Great Phillips bits!

I only use Phillips drive system when I have to as there are many other drive types that perform much better for higher torque applications but there are many instances where I need a good Phillips bit and these are outstanding. I found this product in a 15pc. container, which stated "Made in USA" on the back, and I immediately bought them. I had never used any screwdriver bits made by Bosch before. They have proven to be as tough as any other bits I've used from USA or Germany. I used my Bosch IDH 182 impact driver to drive a 3" #9 screw into a piece of an old hard wall stud which I had left after a remodel project in my 60 year old home. I did this with 6 different brand's 1" phillips #2 bits and 6 different 3" screws of the same brand. With each one, I drove the screw in until the head was ¼" deeper than flush with the wood, removed it and then repeated the process 10 times with each screw mated to it's respective bit. After performing this exercise I inspected the bits with a loupe so I could easily see any deformation or damage to the bits. Among the different bit's I had on hand these Bosch bits amazed me. The ribs work very well to hold the bit into the drive recess under a load. I would normally see a bit or two shear or shatter at the tip when doing this kind of driving into semi hard material with my impact driver yet that didn't happen with any of these different brands of bits. Several of the brands had visible deformation or wear on the blades of the bits and one had noticeable twisting at the tip. After doing this, the Bosch bit looked even better than a torsion bit made by a company that starts with a W and is known for tough screwdriver bits made in the Czech Republic. The W bits are normally my go-to bits but I usually have to order them online and they are expensive with the way Phillips bits wear. These Bosch bits cost much less than any other major branded bits I have seen at the big box hardware stores and seem to be much higher quality. This is based on the short use I have given them and the results of my not so scientific test. Bits are a consumable item and Phillips drive bits wear especially quickly as they are designed to cam out of a fastener (pop out of the drive recess) at higher torque loads. I am confident that these will last longer than the majority of other Phillips bits. I'm very happy with my purchase! I will keep an eye out for these in the future and definitely buy again when my contractors and I wear these out. I will also be looking for these in Torx and Square drive.
