First off, the reviews that complain about this tool sticking must be an operator error issue. The 1st time I used it, it stuck on the 3rd potato I was cutting because it was off center. If you get the potato off center or if the potato is too large it jams up against the side and can't be pushed through. Don't force it or you will either break the tool or jam it so tight you will have difficulty getting it unstuck. You simply need to make certain the potato is small enough for the opening and well centered before cutting. After running my potatoes through the cutter I soak them in ice water for a couple of hours, drain and dry with paper towels. I toss them in peanut oil and then bake in a single layer on a baking sheet @ 450 till lightly browned and crispy, dust with sea salt and serve. Much healthier than deep frying and in my opinion so much yummier. :) I find this tool to be a great asset in my kitchen at an awesome price to boot. I intend to buy one for each one of married children as part of a gift basket for Christmas.

Not quite sure about the negative reviews here. This thing costs under $10... You put a potato in, press down and you have fries. How hard is that? It works. We have gone thru a few dozen potatoes at this point and it still works. In fact, the only reason I found this site was to refer it to a friend that wanted to get one after having fries at our house. Cut your fries. Soak them in water. Fry them for a few minutes. Pull em out. Pop em back in for a couple minutes and you have great, fresh fries.

I have owned at least 3 of these because there is a learning curve to its use. You HAVE to read the instructions--the first two I bought I didn't and paid the price. You should pop your potatoes in the microwave for a few seconds or par boil them--and THEN proceed with sending them thru the cutter. DON'T let them get too soft!!! You have to make sure that the blade portion is placed in the CORRECT end of the plastic housing. If you feel any resistance--STOP immediately because it will jam and will NOT come apart--pop the potato back into the microwave for a few. I love this thing.

After reading the negative reviews, I tried to understand their complaints. Sorry, just couldn't. I even tried to put it together incorrectly and see if that was a possible explanation, nope-can't put it together wrong without some serious trying. Won't work upside down either. It's muscle powered, you're forcing a hard object through a grid of blades. If you keep the diameter of the (potato) inside the box size, it works as advertised. For some people or some objects that are too hard the instructions state to pre cook. I spent more time cleaning it then cutting up 5 potatos!
