I have purchased these over a few years and now these things are hard to find. With the virus you can't find them or there's price gouging which is shameful. I picked this up just to have but have ample amount to feed my family for at least a yr and a half. Always have been about being better safe than sorry. I will always recommend having items like this.

Great price but
I was so excited to find this bucket and when I read the label that said 38 individual pouches I thought awesome finally emergency food in portions for ONE. NOT TRUE, I opened the bucket there were 21 pouches for a family of 4. They need to update their pictures or I was sent the wrong bucket. So I went and bought mountain house individual pouches and paid alot more to get what I needed. They dont seem to make emergency food buckets for ONE.

Great for an emergency - food tastes good

I've been buying a few of these for an emergency. I figured I'd better try the selections out to make sure everyone would eat it should we need to use it. The food tasted good, everyone gave the thumbs up . The stuff lasts for 20 years or so, why wouldn't you have a few 'just in case' ?

Really tasty and economical.

We bought two of these and tried one to see if it was something that we would like. I have to say that I am really impressed at how delicious and satisfying it is. The beef flavored meat substitute really tastes like the real thing. You can't beat the price either. We don't have to worry anymore like a few years ago when we lost power for two weeks. There is an included meal plan that makes it even more simple. I recommend this item for either an emergency or even as a day to day meal source.

Emergency Ready

We are not big time Preppers such as seen on TV but do have the satisfaction of maintaining a good supply of shelf stable foods in case of an emergency. Whether it be due to a storm or an economic crisis the Augason Farms 12-Day Emergency Food Pail helps to give a feeling of preparedness. Ordering was very easy, arrived quicker than advertised and packaging was sturdy. Since this has not been opened, could rate at only 4 stars and give a 4 on the expectations, but the price is a Great Value! When compared to ordering directly from Augason Farms you save S&H, not to mention the price is lower! You can always count on Walmart.com for a fantastic deal! Definitely will order again.

Good Grab and Go Bucket

Great all around bucket for emergencies, camping, evacuations. Great price at Wal mart, cheaper than buying from Augason direct.

Not for individual or small family

Was going to order two but after reading reviews of people opening the container and not finding individual servings of foods I ordered one and was glad I did. Upon receiving I opened and alot of the packages had holes in them (although dated recently) allowing product to spill into bucket. There were 4 one gallon mylar bags with product ( one of which had a hole) and the rest were in quart bags ( one empty and some with holes) and not as strong as you could buy from the regular store. Am in the process of dividing them up and putting them into my short term food storage using a seal-a-meal and oxy obsorbers but will buy another brand for 25 year storage that I can cache away from home after I check it.

1. Yes. They are truly emergency foods as I don't think most people would eat them otherwise.
by TheWiseOleGeezer
2. Most everything is tasty and easy to use. Some cans of dried fruit and vegetables are not full. They are sold by weight, not volume. The amount in a gallon can could easily fit in a much smaller can.
by ManoftheDesert
3. It is not like fresh food, but it taste o.k. and will keep you alive. What else do you want in an emergency situation.
by chamuiel
4. They're not bad, in an emergency, these would be great. Throw some hard candy in the bucket too , if you're at a place where you have to use this , a dessert would lift the spirits
by Redaction
5. I've tried the potato soup mix and the milk. Both were excellent. The potato soup had a strong smell like dried garlic and I really worried I wouldn't like it, but I followed the directions and I really like it. Need new can since I opened this one.
by wallycrazie
6. yes soup well hunting in snow! i would heat water it was good enough to keep me warm in my blind! the coffee can size of soup mix lasted more then the 2 weeks of hunting i had some left over!! normal soup was about 10-15 cans of soup i hunted every day! it was really cheaper!
by gatorred157
7. I bought it opened it but took it back the portions were very large for one.
by An anonymous customer
8. The stuff in it tastes better & is more fun than any of the other emergency food buckets I've tried, & I've tried all of them. And price is right for all you get. Beware though this is not freeze dried food, it's dehydrated. Freeze dried foods are soft & brittle as crackers, & cook up fast. Dehydrated food is hard as rocks, so except for the milk & oatmeal, they require long cooking times in boiling water. Will you have enough fuel to boil a pan of water 20 minutes for every meal in an emergency?

1. 1 year after the pouch is open otherwise 25 years if either the pouch or the container is open
by aMUSEinMO
2. I was told that its the pouches and not the pail.
by RydersGrandmama
3. Once the pail is opened the unopened pouches are good for 1 year.
by WyattJ
4. The individual Pouches are sealed with oxygen absorbers or nitrogen flushed. The contents of unopened pouches will last 25-30 years. Pail should be stored in a cool (75 degrees or below), dry, dark place.
by Natharon
5. The shelf life should be based on the pouches not the bucket. In general for food storage, the bucket is used to protect from outside sources; bugs, mice, direct sunlight, etc. The pouches if they are unopened and sealed properly will provide the long shelf life. Once the pouch is opened that is when you have lost your long shelf life and will have 1 yr or less depending on the product.
by 2012Viking
6. I was to understand that once opened the shelf life was 7 yrs.
by An anonymous customer
7. untill you open the pouches
by An anonymous customer
8. Looks like its 25 years for the entire pail if it stays sealed, once the pail seal is broken the contents are then good for a year.

1. Most meals need a cup of water per serving. As a result most meals are just flavored water. See my product review.
by TheWiseOleGeezer
2. For the milk alternative 1 cup per serving and the rest are same or less per serving. It is adviseable to have one to two gallons of water for each person per day in storage along with a water filter and purification setup to help.
by BroBeno
3. You need to store water too if you're prepping for an emergency.
by Redaction
4. It would take at least 2 cups per package. If you are looking for low or no water use meals, any dehydrated or freeze dried product is not what you want. All of these types of meals require a good amount of water to rehydrate the product. You may want to look at MRE's or emergency food bars, like Millennium Bars, if you are not wanting to rely on having an ample amount of water available. Every emergency situation is different. Unless my houses hot water heater is destroyed, I will have at least 50 gallons of usable water in an emergency. Thats plenty to make it through at least 72 hours.
by 2012Viking
5. I opened the bucket and it never said how much water was needed. There were 21 pouches not 38 like the label stated. I was very disappointed
by An anonymous customer
6. All are 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup per serving.
