    • A. The shelf life should be based on the pouches not the bucket. In general for food storage, the bucket is used to protect from outside sources; bugs, mice, direct sunlight, etc. The pouches if they are unopened and sealed properly will provide the long shelf life. Once the pouch is opened that is when you have lost your long shelf life and will have 1 yr or less depending on the product.

    • A. The stuff in it tastes better & is more fun than any of the other emergency food buckets I've tried, & I've tried all of them. And price is right for all you get. Beware though this is not freeze dried food, it's dehydrated. Freeze dried foods are soft & brittle as crackers, & cook up fast. Dehydrated food is hard as rocks, so except for the milk & oatmeal, they require long cooking times in boiling water. Will you have enough fuel to boil a pan of water 20 minutes for every meal in an emergency?

Was going to order two but after reading reviews of people opening the container and not finding individual servings of foods I ordered one and was glad I did. Upon receiving I opened and alot of the packages had holes in them (although dated recently) allowing product to spill into bucket. There were 4 one gallon mylar bags with product ( one of which had a hole) and the rest were in quart bags ( one empty and some with holes) and not as strong as you could buy from the regular store. Am in the process of dividing them up and putting them into my short term food storage using a seal-a-meal and oxy obsorbers but will buy another brand for 25 year storage that I can cache away from home after I check it.

I bought this as a grab'n'go food solution, when needed. It's best used for that. Otherwise, get more prepared than this. Get the non-hybrid seeds, which already went up >25% in the past month or so, due to obvious high inflation of food, that we hear nothing about! Grow your own veggies and harvest these seeds too. Augason Farms has good products, always fresh, well packaged and reliable! Get some hard red, and white wheat, salt, honey powder or sugar, rice, beans and oats all for around $100,( well it was a month ago anyway) and you've got a real good start on your emergency food supply. Then just start adding canned meats on sale (cans last LONGER than the date stamped, as long as the tin isn't bulging, your fine) or can your own! Get 5-6 chickens if you can too! Plant a fruit tree or two-- for your weather, remember apple trees need pollination, so buy 2 of the appropriate types (just ask the person selling them). Plant blueberries, raspberries and rhubarb which grow like weeds once established. Sweet potatoes, you can eat their greens, (NOT WHITE potatoes) and you'll be all set, oh, and find water too. If your water source is contaminated, get a Berkey water filter, biggest you can afford, it removes everything bad! God Bless and good luck! And remember, if you can't help yourself, you can't help anyone else!

I was so excited to find this bucket and when I read the label that said 38 individual pouches I thought awesome finally emergency food in portions for ONE. NOT TRUE, I opened the bucket there were 21 pouches for a family of 4. They need to update their pictures or I was sent the wrong bucket. So I went and bought mountain house individual pouches and paid alot more to get what I needed. They dont seem to make emergency food buckets for ONE.

I've been buying a few of these for an emergency. I figured I'd better try the selections out to make sure everyone would eat it should we need to use it. The food tasted good, everyone gave the thumbs up . The stuff lasts for 20 years or so, why wouldn't you have a few 'just in case' ?

Great product for earthquake/disaster supply kit
    5/27/2014

This product looked very appealing to me because of the 25 year shelf life. I'm going to pick one up for the family emergency preparedness kit next month to help with family nutrition needs. I might actually buy 2. The only thing I don't like about this is that all of the meals require one of the most important essentials in an emergency supply kit: WATER. But that is no biggie. Since it's just me and the wife I will also pick up 4 - 7 gallon water jugs and that should be adequate for our needs for about 2 weeks. If there is a major earthquake risk where you live, you want to be prepared with at least 1 gallon of water per person per day with food and water supplies that can last for up too 2 weeks in case supply lines are cut off.
