The BLACK+DECKER LGC120 is ideal for cultivating garden beds, landscape beds, and weeding, the Black & Decker LGC120 cordless garden cultivator/tiller easily breaks up soil to allow water and nutrients to reach plant roots. It's also great for prepping dry spots in lawn for seeding plus existing beds for planting. The two long tines are small enough to maneuver in between plants and counter-oscillating tines prevent weeds from tangling. The telescoping shaft adjusts for the perfect length, allowing you to operate it standing up without bending over. This upright design combined with the comfortable grips and an adjustable auxiliary handle means that you can work longer without over-taxing muscles and joints. This cultivator is powered by a 20-volt MAX lithium-ion battery that offers a longer lifespan and retains its charge 5x longer than similar 18-volt NiCad batteries--and you won't be limited by an extension cord. It's compatible with the full line of Black & Decker's 20-volt MAX line of power and gardening tools. You'll be able to cultivate up to 325 square feet per charge. The battery is also designed with 50 percent less battery weight, and the unit weighs a total of 8.1 pounds with battery installed.

Couldn't cultivate a wet paper bag!

My girlfriend is GREEN and doesn't like gas powered lawn equipment and hates corded electrical equipment so after a LOT of research I went ahead and purchased this cultivator because our plants needed to get into the ground ASAP. Shipping was excellent! Fast order and fast shipping! Got here in 2 days! Put it together, charged the battery and started it up. Seemed to work fine. Tested it on some soft dirt and... click click click noise... Tried it again... click click click noise... Reached down and scooped up a handful of dirt with no effort. Let it run for a second and tried it one last time... Then it just stopped as soon as the blades touched the dirt. Returned it to a Walmart store and to my surprise they took it back! The thing is I know B&D make good electrical motors! I have a B&D battery powered hand saw that can cut through a brick! I might just take the head off our garden claw and rig it to the saw, but as for this thing... Pay the extra $100 and get a real garden tool. Shopping experience was the only good thing about this transaction.

    Great for mixing in compost!

I started with ground that had been broken up a bit with a shovel first as this isn't strong enough to break up hard-packed ground but once I had big chunks of dirt to work with the cultivator did a very good job, especially in an irregularly shaped area which would be difficult to cover well with a more traditional rotating-tine rototiller.

Works ok for already loose ground, to refine it.

Was excited to get this, as it sounded perfect for my raised beds. The soil is loose & it worked ok, but if the soil is too damp, the tines clog up easily. They also get clogged in weeds, and grass, which is one of things I wanted it for in the beds. The tines are short, would like to see 6 inch. The battery is running down pretty quickly after the first use. Don't understand that. I'm not sorry I bought it, as it was reasonable. Figure that's probably why it doesn't live up to the ad. I will use in for light work. It does save me from bending and getting on my knees. I am a 64 yr old woman with arthritis. It is light and easy to use.

    Does the job well

I was expecting less from the cultivator based on other reviews, but have been pleasantly surprised. It does a great job, even in drier areas. I especially like the precision when working around delicate plants. The battery takes a long time to charge, and does not last for a long time, but this is understandable.

    B and D Cultivator

I can't get the screw on the handle to screw into the second half, therefore, the handle will not tighten to the shank. I'm trying to find someone who can get the screw to thread on through and tighten. Until I do, I can't use the machine. I feel sure I could give the machine a good rating if I can get the part to go through and tighten the handle.
