Over the years I have had several paper shredders. This one was the same as all of the others - bad. I'm sorry, but if you want a great paper shredder, this is not the answer. This shredder is essentially a trash bin within a trash bin. It is a huge mess when your shredder is full. For all shredders, it is common knowledge for every 3 minutes you shred, let the shredder cool down or you will burn out the motor. Also, when it says 10 sheets, I would recommend six at the most. I kept with this motto, but this shredder still stopped after one month. I unscrewed everything and found that the motor burned out even though I kept with the recommended routine. On a bright note, Walmart refunded my money and let me buy another shredder. I have had the Black and Decker Microcut 6 six paper shredder for 3 months and it is much better, only costing about $10 more. Again though, instead of six, I would do about 3 at a time. I would recommend the microcut shredder from Walmart, but not this one.

Got this shredder on sale Black Friday. The savings was great! This is a great shredder for the price! Works very well. Love the seperate bins. One for paper and the other for CD/DVD's. Cross cut shredding prevents jamming, a common problem with strip cut shredders. Fairly quiet, runs smoothly and quickly. Like the fact that the shredder keeps running for a few seconds after your item is shredded. This helps clean out the blades of any excess material. Built better than those from companies like Aurora and Royal. Hope it will last a long time. Seems sturdy and well built. The plastic bins are a soft flexable plastic. So it shouldn't crack easily like the rigid hard plastic that others use. This shredder is probably the best value around. Unless you're willing to shell out the dough for one of Fellowes' high-end shredders. Which are over priced and over rated!

High quality shredder

I haven't owned a shredder in quite a while, but I decided it was time to get one. Over the last couple of years shredders have become cheaper with more features, such as cross-shredding, and the capability to shred CDs, Credit Cards, etc. This Black & Decker model has all of this, as well as a 10-sheet shredding capacity. It has worked very well, seems to be of high quality, and comes with a collector bin with a slide-out "drawer" for easy disposal of shredder waste. This model also has a separate slot for shredding CDs/DVDs, and Credit Cards. This slot has a plastic lid covering the opening. It also has a clip-on receptacle inside the collection bin, so that shredded CDs (etc) are kept separate from the paper waste. The machine has a switch that has 3 modes: auto, off, and reverse. I haven't had any problems and I enjoy using it very much.

Very effective product. I was hesitant at first because of the compact size. Now I am so glad that I purchased this particular shredder. It serves my needs and doesn't take up much space in my office. I would certainly recommend this shredder to anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money for a home office shredder. Good value for the $$$$$!

We have a home business and have broken several shredders. I have yet to slow this thing down. It is great for a residential product and stands up to my excessive shredding.

  • A. It shreds really good because it does the crosscut. I remove the CD shred bin. It's only needed if you recycle CD materials. I shred credit cards in the same slot as the paper. The CD shred slot does not crosscut.

  • A. There is no warm up time for this shredder. You can plug it in and start shredding. However, after a given period of continuous shredding, it will need time to cool down. This is a safety feature to avoid over-heating the motor.
