Born of Fire is the second in a set of three books set in the Ichidian Universe. In this novel, Kenyon takes us on an adventure with Syn, the enigmatic thief that stood by Nykyrian in Born of Night. I wasn't completely sure what to expect, but was very pleased to find that Born of Fire was just as good as Born of Night. I am also super excited by the idea of reading Born of Ice coming out in December. (I know that it is technically already out, and is just being reprinted with minor modifications, but hey...who can blame me for waiting...) Kenyon's League novels are by far some of her best work. And yes...I was so engrossed in the book, that I read it all in one day, and forgot to make dinner. :)

No matter what genre Sherrilyn writes, her books are hard to put down, including this series. She has a way with words that always keeps me hooked on her series and anxious to read them all.Syn has spent most of his life running from authorities and being judged harshly because he couldn't help being the son of the most notorious killer in the the universe. All but those who work with him assume the worst when in fact he's far from being his father's prodigy and is the kind of guy you want on your side. Shahara spent most of her young life raising her brother and sister when her parents passed away and left a lot of debt. She is the kind of gal that most guys are leery of particularly if they are in trouble with the law. She's one of the best tracers in the universe and is a well known seax. When her sister is put in the hospital for being with the wrong people, it's up to Shahara to find a way to pay for her stay. Desperate to save her sister, she takes on the contract of finding Syn to give to the authorities to be able to have enough money for her sister and pay off other debts her siblings have accumulated. Little does she know how much this desperate act will change her life forever.Shahara and Syn are thrown together in a strange sort of irony and soon realize there's more than meets the eye with each other. Shahara may soon come to regret something that could very well be a matter of life or death. Will they take a shot at the growing feelings between each other or let them pass by? And will they be able to make their way through many close calls and come out on top? You'll have to read this book to find out. It will be more than worth it! If romance, adventure, a dash of comedy and a futuristic setting are things you enjoy, you'll love this book!
Its been a little whi...
It's been a little while since I read the first book in the series, you can check out my review here for Born of Night. But this one is telling the story of one of the characters from the first book, C.I. Syn. He came from a life of poverty, living on the streets when he was younger, but as he grew older, he lived a life of a filch, just because he was his father's son. His father's name was feared and therefore, everyone feared him. Now he was being hunted for something he didn't do and the person chasing him is Shahara. Beautiful, but yet full of power and very deadly. Her name is well known throughout the tracer world. But he is also a very close friend of her sister and her brother. Hmmm..... She desperately needs money to help her sister Tessa, who is in the hospital. So Shahara takes on the task of going after Syn because the amount of money is more than she needs to make her life a little easier. But she isn't prepared for the person that she is about to face. He is nothing like what word-of-mouth has to say of him. They make him out to be a threat, dangerous (which he is when threatened) and a convict. But as the story moves along, she learns so much about his past and really, the real person behind his dangerous facade. He's caring, he's sensitive and he really had a troubled past that just wouldn't let him go. But Shahara is on a mission to get something from him and turn him over to the authorities, but can she really do that? Can he ever trust her? Can she trust him? The book had a lot of action and lots of sexual tension. The book was from both of their points of view and it was really easy to follow. The tension between Shahara and Syn was amazing. She was afraid of men because of something that had happened to her and he didn't trust them because of his past. But in end they both learned to trust one another and really gained the understanding of love. Sherrilyn Kenyon brought her characters to life - and you really couldn't help but feel for them or even relate to them. We all have pasts that sometimes we would like to change but we can't. And I know a lot of people out there have been judged because of their pasts by others, which really isn't fair at all. The storyline was two people getting to know each other and really seeing the other person for who they really were. With the past all tied up, things just fell into place at the end of the story. It made for a really good read! I highly recommend this series!
This is my first S.K. Book. I am now her fan! Great story telling, compelling, great detail. I was into this book on the first chapter. Kind of sci-fi-ish not the usual for me but it had so little in it that it was more abt characters than location so it was easy to get into. I enjoyed it and read it in 2 nites. Fast, good read.
Probably the best in t...
Probably the best in the series, Born of Fire kept me interested from the beginning to the end. The characters are compelling (if somewhat typical for Kenyon), and the pacing of the various plot points was quite well done. Be mindful of this series, however, if discussion of sexual assault is triggery for you. Like a great number of Kenyon's characters, both the hero and the heroine of this story have been attacked, and they work through the start of the healing process together. One of the main reasons that I like this book so much is that Kenyon manages to handle the aftermath of sexual assault with a degree of realism - Shahara is still afraid of men years on. This is a Romance novel, however, so I wasn't shocked when Shahara magically was cured of her phobia once she got her some good ol' lovin'. But eh. I could (and have) read much worse. Overall, four stars. I've read it twice now, and I'm sure I'll read it again.
