When I first bought this press, it was as a replacement for my Pampered Chef one, which was peeling the coating which I didn't want to get into my food. I selected this one because it is stainless steel and seemed nice and heavy, and had a self-cleaner when you reverse the press, one of my favorite features of an otherwise difficult-to-clean kitchen gadget. However, the first use disappointed me--the build and design of the press prevented me from getting most of the garlic through the press--it just got mashed in the chamber. I continued to use it, and having only used it several times, the press is now coming apart near the hinge on the cleaning side, making it further unable to pass garlic through the press; I put three cloves in the press, and got about 1/3 to 1/2 of the volume come out the other side--the mashing part simply does not press against the plate. Additionally, the rubber handles are slipping down off of the metal part. I am led to wonder how much cadmium is in the materials, because it is a very soft metal, and where the metal is breaking apart, it looks much like the cadmium--which would explain why it's breaking apart this way (how much is allowed in "stainless steel?"). All in all, I am extremely disappointed, and would return it if I still had the receipt.

Really Inferior, Defective Design

Ditto to the other reviews describing how the metal on the press/cleaning side actually bent, making the whole thing useless. I've had this now for 2 months, it broke about the 10th time I used it. First of all, it can't really be stainless steel because 1) steel of this thickness wouldn't bend when confronted with garlic cloves, and 2) they wouldn't coat stainless steel with chrome. I don't know what kind of poor quality, soft metal they used, but it is really inferior. Each half of the press looked like it was a solid, one piece component, yet the side that bent appears to be separating along some sort of seam. I think the chrome coating covered the seams and made it appear to be an indestructible solid piece. The old cheap garlic press I've had for nearly 40 years doesn't have the slightest bend or warp to it after all these years.

I purchase this press because it was stainless steel, however, it didn't last (4) months. It broke while trying to press garlic, not very durable, would never buy another or recommend it to anyone.

When I purchase a kitchen utensil that costs more than $12, I expect it to last more than a week. Literally, I used this less than seven times and it broke at the hinge. DO NOT purchase this tool - it is a disappointment. Note, about three years ago, I bought a KitchenAid garlic press, and it is still going strong! I paid a little more for it, but it is worth it.

This press does not squeeze the garlic enough. It should be a small matter to make the press squeeze the garlic completely. Other than for that, it's a fine design, but the space between the pressing plate and the hole plate make it unusable.

After 3 or 4 uses the self cleaner stopped lining up with holes, after cleaning I noticed a crack in the cleaning side casting. Continued use caused further separation and eventually became useless.

I got this Garlic Press hoping it would last a long time, it does work, you do have to peel the garlic prior pressing the garlic clove. It lasted about 2 months. I used it everyday... it might last longer for people that will not be using it everyday. I loved it but since the metal part looked like steel it's not it's plastic is why it broke, I liked the self cleaning too.

I've use this garlic press fairly often but definitely not any more frequently than the average family. I was looking for it the other day when I found it broken. The metal seems durable, but the press cracked. Before this, I love the ease of use and cleaning but I rated it low because it isn't durable.

I am taking this back to walmart for a refund. It looked like it was heavy duty but did not last through 3 uses. If it is 'stainless steel' then it is a very cheap grade. I miss my old one #had it 30+ years but it somehow got tossed out# wish I could find another like it.

It looks really nice but that's it. I expected it to be durable stainless steel but it is some kind of a plastic or something and I discovered that because it broke in two pieces after a week and probably 2 uses .. I am sorry but it is Not a good product.
