Most versatile grill ever

I have had this for over 2 years and it is the only grill/smoker I use. Well built and I keep it outside in Florida. I have never had a grill last more than 2 years here. I smoke or grill 4 or 5 times a month and this is so versatile I go low and slow 200-250 degrees for ribs, pork butts and brisket or I sear a steak at 600 plus. Once you get use to the vents it holds the temperature very well. I have cooked as long as 12 hours at low and slow and never had to add any more lump charcoal. Most times I reuse the charcoal that is left and only need to add a small amount for the next cook. Only allowed 2 pictures so here are ribs & Jamaican jerked chicken shots but my Texas Brisket, grilled wings, beer can chickens and cedar plank Salmons on this bad boy always please a crowd.

Good Food, Good Fun

Great grill for the price. I had a couple of questions and Kyle at customer support was terrific. There is a learning curve as to the amount of charcoal to use and to get the right temperature. Food is delicious.

Junk

After one month this grill is falling apart. I use raw oak wood to make charcoal, which obviously yields temperatures too high for this device. To make charcoal you burn wood, and then smother it. It did this well the first three times, and then wouldn't seal adequately to put fire out. The handles on the (flimsy) dampers were the first to fall off, and then the upper damper came off in my hand as I was closing it, apparently from heat stress/fatigue.

Beware purchasing any Char-Griller products!

Bought a Char-Griller product that was damaged. They will not honor warranty. Found out the are not a BBB member and carry an "F" rating from that organization. I have a complaint pending, but not hopeful. There are better manufacturers out there with much better customer service.

Almost a Green Egg

I've had my Akorn for about three years and can only state how happy I am with it. I share recipes with my son in law who has a Big Green Egg and both smokers cook equally. I use lump charcoal (never use briquets) and get restaurant quality BBQ brisket, pulled pork, and chicken. Best thing going for the money.
