After owning one I have realized that basically all diaper pails are the same. So the best thing is to go with the cheapest one. All that a pail does is keeps the dirty diapers in a closed container for a long time and thus suppresses the smell. All the seemingly high-tech, odor eliminating technology talks are just plain nonsense. For example the pinch of backing soda that it spills inside the bag, every time you close the lid, or the self-sealing system, doesn't make any difference in eliminating the odor. The odor keeps out of your room simply because the smell stays inside the container. It will come out when you will open the lid. Ditto with Platex pail. Until these pails are actually made with a real odor eliminating technology, these pails are simply the same and serve the overall purpose. They merely look good in a room and are an alternative to having a grocery bag full of dirty diapers tied with rope. Functionally the latter method does the same job but doesn't look good.

I received the Munchkin diaper pail as a gift and couldn't be more pleased with it. I have a Diaper G Elite as well, but have found that I'm using the Munchkin Pail more for a few reasons: first off, the Munchkin Pail is easier to use. While the lid/foot pedal mechanism on the G frequently gets stuck and I have to manually open the claw and squish the diapers down, this has not been the case with the Munchkin Pail. The lid opens like a breeze and the diapers drop down (no squishing needed). The baking soda feature also keeps things fresh, but what I appreciate most is how simple it is to swap out bags once they are full. The G requires you to separate the pail in half, pull down on the bag (which also often gets stuck), and then cut and tie a knot to start a new bag. Swapping out the Munchkin Pail bags involves opening the door, pulling out the full bag and putting in a new one...no cutting or tying (and no stink from having an open bag). When registering, I'd choose the Munchkin Diaper Pail all day long.

I honestly don't know how this thing gets as many good reviews as it does. Capacity was less than expected, but it was acceptable. The real problem was the smell and the fact it broke in less than 6 months. It might work for a little while for newborns, but for babies 6 months old or older the baking soda just didn't absorb the odor to any noticeable degree. In fact, I thought the odor was worse as every time we opened even a half full pail to put in a new diaper we got a blast of stink. Adding insult to injury, beyond being fairly ineffective at containing the odor, the latch on the lid somehow broke to where the pail would no longer close properly. Unfortunately, this occured 5 months after purchase, so it could no longer be returned. Fortunately, my youngest is just about ready to start potty training, so I hope to avoid getting another pail of any brand...though if I did get another, it would not be Arm & Hammer's diaper pail. I much preferred the Diaper Genie II.

I cannot believe they are still selling this diaper pail when they have discontinued the refills! They have a new pail that they claim the bags will fit the old pail. I have tried these "new" bags. They do not work well at all. The easy toss and go aspect is completely gone. You now have to cut, tie, and hope you don't make a mess. I am so disappointed I wasted my money. Bring back the blue bags or stop selling this pail!

Great product, I used it when my daughter was a baby and wanted to use it again for my second child. After buying two pails I discovered that the product was discontinued and finding bag refills was nearly impossible. If I had known the product was discontinued I would have purchased another product.

I Love this diaper pail. It's so much better than any of the others I've tried over the years. My favorite part is how easy it is to load and then unload. When the container is full there is no cuttung or tieing the bags snap shut. The smell is finally under control. The bin holds a lot of diapers and has the baking soda in the lid which makes a big difference and I love that you dont have to buy a special baking soda refill, you just pour a little from any box you have. And the liner refills are CHEAP. LOVE THIS diaper pail.

Who would have thought someone could come up with an actual way to keep the dipaer smell out of the baby's room? These guys did it. The pail is sturdy, holds alot of diapers and there is no mess when you load or unload. The refills are CHEAP which is important because the diapers will go on for a long time. This is a must have diaper pail.

I have an incontinence problem and no way to dispose of the pads I used on a daily basis as I have trash pick up once a week. The odor was just awful. Then I thought if this works for baby diapers let me try it for my used pads. It works!!!! It holds a weeks worth of used pads and no odor at all!!! I keep it in my masterbath and empty once a week when the trash is picked up.

Would you be able to use regular garbage bags in this diaper pail instead of the costly liners?

    • A. You could probably rig something up, but you would lose the smell-keeping-in benefit of the pail. You can buy a 3 pack of liners on amazon.com (and I think walmart.com, too) pretty inexpensively. One liner lasts us almost 1 week.

    • A. I'm sure it could. I assume you are wanting to hold them in the nags until washing? I'd do it if I used cloth diapers. Put them into the bag, and since it can snap shut and still reopen you could put them into the washer and just toss the used bag. Or if you're a "Penny Saver" I'm sure you could rinse the bag out, let it dry, and use it 2 or 3 times.

    • A. It is intended to snap and close the bag for disposal, but since the diapers are collected loosely, as opposed to twisted into links with the Diaper Genie, I don't think you would have any trouble with that. I would guess that you could reuse the bag a few times, too.
