I love this! Be really careful - the lid does get hot. I used this at Christmas and it was great! My stove was busy preparing Christmas stuff and I was still able to have deviled eggs! The eggs peel really easily when boiled in this, too! I did 7 extra-large eggs using the measurement for 7 medium eggs. (That is the only measurement - medium eggs) They turned out perfectly, even though larger eggs were used. Make sure you tip the lid away from you, a lot of steam comes out. So glad I bought these 3 - 2 for gifts and 1 for me.

I think I bought this product too quickly because there are competitors out there who offer an additional feature at the same price. This product does not offer a poached egg device, like some others. But as far as boiling eggs, soft or hard or somewhere in between, this product works great.

I bought this egg cooker because my husband likes hardboiled eggs every morning for breakfast. It does a great job cooking the eggs in record time and I don't miss dragging out a saucepan and boiling the eggs. I like the fact that it has a buzzer that sounds when the eggs are done. It does not have an automatic shut-off feature which some might see as a negative, but I like that the buzzer sounds so that I'm alerted to go unplug it and cool the eggs. Otherwise I might totally forget about them and leave them sitting on the counter all day. The only thing I DON'T like is that you have to have an egg piercer in order to use the machine and an egg piercer does NOT come with it. I received the egg cooker and then realized (much to my dismay) that I had to have a piercer. Since I was unable to find one locally, I had to order one from Ebay and wait for that to arrive before I could use the appliance. That was a bummer! So if you buy this product be aware that it's wonderful, but you'd better buy your egg piercer ahead of time or it will be useless until you get one. Otherwise, I really love this thing!

Not the best option

This model is the first one I had. It does as fine a job cooking the eggs as any of the other available cookers and it is an attractive and space conservative option. The trouble is, there is a non-stick coating in the base that, on mine, began to flake off almost immediately. This made it hard to clean and it looked disgusting. After a few years, the plastic egg tray, which was fairly brittle to start with, started cracking and breaking and one day just disintegrated. The appliance is of no use without the tray. A few months ago, I purchased another model which I have also reviewed on this site. It costs a bit more than this one, however I feel it is well worth the extra. Also, this model does not have a poaching option which I find I use quite often on my new cooker.

  • A. Since there isn't enough water to even reach, let alone cover the eggs, I would have to say that the eggs are steamed, odd as that may sound. Note that the measurement of how much water to place in the bottom of the egg cooker is quite exact. I haven't tried to vary it to see if it matters that much.

what do you do with the egg piecer?

  • A. You pierce the egg on the top of the egg.

  • A. It is the needle at the bottom of the plastic measuring cup. The egg needs to be pierced so that it doesn't burst in the egg cooker. I have only over cracked one egg and I am not used to piercing each egg correctly but it is not as easy as throwing the eggs into water. The cooker just makes sure you don't over or under cook eggs but it is not necessarily easier to use (versus boiling the old fashion way)

  • A. You probably meant "piercer", which is to put a very small hole in top of egg with a small tack like tool so that egg deosn't crack during steaming process.

  • A. I found that fewer eggs crack if I DON'T use the egg piercer. It's supposed to be used to pierce the large end of the egg. Then place the large end of the egg at the top with the egg(s) in the cooking platform.
