I was skeptical of the reviews for this futon because so many of them were written by Walmart employees. However, we are happy with it. I'd probably give it a 4.5 if I could, but with only a 4 or 5 as an option, I'll have to go 5 based primarily on value. THE GOOD: It is not super high quality, but it is certainly worth the price As other's have noted, the fabric is not as dark as the picture, which we like. It is almost an oatmeal gray, and there is variation in the threads - some are darker, some are more of a cream color. This variation adds depth and bumps up the visual quality. It is very well made, very heavy. UPS in our neighborhood is horrifyingly bad, and they handled this package just as bad as anything else we've gotten (we have about a 50% damage rate for stuff delivered by UPS), but this thing is a beast and survived just fine. Probably the biggest win is that it looks great. It is compact in size, good for small places, and looks like it cost much more than it did. THE BAD: The arms simply connect with bolts at the bottom, so if you lean against the arms or put pressure on them, they give a bit and bow out to the side. One of our arms didn't screw in as well as the other to begin with, so it is already starting at an angle, and now even the slightly pressure makes it bend even more. I imagine this will get worse with time. We plan to use this a bed for guests, and unfortunately it doesn't fit anyone much taller than 5'7". Also the dividers between the cushions create divots, which isn't the greatest for sleeping. We purchased a 3" foam topper to make it more comfortable, recommend doing this. You can't tuck a fitted sheet around the front half, not sure how we will deal with this yet, likely will need to make a customized fitted sheets with elastic straps or something. Also, when this is folded out, it is not the standard size of any mattress. Larger than a twin and smaller than a full, so we will have to cut the foam topper we purchased to fit (buying a full size and then cutting it to size will work) and again customize a fitted sheet. Lastly, the two seat cushions are sewn together, so when you sit the fabric pulls and stretches between the cushions. It looks kinda cheap when this happens, and my guess is that over time this seam will fail. No cushions are removable, everything is sewn together.
Bottom line: it looks great, it will work OK for sleeping but functions best as seating, and certainly worth the price. Would absolutely recommend.
