I got a pair of these SIX years ago when I hit 5 years in my company, and these were in a catalog of things I could pick a "gift" from. I'm a runner so it was a pretty easy pick, to get these. All I can say is, six years later they still work as well as they did on day 1. I think that alone says so much for Bose quality. They sound amazing, obviously. I run every other day...so they get used, a lot.
I've owned two pairs of these now - sound is brilliant and for running etc the fit in the ear is top quality - ran NY marathon last year and they did their job. However each pair has shown fairly quick deterioration of the wires - the phones still work but look pretty awful. See picture for one example - looks like a very cheap plastic coating. Doubt I'll buy another pair.
This is my third pair and every exchange was because the wiring would tear at the connector end. This is because Bose uses a straight plug-in design versus an elbow connector design. So for those of you having a port on top of the phone be prepared for constant bending and ultimately tearing of the wire. Only takes a few months. I found if you wrap the wire at the connector end with electric tape it will add some durability. But why do you have to do that? Also the rubber earpieces wear down and not stay fastened. So you may find yourself digging them out of your ear!
Not even a year of casual office use (I don't do workouts or any other activities with them) and already all over the places, where cable bends ( near plug, near left/right side splitter, etc.) wires cracking and pealing! what will be next, after at least a year??? I was thinking it will be decent quality earphones, but.... Now I am worried for my Lifestyle 650 system, since Bose quality went down!
I was thinking to attach more pictures to show all cracks, but upload size is limited too! Instead of 6 pictures of poor quality I am able to attach just one with good dpi! :(
I love Bose products and have owned a few pairs of different models of the Bose Earphones. The All of the cables crack after a while (way too soon in my opinion). Most recent pair are the relatively new Sound Ultra model (which are a bit different than the model on the site (the controls are connected to both ear piece cables in the center - which is where they cracked - lasted 5 months) I love the sound and comfort of Bose earphones. I use them with care and tuck them gently into their case when carrying them. Every time I buy a new pair I hope that Bose has done something with the cable issues. I can't believe Bose is not aware if this. :(
I've been glueing and patching my earphones to bypass this.
I hope Bose reads this..
I've had my headphones for about a year and a half, and get normal use out of them, they don't get used everyday, and they have always been stored in the carry case that came with them. However, very recently the plastic that encases the wires has started to break in multiple spots and now it's only a matter of time before they bite the dust. For $100+ headphones I would expect better quality!
I've returned 2 pairs of these headphones because the wire keeps tearing. If my phone falls out my pocket or I drop my phone the wire can't handle the force when it yanks out of the jack port. Tears at the base of the wire every time. The wire needs more rubber and better construction
Shocked!. Returned them right away!! I have an over the ear noise canceling headphone and an in-ear noise canceling earphone that I use on flights. Works great. I was replacing my MIE2 so I thought it was a no brainer to stay with Bose, even though this is now my fourth set of earphones in almost the same years. Sound is great but they fall apart. See pic. Reason for returning the new Soundtrue Ultra earphones is 1) they aren't very loud and more importantly 2) unless you sit very still, the wires rubbing on your clothes or even touching them provided distracting thuds and reverberations. DON'T BUY THESE. Now I still need to find a replacement for my MIE2.
