Best air rifle available! HANDS DOWN
When I say best air rifle ever I consider a LOT of things. I must mention that I have a great amount of experience in air guns and compete in field target competitions as well. The Benjamin Discovery is an air rifle that allows shooters to get a real performer of a PCP air rifle for a small initial investment. There really are no other PCP air rifles like that currently. If you are used to shooting spring powered rifles be assured that this gun will blow your socks off! PCP is like going from a flea market VCR player to a playstation 3 blueray! The nasty recoil and twang of those spring guns throwing your shot off target is ALL GONE! No more springer hold sensitivity or replacing scopes either! The accuracy of the Discovery is phenomenal, mine is chambered in .22 and I can print 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards on a calm day. If you do not scope this rifle you are making a huge mistake that I would compare to choosing to run a v8 on only two cylinders. The power in the discovery is equally excellent, in .22 the gun can put out 20 foot/pounds energy which will easily take care of any pests (I know from experience) up to and definitely including raccoon! I mentioned that I shoot field target matches, well I shot my discovery against someone who has competed in nationals and the worlds before. He sported a $1300 air rifle with a $1000 scope on it and I tied him with my stock discovery and an $80 scope. If that doesn't say anything I don't know what does. At 50 yards a COMPETENT shooter can get half inch groups. The gun has a lower fill pressure than most all other pcp guns which allows the user to very easily pump it to it's max pressure of 2K psi. The first time pumping will take a while to get to 2k psi but once there you should only shoot down to 1K and then fill back up. Below 1K shots are going to be falling off target fast and hard. You will get 20+ good, powerful and consistent shots this way. The walnut stock on the discovery leaves something to be desired as mine was not very well finished and felt quite rough, this actually got way better with handling time and subsided. The discovery is not a quiet gun in the least, it sports a sharp crack when fired in stock form but there are after market options to effectively fix that. The dual fuel option is just awesome and affords the user the capability to fill the gun with either HPA or cO2, with cO2 you will get more shots but sacrifice some power. Be advised however, cO2 doesn't perform very well in cold weather conditions. Also be advised that over pumping this gun will NOT benefit you in any way and will in fact actually lock the guns valve shut.

Great first pcp

To add to the other reviews. Yes most of these rifles do leak. Completely de gas the gun and unscrew the pressure gauge, add Teflon tape and screw it back in. That takes care of the problem on most of them. Some need the same treatment on the fill valve. Two drops of 100% silicone oil in the fill valve fixes most of them too. Once in a while a spec of dust in the gun's valve can be cleared by pumping it up and shooting the rifle without a pellet, about 5-10 times. The trigger can be greatly improved with two small screws. Check on YouTube for instructions. Look up Discovery trigger mods. Accuracy, this rifle can shoot 1" groups out of the box. However it depends on the pellet. My groups open up to horrible when shooting sub 7 grain pellets. My best accuracy has been with the Crossman Brown Box 10.5 grain pellets. I have two of these in .177. One shoots these pellets at up to 980 fps, the other at 950 fps. That is over 19 fpe from shot one to shot 25 out of either rifle. The pump is a very good pump. However if you pump too fast it will get hot and ruin your seals. Pump at about one stroke per second and it will last a long long time. I put a cover on my connectors to keep dust out. Dust in a PCP will cause problems in both the pump and guns. If it is very humid where you live consider filling from a tank. Moisture is hard on PCP guns. Clean dry air is the secret to PCP shooting. Get a good scope. These rifles are very accurate. Take advantage of this and get a good scope. A 40mm on high rings will clear the rear sight. A 3-9X40 or better mil dot AO scope that will focus down to 10 yards or less is ideal. Noise. These guns are not as quiet as a CO2 rifle. With light pellets you will get a crack because the pellet is breaking the sound barrier. Still the pop from the air expanding at the muzzle is loud. TKO makes a moderator if you want or need to quiet this down. Yes the do make an improved version of this rifle. It has a better trigger and is a repeater. It is called the Marauder. $500+. Without a pump. It also pumps up to 3000 lbs, so you won't want to hand pump it.

very good

This Benjamin Discovery .177 is far superior to the spring powered air guns that are dominating the market. It's far more accurate and still has enough power. In addition the pumping up of the rifle gives you a mini-workout to keep you in shape. I wish the Discovery had some better quality to it as it is built on the cheap. The trigger pull is bad but still gets the job done. I would like to see a higher end model, possibly a repeater yet still in the 2,000psi range. Yet as is it is one of the best options available in that price range, pump included.

1. The Benjamin Discovery .177 PCP Air Rifle does not have rails for mounting a scope.

2. Most certainly, there are grooves cut into the top of the action/receiver that will accept scope mounts. Check it out on Amazon and take a close up look at the picture. I have one on order and will be putting a scope on it upon arrival.

1. One year. Save your receipt. However most people void their warranty in a few weeks improving the trigger. This is very easy to do with the addition of 2 screws. Most of these guns do leak, but it really isn't a problem if you have a tank to fill the gun. The gun will not fill from empty with a hand pump. It needs some pressure in it to close the check valve. After you fill from a tank, you will only use the hand pump when your tank is empty. But you will want a hand pump to take to save filling your tank so often, as these are a really fun gun and cheap to shoot. You will want a good 3-9 or 12 X scope. Probably a 40mm. Mil dot. 50 yard 1" groups or better are in the capability of this rifle.

1. Crossman isn't answering the question because it will depend on the pellet. With a light weight alloy pellet it will shoot over 1200 fps and you won't be able to hit a pop can at 30'. I am getting up to 980 fps on Crossman Brown Box 10.5 grain pellets. These give me a hard hitting, over 19 fpe , flat shooting, accurate pellet for small game hunting out to 50 yards. This is not a quiet airgun, but you can cut the noise with a TKO moderator. Lots of mods available for these guns. At this price you will love it. Enough power for squirrels , jack rabbits, rats, etc. Cheap to shoot and I get 25-30 shots over 880 fps on a fill. Most of these leak at least a little. I have 3 Discovery rifles. All leak. All will hold air long enough for a day of hunting. Do get a tank for filling as they can not be filled with the hand pump if empty. I haven't ran any of my rifles on CO2, but you should get more shots when using CO2 and only a little less velocity. It gets too hot in AZ for CO2, so I just use air. At 2000 psi these aren't too bad hand pumping. After you start shooting PCP you may not shoot your springers or pump rifles anymore. Trigger mods are easy and greatly improve the trigger. Accuracy is very good with the right pellet. The .177 is shooting as fast as the best Air rifles so is flat shooting. Years ago I took a coyote with a .177 , 800 fps springer, this rifle is more powerful and more accurate, I know it can do it too.
