 12 ft aluminum boat, fishing on Baboosic lake in NH. I often fish with another man my age. Matt, at Walmart recommended that I try these swivel clamps. I bought 2 swivels and 2 Wise seats.... I read every review listed on this page and used the comments from each. I have been out on the water 12 times this summer and really enjoy having heavy duty Wise seats on these swivels....The key was mounting the seats onto the clamps in my garage, then measured my benches against the clamp spacing, and the actually mounting was the easy part. I cut a slot V in a used plastic pipe from one of my wet/dry vacs as a tool to tighten the wing nuts. I mounted a broom handle clamp and keep the pipe handy ...Total time one hour....Now we are constantly being asked how we mounted these great seats on this type of boat...I tell them ask for Matt at Walmart......

Customer has been confirmed to have purchased the item from Walmart.

I will start with the problems. When you mount the seat to the swivel base there isn't enough room under the seat to reach the wing nuts to tighten the clamp onto the boat's seat. If you don't get the clamp quite tight it just pops off the boat's seat with very little pressure, i.e. leaning against the seat back. What I wound up doing to solve the problem was to replace the wing nuts with 3/8x16 nuts then use a deep socket wrench to tighten the nuts. You just have to be careful not to over tighten the nuts which could damage the boat's seat. Other than that, the swivel works great and when correctly tightened is very secure. I just keep a deep socket wrench in my tackle box now and am a happy and comfy fisherman! ><}}}}'>
