This set is such a great value. Works out to only $4 each. In the store, the only ones you can get for $4 is the small ones. They are all larger than they appear. You can fit a large bag of chocolate chips in the small container. It holds about 2 full cups. The medium one will hold a club size spice mix which is 4 1/2 cups or a box of powdered sugar or brown sugar. The large will hold an entire 5lb bag of sugar or most of a bag of flour. It will also hold a 2lb bag of brown sugar. In my recommended items, see the rectangular size container. Along with the boxed set, those completed my pantry. The rectangular containers don't stack with the square containers except for those in the set. If you have narrow shelves, the square would be best. My shelves, pictured, are 16 inches deep and 11 1/2 inches high. I needed mine to be rectangular in order to fit on my shelves best , so these were the only other containers I needed. They hold a whole canister of oatmeal and a 3 lb (48oz) bag of roasted almonds. The stacking bins in my recommendations are holding potatoes and onions on the shelf.

The lid locks down on these when you close the handle on top. It just tightens up and seals. It's very easy to close the lid and know that it's closed. The drawback of the lid is that you can't overfill the container because the lid goes down in the container a little (you can see that in the picture). The larger sizes are great but I haven't found much use for the smaller ones; this seems to be an issue with any set of containers. I think the price could be better for the set but since I don't know what goes into making them that's just my uninformed opinion as a buyer. I gave the durability 4 stars because the container is rigid, not like Rubbermaid. You probably won't want to drop these, especially on tile. They do look nice in the cabinets but they don't store empty very well. I might buy the larger ones individually but for the price, I probably wouldn't buy another set unless I find a use for the smaller containers. I don't think this would be the first thing I'd recommend to a friend. I like the Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids better.

I wanted to organize my pantry. In particular I wanted a container large enough to hold flour for baking. There isn't a large enough size to hold a 5 lb bag of flour, and the largest size isn't sold separately. You have to buy the combo kit. Once I got it home I hand washed the pieces to get rid of any industrial debris and promptly found out that the lids get completely full of water, even without submerging them. Water gets trapped behind the seal and is extremely difficult to dry. I opened a 16 oz bag of lentils to put into the 16 oz storage container and found out that the container is 16 oz, but you can't put the lid on and close it unless it isn't full. So a 16 oz container will probably hold more like 12 oz...all sizes will hold less than what the volume is marked. I returned the set to the store. Great idea, love the look and the way they stack, but sizes are much too small and difficult to clean.

I absolutely love these storage containers! I couldn't wait to go back to Walmart and buy more. You can buy the boxed set or buy them individually. The containers that you can buy individually also come in a variety of sizes other than the boxed set sizes. They're lightweight but sturdy. I love the way the lid just easily pushes down and lets the air out and stays secure with a flip of the lid notch. I would eventually like to buy more when I have a little extra money. The clear parts of the storage containers are dishwasher safe, however, the lids are not recommended for the dishwasher because water could seep in somehow. I took my chances and put the lids and the rubber stopper belt "thing" (the piece that helps keep the air out) in the dishwasher (top rack) and they were fine. I just shook the water out and let dry overnight. I highly recommend these to anyone in need of clean and neat storage containers. One more benefit of these is that they can actually stack.

When I saw these on the shelf at Walmart, I thought,"What a great idea!" So bought them. We used them and they worked great. Then I discovered what others have mentioned about water getting inside the covers. That meant extra work; i.e., wash by hand, put the lid in a position to drain what little (I hoped) water got in it from washing and rinsing without submerging, and having to put the lid away sometime later than anything else washed by hand. After a year, I have now discovered that the largest container has cracks and a 3/4" triangular piece missing from one corner of the clear base. How did that happen? Neither one of us dropped the container? Did keeping leftovers in it in the refrigerator cause the plastic to be brittle and split from the pressure of the cover (lid) seal? Don't know. But I will not buy any more until they are improved. And that disappoints me because I love having the clear container that I can easily see into.

