Reaching new heights in speed, agility and creative possibilities, the PowerShot G15 gives photographers plenty of reasons to be delighted over. The excitement starts with the newly developed 5x Optical Zoom with 28mm Wide-Angle, bright f/1.8 (W) f/2.8 (T) lens that performs beautifully across the entire zoom range, even in low light, and can create dramatic soft backgrounds with shallow depth-of-field. Additional great features for the PowerShot G15 include Canon's HS SYSTEM, which combines a High-Sensitivity 12.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor with the DIGIC 5 Image Processor for ultra-fast performance and phenomenal image quality, a new dual axis electronic level, plus upgraded video capture in 1080p Full HD with stereo sound. The PowerShot G15 is designed to inspire and support your advanced creativity with 12-bit multi aspect RAW+JPEG just like in Canon's EOS line of DSLR cameras, new High Speed AF which dramatically reduces lag time when shooting, and the ability to add optional Speedlite flashes and a Tele-Converter Lens. When you're ready to take the next step in your photographic journey, PowerShot G15 is ready to get you there.

A Bright and Powerful New Lens
Newly engineered specifically for the PowerShot G15, the camera's 28mm Wide-Angle 5x Optical Zoom lens with a focal length of 6.130.5mm (35mm film equivalent: 28140mm) achieves f/1.8f/2.8, making it one of the camera's most exciting features. The Wide-Angle lens gives your images a distinctive sweep and grandeur, capturing landscapes, cityscapes, tall buildings and wide groups of people with ease. The large f/1.82.8 aperture allows you to achieve shallow depth-of-field for creating portraits with beautiful, soft background blur, and incomparable Canon optical technology delivers a high performance lens enabling incredible images, even in low light.

Beautiful Images and Fast Performance Start Here
The PowerShot G15 employs a Canon 12.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, which delivers state-of-the-art imaging performance and is optimized for use in compact cameras. Utilizing a sophisticated light-capturing design, it provides high sensitivity for improved high ISO capture with reduced noise. It is also a high-speed design, capable of rapidly capturing and moving image data to the processor, enabling faster continuous shooting and faster autofocus.

Canon DIGIC 5 Image Processor

I had been waiting for an update to G12 and Canon hit a bulls eye with this camera. One could argue about G1X etc but I was looking for not just something more portable and handy for the situations when I did not want to lug my DSLR equipment around but something which would provide me with all the creative possibilities and image quality at not breaking my bank price. The best feature on this camera is its lens and the new sensor. Pristine image with high quality and fast lens with usable wide to long range for everyday use. The smart pan feature is pretty cool. Auto focus is noticeably fast. The burst mode did surprise me for a camera of this kind. I have not explored auto mode as that is more of when my kids and wife needs to shoot but the manual controls with easy access buttons in the back are awesome. The body seem to feel like Magnesium. Not sure if it really is or if it is plastic. Small ergonomic preferences apart the camera is a winner. Great job Canon. G15 will rule in this segment.

I bought this camera to take on a trip to Niagara Falls, NY City, DC & Virginia because I did not want to take my DSLS. It is compact enough that I could carry in purse, pocket etc. I got wonderful pics of the falls, excellent night pics in NY, statue of Liberty, monuments in DC. I bought the adaptor so I could use a polarizer. You need to watch the back of the screen when turning the polarizer, it will not show any change when looking through the view finder. When using the view finder, you will see some of the adaptor but will not affect taking a pic. I wish it had the small manual like my DSLR has because I do like to take it along. I requested one but was the 8x11 size still helpful though. Pictures are very sharp & clear, battery life pretty good 200-250 pics which included looking at them on the screen, menu easy to use, love having the compensation dial on the top easy to make adjustments, don't miss the rotating screen on the back, never used it on my old powershot. Hardly use the view finder, good viewing screen on the back.

I bought the G9 in 2007. It still works. But, dust got into the lens. After 6 years and about 100,000 pictures I think that is reasonable. The camera was a tank. I also own the T3i with multiple lenses. I love the T3i but it is not as easy to carry around as the G series. Decided to buy the G15. Well worth the investment. I am WOWED by the improvements. Awesome pictures. Love the faster lens. Love the higher ISO. I have had this camera less than a month and I have already shot a few thousand pictures. I can't put it down. I take it with me everywhere. The battery lasted through 700 pictures on the first charge. Great photos during daytime and nightime. Love how easy the flash is to turn on. That is much improved. My only wish is that I could change the TV and AV while in the "P" setting the way they had it in the G9. Other than that, I have no complaints. Very happy with this purchase. I won't wait another 6 years to upgrade.

I had purchase the SX 150 in September of 2012 and was disappointed with it's performance. Everything about it was sub par and I was considering going back to using my A570is when I decided to purchase the G15 in April of 2013. After using the G15 now for 6 months, I can give it a great review. Definitely worth the money. Faster continuous shooting, quicker focus, and f 1.8 lens and long battery life. This camera performance should not be compared to a DSLR performance because it's not one. But with its many shooting modes, quick recharge on the flash and compact size, to me, makes it worth every penny. I love being able to take 8 to 10 continuous shots and then pick out the best one of the shoot. I'm able to get pictures I would normally miss with the SX15's slower continuous mode. And no more carrying around an 8 pack of AA batteries because of how fast the SX15 would used them up. Longer battery life is a huge plus.

Three Minor Design Faults

I’m an experienced portrait man and bought the G15 primarily for B&W portraits because its zoom lens is perfect for that and also for B&W infrared and fluid-motion photography using long time exposures and neutral density filters. The other reviewers are correct that the camera is amazingly versatile and on automatic settings does everything for the photographer probably better than he can do it himself, especially focusing and exposures, with manual settings and control also available. My only complaints are (1) the power switch is too easily triggered when handling and putting the camera in a case; (2) the fold-away lens shield is too flimsy and can be damaged by an errant thumb simply by picking up the camera unwarily; (3) there is no “bulb” setting, which limits time exposures to 15 seconds, precluding most fluid-motion photography, even when using the optional remote shutter release. Most DSLRs allow the “bulb” setting and lack of this is the G15’s most significant technical deficiency considering the technical needs of fine photography as it is performed by today’s enthusiasts.
