About This Item
Welcome to Like Science! The alternative pop sound and style of Like Science is different due to sometimes unconventional methods to create memorable and meaningful music. 'We incorporate a lot of sounds that people have heard before, yet it's something entirely new and interesting,' says guitarist Jacob Winters. 'Our live show sets us apart because we're not only musicians. We're entertainers.' Winters and bassist Derek Cox bring this album to life through lots of experience and even more talent. Winters has been playing guitar and writing songs for nine years. His first studio recorded album 'Born and Raised in Aboite' was recorded in 2007 with Grammy nominee Jeff Anderson at Sound Logic Studios in Lafayette, Indiana. After doing multiple shows, Winters began work on putting together 'Jacob Winters and The Professionals' of which Cox was a part. Cox's depth of experience ranges from hardcore metal to oldies including seven recorded albums, two of which were self-mastered and produced. What about the name, Like Science? That's different for a band right? Analytical production by Winters and Cox led them through several potential names before capturing their perfect moniker. 'We looked at a lot of the biggest band names of all time and found that they were actually really bad names, but you think they're good because you associate their music with the name and that makes the name good,' commented Winters. Comedy troupe performance and previous acting experience help Cox bring a big personality onto the stage. Add the self-described 'loud and obnoxious,' yet very funny personality of Winters and the show is so much more than just a couple guys playing music. This willingness to experiment and stretch the boundaries of what everyone expects from a band adds depth and meaning to the message and music of the duo. The music is meant to convey a positive message and is sometimes a sheep in wolf's clothing. 'Party Nights' is a party song about not partying while 'Rain Keeps Fallin' is a really sad song with an encouraging message. 'Alchemy,' the debut album for Like Science, was recorded at Pendlwood Studios in Columbus, Ohio where other notable bands The Emberlight and A Life Echoed also recorded. 'At the end of the day, we like it, we're proud of it, and if other people like it too, that's great. We're both all about the music and all about writing music.'
