A mysterious drifter (Josh Hartnett) and a young Japanese warrior Yoshi (Gackt) both arrive in a town that has been terrorized by outrageous and virulent criminals. Each is obsessed with his separate mission, and guided by the wisdom of the Bartender (Woody Harrelson) at the Horseless Horseman Saloon, the two eventually join forces to bring down the corrupt and contemptuous reign of Nicola (Ron Perlman), the awesomely evil woodcutter and his lady Alexandra (Demi Moore), a femme fatale with a secret past.

Worth it, even if it's not a favorite

I'll be honest when I say that one of the only reasons I was interested in this film initially was because it was Gackt's American film debut. However, after seeing it the film, I can say the Japanese star was not the only thing that kept me watching! The style is rather refreshing, keeping you aware of the fact that you're watching a staged performance, but the performance itself draws you into its realm like any good film should. It's not the sort of thing that every audience will enjoy, but if you're up for an adventure and trying something new that just might surprise you in the end, I definitely nominate Bunraku. (It's not mainstream, despite having big-name stars such as Demi Moore, and was not offered in my local theater or store, so I ordered it offline. No problems there, for those interested in that aspect.)

Different... But pretty good.

Gotta say, I only watched this on Netflix because I'm a HUGE fan of Gackt's. I'd heard about this film when it was being shot and had been waiting to view it, then after watching it decided that I would like to add it to my collection. The first time I watched it it really didn't make much sense to me, but the more I watch it the more I love it~ It's definitely not done in any typical theatrical fashion and I think that's part of why I like it so well.

Very Interesting movie

Gackt was great.
