    Nice Shortcut for busy cook

I used to be able to buy dehydrated potatoes at a local bulk food store, but they stopped carrying them. After shopping around on line, I found these with free shipping. 10 lbs. is a lot of potatoes, but the other places I found them in smaller quantities were almost the same price as these, plus shipping. Once opened they are supposed to keep for a year, but to help keep them fresh, I repacked some in 2 gallon storage bags to put back in pail. Pail seals back up pretty well, so I am fairly confident that these should keep OK. I have used them once so far and they are good. They are great for putting a meal together at the last minute.

    Contains Sodium Bisulfite

I just received my Augason farms potato slices. They arrived direct from the manufacture packaged in a cardboard box designed for the bucket. Mine arrived in good condition no dents in the bucket like others have reported, I live at sea level too. The bucket and lid are made from HDPE 2. The shelf life is 25 years unopened and 1 year once opened. I purchased these believing the only ingredient to be potato but unfortunately they also contain sodium bisulfite which I am allergic to. If the sodium bisulfite isn't an issue for you then I would rate them 5 stars.

    4 meals all a diaster

2 batches of pan fried potatoes 1 au gratin 1 batch of potato salad in all i hydrated the potatoes with boiling water in excess of 6 to 8 hours potatoes never became soft but stayed crunchy, and i cannot return the potatoes to sams because there was no invoice in the box, i will try one last thing a crock pot stew slow cooked for 8 hours and if the potatoes do not become soft i give up in frustration,oh last thing i could open the container my husband to do it, 2 times, then to get back in i had to leave top on just resting it not snapped in place

I have purchased and used many Augason Farms products without disappointment..they are great. This price is nuts!!! There is a cookbook by Peg Layton on cooking these potatoes with alot of good ideas (and outcomes!) Its worth the meager price. We have purchased a couple of these buckets. If you go to AF's web site they also have recipes available and note the higher price, they say it's because Sams buys large lots that they can offer such a low price.

The sulfites used to help preserve these potatoes really throws off the flavor. The health fears from eating a lot of sulfites is a concern too. I had planned to eat these daily, following a potato diet regime, but given the amount of preservatives these clearly have in them, I don't think that's a good idea. They need at least an hour or so to rehydrate properly as well.
