proposition 65 reasons:N/A
I ordered 10 cases of pints and they duly arrived with 1 jar shattered in each of two cases. Considering the handling and shipping, no complaints. I have been canning like mad because there may be a food shortage this fall, and maybe not. And I expect to be ordering more jars next month with the change that I will order 12 cases since these were delivered with 6 cases in one box and 4 in another. There may have been something about the way the boxes were handled that resulted in the breakage. occuring only in the smaller box. Nevertheless, 5 star, all the way.
Anchor Hocking Pint Canning Jars
These jars are great! I prefer them to the Ball jars. They fit well in the canner rack and are very sturdy. So far I have not had any breakage in the canners. The lids are a bit thick and take longer to seal than the flimsy Ball ones. I never have trouble with them sealing in the long run, but none of that satisfying pop. All in all, I think they are a great value and a good solid product,
Jars are great-not for canning!-packing was awful
First I want to inform anyone purchasing these "canning" jars that you can't use them for canning. They have an incredibly high failure rate of sealing. I knew that before I ordered these because of past experience. They are great, however, for storing honey and dry goods! Very well priced for these uses. Here's why I rated is 3 stars. I don't know WHO packed my jars at walmart - I have words to describe them but I will refrain - but they did probably the WORST job possible. This person must have been angry. Take a box TWICE as big as you would need, barely tape it together and then just THROW THE CASES OF JARS INTO IT. No packing, no nothing else. Then just sort of seal it up and toss it up on a belt somewhere to go out for delivery. Amazingly, only 2 jars were broken. I felt so badly for the FedEx driver that had to lift that one big HUGE box with 7 CASES OF JARS inside! How heavy and awkward! Walmart sent a separate box with only one case inside. (No packing in that one either, but at least the box size was more appropriate! In the future, I will put sets of two, separately, added my cart to see if that helps? Bottom line - these jars are great for the price for storing things.
Don't count on the included seals!!!
Lids will fail!
Bought these because they are smooth-sided jars. Never again! Out of 4 cases, every single lid (yes 48 lids) failed! I am now going to be up late tonight re-processing everything with other lids so I don't loose all my hard work to spoilage. I am an experienced canner (12+ years) so I know it was not an issue with my process. I did can other items today as well with Ball and Golden Harvest lids with no issues. If you buy these jars, use different lids!
The last few cases I've purchased the kids are over crimped, and the jar rims haven't been even causing the jars not to seal . I've lost more than a dozen jars , even after throwing out about 2 dozen lids . I'm making about a hundred jars of preserves a week, y'all's defective jars cost me $$ and time.