PERFECT FOR ARTHRITIC HANDS, and anyone whose husband and teens can't seem to close zip bags or standard containers. I do not think I have ever given anything 5 stars across the board but I adore these containers, and cannot get enough of them. I have been purchasing them individually at my local walmart for several months. No problems yet. They are so easy, stack very well, and are attractive, but definitely need more sizes (like for spaghetti)

I was worried that my food would not stay fresh and would have that stale weird taste that plastic containers will leave. I was thrilled with the difference. The looks were very pleasing and handled my non-organized fiasco with no problem. Lids are easy to handle and work with, just wish they came in more colors. (red). The only reserve I have is that they crack easily, so try not to drop them. Overall I may have spent two hundred dollars or more, but it's worth every penny to keep the field mice out of my food and give me of mind with such a great look. My kitchen looks organized and expensive now.

They were pretty, stacked well and sealed up fairly well. All was fine until you try to wash them. Water gets in the lid and it takes days for it to dry. If you don't wait days, whatever you put in the container will be damp the next time you open it. Very disappointed.

Hubby and I bought this set at our local Walmart yesterday. They had a display model of one of the containers on the shelf, and I thought 'Wow, what a cool container.' We got them home and I hand washed them. Then I dried them. Then I dried them. Then I dried them. Get the picture? I took the rubber seal belts off and tried to shake the water out of the lids. I shook and I shook and I shook. Then I wrestled and wrestled and wrestled the belt seal back onto the lids. I did not pay to wrestle with these things. They look great, they are made of durable plastic, but those lids need a redesign! I won't be keeping food items in them, as I'm afraid of what will happen if I can't get the container's completely dry. Wiping down would be an option, but not in a container that stores a food item, not for me. I'm sure I'll find something to store in them, but I am very disappointed in this product.

I'm very pleased with these flip-tites! I've also bought several of the individual pieces. I originally bought these to keep food fresh & dry in our rv, but liked them so much I went back for more to put in the house! Definitely don't submerge the lids in water. A simple soapy water wipe down followed up by a shot of hot water to rinse does a good job and doesn't get much water inside (if any). If you do get water in it, the lids need to drain on their side for the water to run out (states that in the care directions). As mentioned by others, the size of the container given is pretty worthless since it's measured empty & without the lid on (and the lid sits inside, taking up space). All in all... does what I need it to do, best product for the price I've seen, love that they stack and that they have nice clean lines.

Is it possible to get the 2 square 16-oz. containers with lids alone? I bought the set and really like this product but would love to have more of the smaller boxes. Is it possible to get the smaller ones alone? In store also when I checked only the bigger ones are available separately.

    • A. My Walmart sells a variety of sizes separately as well as the boxed set. You may want to contact your Walmart and ask if they can get them. They range in price from about $3.50 up to $8 (ballpark) for the individual containers.

In the picture on the box, it looks like the bottom of the lid takes up quite a bit of space in the container. Is the volume listed for each container the volume of the container itself, or the amount it will hold with the lid on?
    by bubblzfunkadelic 4/4/2011

    • A. There's a reason your lentils won't fit. Those are sold by weight - 16 oz. = 1 lb. This set is measured by volume. 16 oz.=2 cups Pretty sure your 1 lb. of lentils is more than 2 cups. The set isn't wrong - you are.

    • A. The ounces and liters measurements given were not very helpful for me either. The lid takes up about a 1/4" to a 1/2" but it will pack down what is in the container for an airtight seal. Besides the set of 4, I purchased several individual containers. The 5"x5" container will fit a bag of coffee but it is a tight squeeze for a 16 ounces of oatmeal. The 5"x7" and 5"x9" containers will definitely hold over a pound of any kind of dry food.

    • A. That may be the only con to these! You can't fill them up because the lid does go into them a little ways but to me personally, the rest of the pro's make up for it. It hasn't been too much of an issues for me. I have about 9 of these and plan on getting more.

    • A. The volume listed is a LIQUID volume so they won't hold as much as the volume suggests. 1 Cup of water is slightly different than 1 Cup of flour. Some of the packaging gives you an idea of what will fit inside, but unfortunately that info isn't listed on the website. You'll need to purchase a slightly larger size for solid foods.
