Printing with brothers laser machines for 7 years now. This is my second one and its color is better than any desk jet on the market. People think that laser toner are high cost. Considering the cost of ink you have to buy for desk-jet several times a year its a bargain. I've never seen a desk-jet that can print up to fifteen thousand sheets before it runs out of color.

Toner notifications make the machine untenable
I love the printer itself. I use it at home and purchased it because I like it from using it at work. However, the toner notifications make owning this machine too much of a pain. You get a daily notification of low toner being WAY before you are going to run out. This was true even in an office where I did much more printing. I waiting a while before ordering the toner and did so on June 22. So for over two months now, I tell it every single day that I know I have to get toner. There is no way to tell it I actually have the toner on hand. Every time I print, I get a notification that I'm low on toner. Even with that, I might have been able to tolerate this nonsense. But the every 3-4 hours, every single day, having a popup tell me I'm low on toner is intrusive, unhelpful, and maddening. Just to shut it up, I changed the toner. There was still toner in the cartridge, but I have had it. There is no easy way to turn this off, although there are myriad complaints about it online. So, in order to not be annoyed by technology, I just wasted a whole bunch of money (toner being the most expensive substance on the planet) and this is unacceptable. I don't really care how good a product is, it is not supposed to be this annoying just to own it.

Great printer

This printer is awesome and fast. It prints high quality pics and docs you would expect from a laser printer

Glad I finally got me one

I have been waiting a long time to pull the trigger on getting a toner printer. I do alot of crafting and some photography as well. I usually have to pay to have prints made for my crafts, now I can do it at home. I wish I would have gotten the one that does that double side prints on it's own. Nonetheless I know what I was getting.

Great printer for the money!

I don't believe you can find a better printer for the $$. It is fast, great quality, and is very reliable. Nice job Brother! I might also mention that Brother's Customer Service is in my opinion is top notch. It took only a couple of minutes for them to walk me through the wireless set up process when I was having difficulties.

A Very Good Printer

1. This was a little bigger and heavier than I thought it would be. It's not a problem for me, but just check the numbers before you buy. 2. I was a little concerned about the quality of a “digital laser color” printer. I bought this at the last minute because I wanted better resolution for pictures in our Christmas letter. I am happy with the printing. There are two modes, 600x600 dpi and “2400-class” dpi. Frankly, I didn't see much better resolution for the higher dpi setting, if at all, and the color in the pictures on plain paper was definitely darker with the higher resolution. I stuck with the 600 dpi setting. 3. After I printed 210 pages, I got “replace black toner” message. I took the cartridge out and carefully shook it, but that didn't clear the message. This unit will not print with that message. I recycled on/off. I took the cartridge out again and shook it. I could hear what sounded like remaining toner. I still couldn't clear the message. It wouldn't print. I used my Canon ink jet to finish my printing. So I got 210 pages from the “starter” toner cartridges. I know the printer companies make money from toner. I just wish they didn't make it so brutal and obvious. (Btw, you might also get a message to clean the corona wires. To do this, you have to move a plastic tab back and forth over the corona wire a couple of times. If subsequent printouts have a stripe down the left side of the page, you probably didn't return the plastic tab all the way to the left. It happened to me.) 4. I checked online for toner. Holy smokes, more than $80 each for OEM toner. I found compatible toner for about $25 (SuppliesGuys). I can live with that. 5. I used a USB cable, so have not tried the wireless part. 6. The next day on YouTube, I found out how to clear the “replace toner” message and get the printer to print again. 7. Update: The compatible toner (SuppliesGuys) came in along with two mints. The toner works fine. Yay! 8. I'm happy with the printer.

Great Introductory Laser Jet

This printer fits our small business needs quite well. If you are looking for high quality printing be sure to buy the correct paper. We are using some copy paper and the lines are not as crisp as I would like. The setup was simple and it has worked nicely. Don't put it too close to your desk, it is a little noisy, but not any louder than any other laser jet out there.

Good printer but slow startup

This is a good, solid printer. We had been using Okidata C610 because it printed on super heavy stock and was very fast. This one is slower and definitely not as solid but it does the job. Pros: Wifi is easy to set up, does iPhone/iPad direct print, good quality, fast once the job is started (if single job) Cons: first print takes long (20s), if job is a lot of single pages it pauses in between each for 5-8s, not as solid, screen is not backlit (so unreadable in low light), feeder will only hold 1 sheet at a time

what I don't like

I don't like that the envelope feed is at the back of the printer which makes it inconvenient and makes the required space it takes too much. I do like the black/white and color in the same unit and I like the speed. I have had to have service on it already and it required a part. have only had a few months and hope that this is not an indication of its durability.

Difficult...

I heard that Brother made the best printers so I bought one. I was surprised about how difficult the instructions are. Also, the LCD screen is hard to read. This is not a Plug & Play machine. The print results are good. Just getting to the print phase is a chore.
