I really enjoyed Born of Night. Sherrilyn Kenyon put forth a great story here. I found it extremely hard to put down and practically read it straight through. The Ichidian Universe is fascinating and full of danger and intrigue. The characters are full and complex with strengths and weaknesses that make them completely realistic...even if some of them are not human.
About This Item
In the Ichidian Universe, The League and their ruthless assassins rule all. Expertly trained and highly valued, the League Assassins are the backbone of the government. But not even the League is immune to corruption . . .
Command Assassin Nykyrian Quikiades once turned his back on the League—and has been hunted by them ever since. Though many have tried, none can kill him or stop him from completing his current mission: to protect Kiara Zamir, a woman whose father's political alliance has made her a target.
As her world becomes even deadlier, Kiara must entrust her life to the same kind of beast who once killed her mother and left her for dead. Old enemies and new threaten them both and the only way they can survive is to overcome their suspicions and learn to trust in the very ones who threaten them the most: each other.

The League series orig...
The League series originally made it's debut in 1996. The books are being re-released, expanded and with new cover art. Once an assassin for The League, Nykyrian is constantly being hunted down, with a price on his head. Now he fights to protect the innocent. He hasn't had the easiest life unloved and abused most of this life because of what he is, he has built a thick skin around himself letting no one in. That is until he takes on the protection of Kiara Zamir. She changes everything. Ms Kenyon has done it again. She has created a world that has sucked me in. I absolutely loved this story. This was a non-stop adventure and steamy romance, that I just couldn't put down. I loved the lead character Nykyrian. He is dark, surly and stubborn. He doesn't feel he is worth caring for or loving. I wasn't sure I was gonna like this book, but he turned out to be one an intriguing character. He's journey was wonderful to read, I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
This has to be my favo...
This has to be my favorite Sherilyn Kenyon book I have ever read. I loved Kiara and Nykyrian and I thought they made an awesome couple. Nykyrian is such a flawed alpha male that it was wonderful to see his vulnerable side and he was wonderfully complemented by Kiara.
Sherrilyn Kenyon never...
Sherrilyn Kenyon never ceases to amaze me, not just her incredible ability to write an amazing story, but to interweave reoccurring characters into a massive series. Sherrilyn has completely changed my mind and turned me around to the futuristic/alien genre. The characters "invade" your mind and make a welcome home there. The hero is fierce, misunderstood, compelling and let's face it yummy. A tortured soul that you just want to wrap your arms around and make the world disappear for. The supporting characters add comic relief to and insight into the world of the hero. The heroine is bold and compassionate. Steadfast in her love for this damaged soul. Captures themes that are much alive in the real world, hatred, racism, prejudice and the ultimate sacrifice for love.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters and world both had me enthralled, and while the plot wasn't particularly fast paced I found the character development compensated. My main pet peeve was the lackluster Nemesis arc - I think it could have been interesting to explore that further, and something about 'quitting' a room just makes me cringe.
