    • A. No, But it helps to have the standard USB cable for printers or scanners when setting up. After you complete the set-up you can print via your router or you can set it up to print directly from your wireless card to the printer.

    • A. Yes. But ONLY FOR INTITIAL SETUP. You must plug USB cord (you can use the one off your old Printer) to Setup this wireless printer. Once Setup has completed, you can remove the USB cord for complete Wirelessness. :-)

For the price ($39 + tax) it's just brillant. I was looking for a mobile airprinter to use with my iphone. Of course there is no such a thing on the market (maybe one with a $500 price tag lol). So I deceided to give up either mobile size or airprint feature just to stay cheap. I already have a Samsung wireless laser printer at home but needed sth to use in an emergency when out of home (my job requires me to travel a lot). Compared to Samsung this Canon has much better wireless conecticion capability. I was able to set it up to print directly from my iphone with no access point (using featured app) what was not possible with my stationary printer. Just to make sure that I mention - this is not a small printer but it's fairly compact sized anyways. Very nice scanning as well. The only thing I'm affraid of is how long these ink cartridges are going to last. I saw regular (xxl) cartridges for $50 set, which is more than the printer itself. Yeah, they have to make money on sometthing since the printer was almost free.

I bought this on sale for $25 because my $200 HP printer decided to stop recognizing cartridges on a day I needed to print. Normally I would not look twice at a printer this cheap, but I was desperate and the reviews seemed positive, except regarding install. This printer is AMAZING! It prints crisp, clear photos and lines out of the box. The print quality is just a good, if not better, than that of my HP. As far as install. If you have a wireless modem you will have to put it in discover mode (normally done by pressing a button on the front) and connect to the printer's network on wifi before it will recognize the device. So you won't have regular internet access during the install, you should be connected to the printer instead during this time. I hope that makes sense. Once you're connected everything else is smooth sailing! I highly recommend this printer both for quality and for price. You'll be hard pressed trying to find something comparable in this price range.

I had a working mg2520 but it was not a google cloud print printer. I knew that the machine would be loud and use a lot of ink. I thought that with this printer I would be able to print from my chromebook. I can but with limitations. I have no color option. This means I will be going through both the black and color cartridges quickly. And as others have said cartridges are expensive. It also took over 2 hours to get it connected to our wifi and during that time I ended up printing approximately 8 pages. Canon is not helpful when it comes to chromebook support. There are no instructions for connecting using a chromebook. I did find help on the web from people that had the same problem as I did and found a solution. When I contacted Canon support about color options and I was told this printer does not support it for chromebooks. It would have been nice to have known that before purchasing or including extra cartridges would have been helpful since I will be using more ink than intended.

At first it was difficult to get it to recognize the wireless printer on the network. I give their documentation a 2 star for not appropriately explain the steps. I noticed several people complaining on how the printer doesn't see the network. To get this printer to be recognize on the network, run through the wps setup. It will not find it so there is check box to proceed an additional way. Make sure that is checked and hit next. It will then instruct to hold the wireless button down until the alarm led blinks once. This will cause the wireless led to start blinking( this places it in receive mode ). This part wasn't explain too well in the doc. Once the wireless is blinking, on your router hit the wps button. The printer will register and the wireless led will stop blinking. Give a about 3 minutes and the software will register the printer. Then you can proceed from there.

I would give have given this printer 5 stars had it not been for the slight glitch when installing the software. The directions are good but can even be clearer. For one thing, there should be more emphasis on the term "Cableless" setup, which means wireless or WiFi. Not being sure about this term, I chose WEP, which lead to having to revert to USB installation because wireless setup was not working. I then contacted Canon support and they clarified what cableless setup meant and that the previously installed driver needed to be uninstalled and reinstalled. This allowed me to reinstall the software for “Cableless” without the need to rely on USB connection first. The process took a couple of hours but I eventually ended up with all the printer functions working properly. Aside from the flimsy construction (expected, considering the price) the print quality, speed and operation is good and is what you would expect from a Canon printer. The cost of the ink cartridges is not outrageous as some inkjet printers. This printer has all the features I was looking for and with any luck will suit my purpose for a while.

After a little bit of back and forth on the set up, overall, the printer works great. Would be better if Canon made the set up easier. My laptop does not have a CD Rom so I had to download the drivers from their website. I had a little trouble getting the drivers installed, but other than that, the printer and scanner work very well. Once the set up was complete on my lap top, I was able to connect my phone and tablet and can now print wirelessly.

I will first say the print quality is decent. That is the only mildly positive thing to say about this printer. The second thing I will say is if you are a novice computer user this is not the printer for you. I work with more complicated technology than a printer everyday and found the setup and use of this printer to be tedious, complicated, and so unintuitive that I long for a dot matrix printer for the ease of use alone. As many people have said, my main complaint is with the wireless discovery. Next to impossible to succeed. It will not discover the printer or network on first scan. The manual process is unclear and poorly directed. I know an advanced setup is not for everyone, but is a simple easy to find manual network config menu so much to ask for? I will never recommend this printer to anyone and while I'm sure Canon makes some good models I'm so put off by this poorly designed software interface I'll bet that the software is miserable for most Canon models, not that I'm likely to try. I've got to go return this sad piece of...equipment before I go Office Space on it.

We called Canon after not being able to find our printer on the network because of a secure router. I will list the steps below to help anyone else out. If you are installing from scratch the beginning will be a bit different. You can just scroll until it sounds familiar to what you are seeing. First, start setup (start setup again), click next. Make sure wireless option is checked, next. Choose access point, then next. Then for me, since I had already tried to install once, the setup guide will launch. Click next. Choose Other Setup. Choose Wireless setup using USB Cable (not included with the printer). Select what you want to install, click next. Yes/No License Agreement. Next. Will go through the setup, then wait a few seconds as it "thinks" (nothing will be on the screen for this part, so dont panic). Wait for a box to appear that states searching for printer. Another box will appear and state that the printer cannot be found. Plug in the USB cable from printer to computer and check the box for the connection trough USB cable and click next. It will scan for available networks then show you them in a list. Once you click on your network, you will be able to input your password/code/passphrase for your secure router. Click next and it should go through the normal installation. Hope this helps some people! All in all, now that I can print I am happy with this printer. I just wish that it came with an instruction booklet for setup with secure routers because this was a pain. Happy Printing!!

Brought it at Walmart for $39 which appears to be a steal. Canon USA site listed the recommended retail price as $79. When we first unboxed and tested, we were not able to link up the printer with our computers. Noticed the printer had a USB output, we bought a USB cable (not the "usual" USB cable, look at the printer output) from Amazon for about $1.80, it was not included with the printer that we purchased. With the cable, we hook it up onto our computers and downloaded the drivers from Canon USA site. Setup was a breeze. Tested printing wirelessly from a Mac, a Windows and an iphone. Works perfectly. Definitely value for money. Exceeded our expectation for the price we paid.
