Here is the trick to using this product!
I was highly disappointed at first (too think, flaky, etc), BUT after a little tweaking I found a way to make the product work and my curls pop (I have 4b/c hair). I got an empty jar and halved the product into both jars. I added hot water and stirred/whisked until the product became runny. After washing/rinsing, I add my leave-in conditioner and any other product of choosing. I add about two fingertips full (it runs off the fingers lol), and rub through my hair. Then top off with a Shine... It WORKS just fine! Now, if you're worried about shrinkage, be prepared. You will not have the extra long locks because you will have shrinkage! Trust me. I pull my hair in the top after it dries, but that's a minor issue and it doesn't matter to me because I have a short hair cut, but my daughter loves it too for the curl definition she gets with her twists and wash-n-goes. For those who like the afro look on parts or all over your head, this will make your curls look awesome! I hope this helps! :)

Smells good, makes hair soft - but loosens curls.
I have used several Cantu products over the years, and my usual product from them that I have remained true to is their leave-in conditioning repair cream. However, someone suggested this define and shine custard to me. I watched several review videos on youtube and decided to buy it and try it for myself. Unfortunately, it didn't work out so well for me. My curl pattern is 3b with a few little sections that are more 3a, 3b, and some that are more 3c; so I generally classify myself as 3b as a nice neutral spot. My hair generally soaks up product well but isn't extremely thick or thin; it's on the average side leaning towards thin. I used this product after applying the leave-in conditioning repair cream, then wetting my hair even more since it says to apply to soaking wet hair. I raked through a minimal but not too little amount of product into my hair in three sections then combed, crunched and air dryed. My hair was crunchy with a gel cast as it dried; but I'm used to that from other products so I simply put some oil on my hands and scrunched the gel cast away after my hair was fully dry. My results ended up being less than ideal. My curl pattern was if anything, loosened. It was not defined. With this product my curl pattern loosened to a 2b, and even a 2a in some areas; which was really disappointing. The pros are that my hair was very soft, it smelled nice, it did give my hair a bit of a shine. The cons are that it loosened my curl pattern to a wave which is just unacceptable for a "defining" product, and deflated most of the volume that I usually have.

awesome!!!

3b/3c hair used after cowashing with a little conditioner left in. It melts into the instantly smoothing down frizz. It does dry a little crunchy but after scrunching and fluffing the hair... perfect smooth light bouncy curls!

Me& my Son has dry hair

This is wonderful FOR PEOPLE WITH CORSE AND DRY DRY. THICK AND DRY HAIR. MUST HAVE EITHER OR NOT JUST CORSE HAIR OR DRY. Cantu, keep Doing!! My son and I have very dry hair and its corse(hint we are african american) and ive tried a lot of different creme moist products and coconut oil that I bought from trader joes and Kinky curly stuff, but nothing dose it better then this. It keeps its shinny and mosit over night to the next day. I put it in with water, since the hair is dry, and apply. you do not need a lot. This is not a setting lotion type, mot for a shine and hold. Does not flake after hours. Its defines the curls with shine. I love cantu, especially their leave in conditioner, that is good for twist out after a wash. AFTER ALREADY Applying: You can still apply but do every other day, to keep fresh add a little mist of water to your hair, depending on how dry and corse it is.

Great definition

I used it when my hair was soaking & it helped define my curls. Usually they're proofing but with this product it's amazing & still has volume without the frizz.

Great hold without the crunch!

Great for twist outs, this gel gives a great hold to prevent frizz. Only a very small amount is needed as a little goes a long way and using too much may cause flaking. Works well on dry hair.
