What took me so long?
I've had the August smart locks for a couple years. They totally for the need of HomeKit enabled while keeping the aesthetics of my HOAs “external hardware” policy. Well, I found out recently that there wasn't really a policy, and I decided, without question, to stay with August. And I couldn't be happier with the keypad!! Reliable, well made product. And now I don't have to have guests create profiles - I can just give them a code. Easy to install which was nice to see. Gives you exact drill but size, foam pad to keep it tight - EASY TO INSTALL!! turn it on - then sync with the August app I already use, Bada bing bada boom!!
Excellent addition
I have had the August dead bolt for lock for over a year now and have had some issues with the lock not unlocking when i came home. I reset the parameters in hopes that the lock would automatically unlock but it only worked about 50 percent if the time. So i ordered the key pad and it came in. It was very simple to install and very easy to program. No more juggling with my keys and getting mad. Just that simple, punch in my code and voila, I'm in. Thank you for reading. I'll still recommend this ti all of my friends because it is awesome.

almost great
works just fine. not sure why they put a logo as the enter button because it's not an intuitive design. When I want to tell people the code, instead of just giving them their code, I also have to include a little line about pressing the button with a red dot logo on it after inputting the code. If it said enter, then my guests wouldn't need the extra instruction. Just a little annoyance, but otherwise very nice.
The keys are soft to the touch, the keypad is of a minimal size, and it attaches well to the frame of the door.
Great unit, with one little complaint…
Great unit, with one little complaint… The August keypad appears to work perfectly, It was fairly easy to set up. My only complaint is the key layout. Calculator keypads, cell phone keypads, and computer keyboard number pads are all designed with three columns and four rows, Yet, for some reason, August decided to design their keypad with just TWO columns! Of course it's not a dealbreaker, but it's more annoying than I would've thought!!!
Durability, battery, theft not the best
The battery life is not great. They need to work on extending this. Additionally while the buttons feel good, you can tell that the rubber is too thin and likely will not stand up to long term, regular usage. Though the mounting is convenient for all the battery changing you'll be doing, it's not secure at all. Someone with a child's strength will be grabbing this and leaving/throwing it in a bush. Make sure to have it in view of a security camera.
When it works, it works.
I bought this solely the keypad feature will make it convenient when I don't have my phone on me and don't want to use the keys. But it is a hit-or-miss. Everytime I use this keypad, I have to pray for it to actually work. Sometimes it works, sometimes it won't respond, and sometimes it will take a whole 30 seconds for it to respond.
Good idea but...
Disclaimer, imma tech guy...I like the idea of the keypad but it falls short of an outdoor device. I have smart locks and was looking for a way to get in without always pulling out my phone or even dealing with auto open which doesn't always work. I was excited to learn about the product and bought it right away. I got and installed it. The device has lots of issues with installation i had to call customer service back to back cause i wanted to move the keypad from one lock over to another and it got stuck in a mode and wouldn't work. Anyhow we finally got it to work and then the next problem began. We live in NY where the weather is cold, so the battery dies right away. I called customer service and they said take out one of the batteries and put it back, tried it and that worked for a few hours, it died again. Bought new batteries and seem to work again but died. I know Lithium batteries don't do well in high heat or very cold weather and wondered why a company so big on security would make such a fickle product? No weather covering and no electric option like the August Door bell. As I mentioned above imma tech guy and love the idea of this product I'm just gonna be patient and wait for August to improve it a bit more. Dear August engineers, provide a weather prove cover that still exposes the buttons. Women with baby in hand and bags cant always dig in their pocket books for phone to unlock smart locks... when it's raining you have to expose your phone to rain to unlock the doors. This keypad is cool so pls improve it. Don't just say why not set your locks to away and home mode to auto open, have that and it doesn't work all the time. I'm standing there with the notification that says welcome home your door is unlocked and I can't open the door cause it isn't unlocked. If my son uses his phone till it dies and can't unlock door this product is great for that. I'm not one to bash products cause i work in the tech world, so my tolerance level is a lot more relaxed then a regular user. So i guess I'm good with this now and patiently await an improvement to this product. Great idea though.
