Not just Atari
Can't wait to see the surprise titles that'll arise from an open platform; as well as play the classics on a modern-spec system, outperforming every other 'retro' offering.
An actual standardized *open* platform in your living room; a gaming PC at a fair price; with likely integration with Atari's other ventures. Should be a wild ride.
Haters will hate
I am glad to see that atari is coming back with a new console. Atari made a big impact on a alot of childhoods. I have seen a lot of hate towards this new system, but I am not letting that change my opinion of the system. I hope that this will lead into more systems being made by Atari.
Atari is Back Baby!
This game system is absolutely incredible. The UI is stunning, simple, smooth and very easy to navigate. I played a few of the Atari pre loaded games as well as played around in the sandbox playing Steam games. They are fun, simple, back to basics games that everyone can play! The controllers are very comfortable to hold and built with quality. The Atari engineers really knocked it out of the park and I think this machine will surprise a lot of people and prove a lot of the haters wrong!
VCS is back! Why at $389?
As a huge fan of the original VCS, I am hoping the new VCS create something different in the gaming world. I am just not sure why it is priced at $389.99 (as of 3/17/20). As of this date: the Switch (full version) is $299, PS4 Pro is $319 and the Xbox One X is priced at $299 (there are also cheaper versions of all of these consoles available). Just not sure what is justifying the high price tag.
THE GAMING EQUIVALENT OF THE FYRE FESTIVAL!!!
DO THE RESEARCH!!!! So far they have not shown any exclusive games running on this thing. The best they have shown so far was Fortnite which being honest can run on a mobile device. (And may of been on the demonstration for all we know). So far all they have shown is a nice looking Atari case and Joystick. I personally doubt this thing will ever see the light of day. BUYERS BEWARE!!!
I love atari but do your research. This is a low powered computer running Linux with some games in pc emulation. If you love old vcs games buy a flashback box. If you liked the 5200 buy one (or one of their 8 bit computers) on ebay.
Do yourself a favor, do some research.
Before putting down money on this, do yourself a favor and check out the tons of youtube videos on this product and it's history. To me it would appear you are just getting a low end pc or raspberry pie level pc for an expensive price because its inside a plastic atari shell. Don't trust me, do your own research on it. I can be wrong, but I certainly won't be on the chump list.
No Communication, No Faith
Atari has been very keen on neglecting to update VCS backers and skirting around critical issues such as losing key staff and not having games. As it is the VCS is likely to not have any games or apps at launch, rather depending on either waiting for developers to develop for it (which isn't going to happen) or using a Linux sandbox mode to custom load programs, which basically makes this a Linux hobbyist console with a $200 premium case. Please don't buy the Atari VCS.
