Makes a perfect pot of rice and has a steam tray / basket I cook frozen vegetables with at the same time the rice is being done , rice cooks and vegetables cook fast. Remind me of a Japanese rice cooker you would see in Japan . Really clean and modern.

Should be a great product but it is not
Too hot! caused all water to boil out through the plastic water capture device. Burned all the rice even though I followed the directions for brown rice.

Works great, just too small for my family.

    Verified purchase

This is really nice if you only have the need of two or three at the most to serve. I need to return it because the steamer for veggies is quite small. I need to be able to steam more than allowed here. But for a couple or a single person, it is great!

Excellent. For the price, you can't go wrong!

    Verified purchase

This thing is almost as handy as a microwave oven. I had read reviews stating that it didn't cook rice properly, or burned the rice and made a mess, but I have nothing but good things to say about it. I did have it make a bit of a mess one time, but that was because I overfilled it. I have cooked a lot of Jasmine rice in it, as well as brown rice a few times. Rice was perfect every time. I cook 1 cup of rice at the time, with 1.5 cups of water. Cooks rice much faster than stovetop cooking. I haven't started experimenting with the steamer basket, but hope to soon. Overall, this is a great time saver, especially if you are only cooking for a couple of people.

Great for someone who always used "boil in a bag".

    Verified purchase

I have only used the "boil in a bag" quick rice before but now that I'm on a low fat diet, I thought I would try making "real" rice. Man, I'll NEVER go back. I didn't know rice could taste so GOOD. Not to mention that this cooker is easier than boiling the water, putting in the rice package and then watching/timing it so it doesn't boil over. All you have to do is put rice and water in then turn it on--yes, that simple! The hardest part for me is learning that's there's a LOT of different kinds of rice out there. The guide that comes with the cooker helps a lot. Right now, my favorite type rice is sushi (this from someone who hates the actual raw fish part of sushi). Jasmine is really good too, a hearty, heavier taste than regular long grain rice. Anyway, I'm so glad I got this (and my doctor will be too)!

Very simple to operate cooks perfectly

    Verified purchase

One single button to push! Nothing complicated about it. The rice cooks perfectly. When it's done cooking, it keeps it warm. I bought this one for my mom. She borrowed mine and loved it. I've had mine for a couple of years and it still works great. It works especially well for brown rice, which I usually have a hard time getting just right. I don't need to pre-soak it.

Wow... This is a great Rice cooker!!!

    Verified purchase

Makes Rice really well, follow the recommended proportions and get great results. If you want a little softer/wetter rice add just a little more water. When I make Risotto I use a little less water... cook the rice most of the way and then finish it is a sauce pan. I was dubious of the steamer function.. but that works great also...You can steam the more hearty vegetables while making rice... or just put water in it .. veggies ... turn it on.. check it in ten minutes or so. To top it all off it is really easy to clean also.. I really like that the cover is attached to the cooker instead of the glass covers most other rice cookers have. Stop the fooling around.. if you can use a mid-sized rice cooker..just get this one.. you can't go wrong.. and at the price that this costs.. it is a no- brainer

    Love this cooker.

    Verified purchase

Have had one of these cookers for 7 years now. My mother has always used instant rice. She thought it took all day to cook "real" rice as she put it. I told her about using this cooker and so she said she would like to try one. So I told her that I knew the best one for the price. So I got her this one, the same exact one I have been using for years now. A definite great buy. Make sure you clean it every time from the 1st time. It is hard to keep clean if you do not stay on top of it. That is advice on anything in your kitchen, not just your cooker.

    LOVE IT!

    Verified purchase

I cook in this all the time since I bought it. It makes great rice and brown rice cooks nicely too. The steamer basket is very handy, I can cook an entire meal. I add raw chicken tenders to the basket along with cut up green bell pepper and fresh green beans. Season with salt and pepper. Maybe add some Kim Chi too to the basket. Set it and forget it and about 20 minutes later you have a ready to eat meal!

    Nice rice-cooker, some design flaws

We have used the Aroma about ten times in 6 weeks. The basic small rice-maker is decent. The vegetable steaming tray is the biggest problem. The large holes let small veggies like peas and corn to fall through. It is very hard to remove when hot. It needs a bail (like a bucket) or at least some holes in the side to grab. With all the warnings about steam and burns on the Aroma making the steamer and rice pot more easily removable would seem logical. When the device goes to warm because the water is absorbed and/or vented, the rice is nice and tan and crisp on the bottom. It's not a bad thing but makes one wonder how long the Teflon can endure all the digging/scraping to get the rice out with the rice paddle. It must always be unplugged when not in use or it stays on warm. It should not be used under overhead cabinets otherwise the steam wets them pretty well. Removing and cleaning the little plastic condensate cup under the hinge is another annoyance. The Aroma must be used with rags and towels handy or burns will result. If it is used 80-90 times per year it might last one year with care.

    Not a bad rice cooker

    Verified purchase

This cooker looks nice, actually cute! It does what it is supposed to do, but the bottom of the rice is slightly burnt (brown, not black). I do not like the mechanical switch. When it is done cooking, the switch flips to the warm position with a fairly loud click, but mechanical switches are not very reliable. That reminds me with the sliced bread toasters which eventually fail to bounce and switch off when the bread slices are browned, and you begin to smell that distinctive smell of the burning bread. It's very much the same design concept. It would have been a lot better if it was silent electronic switching from one state to the other. I like the steamer tray that comes with it, although it is a very small size steamer. I never had a rice cooker before, so now I know better. My suggestion to potential buyers is to pick one with automatic electronic switching, and no mechanical switches (aside from a soft button to turn it on or off). Perhaps one with a digital display, although that's more expensive. This one is quite inexpensive, around $20. I also like the capacity (4 cups of raw rice, or 8 cups cooked). It fits my needs very well. Watch out advertisements carefully (not just on Walmart, but in general). Many of them advertise the "cooked" rice capacity. The raw rice capacity would be half the advertised cooked rice capacity. The best thing about the rice cooker is that I don't need to keep an eye on it, or to babysit the pot. I had forgotten the rice pot cooking on the stove a few times in my life, and ended up with a one inch layer of black rice at the bottom, if not even worse! No more black rice! This cooker, along with a Hamilton Beach slow cooker, was my first purchase ever at Walmart.com, or from Walmart in general. FedEx shipping was free and fast. Packaging was good. Items arrived in good physical condition.

    1. Yes, but not much more as it will need space for the steamer basket as the rice expands.

    4. Yes.. but it depends on the veggies you are steaming.. root veggies.. like carrots, potatoes, etc.. depending on size may not be completely cooked when the rice is done.. cut the veggies into smallish pieces and they should come out fine.

    4. I haven't tried it yet for that but I have used it to hard boil eggs and cook ramen noodles (2-3 cakes). If you don't use the steamer basket and open the lid to check water level before unit switches to "warm" mode you can probably adjust your recipe time to the function of the cooker.
